The chat room was locked way before the first 30 minutes was up. I tried to get in chat from 8:40 to 9:28 and kept receiving the same error message as the rest of you. Funnyface
I have posted on the other thread about this week's live chat but thought I would post on here as well to bring this thread back to the top, so this week's problem is not just seen as a one-off problem.
If that is the reason Ann to limit the number entering, why were we not told last night or last week that that was what was happening? Or indeed asked if we wanted the no to be limited at that point? There were times when it was a little confusing and there might be 2 conversations going on but nothing we couldn't cope with - amusing more than anything else. I certainly would have been quite happy for there to have been more people on.
I also did ask last week whether the people locked out could be given a suitable message indicating why they couldn't get in - don't think that has happened either. Is that not (at the very least) possible?
I am sorry that there were problems with live chat on Tuesday. The live chat team do take the decision to close the session when they feel that allowing more people to join will mean that it is hard for those already present to follow the chat.
However, if you have already joined the chat then you should not be locked out. I am looking into why this happened and will do my best to put it right.
It seems strange - there are usually more than 8 members on Thursday evening without any problems, well there are when chat is working.......maybe a complete new chat interface is required.
Just wanted to express my concerns as well (as one of those locked out last night) - I agree with all that has been said above but also wanted to ask if at least the message you get when you are locked out because of the number of people online, says just that. The message I and others got was
"Error 204 - Wrong Roomkey
Sorry, you can't enter the chat room at the moment.
This room is currently closed. The moderator will open it a few minutes before the session begins."
This clearly makes no sense when you know the room is currently supposedly open. I (like Dawn) tried several times to get back in because I didn't know what the problem was.
Hope that Ann will be able to sort things out for us but if that's not possible, please can we at least have clearer information?
I have passed on your comments/concerns to Ann (Interactive Services Manager), however, she is unable to access a computer today due to other work commitments but will be back tomorrow and will reply to you then.
I can understand why the chat room was closed (not that I was there, have not used it for some time). It does get quite busy when there are more than a few people trying to chat at the same time and it is quite hard to work out who is talking to whom. On the other hand, I do agree with Dawn, there are very limited means of getting in touch on this site.
Just me and my usual gripe...
I echo what Anne say - I find it incredible that you can say the room had to be locked half way thru because there were too many. Anne reckons there were only about 8 and from the posts above a number of them who were present initially lost their connection and were then stopped from coming back. These forums provide so few means of communication that many look forward to this one hour, just once a week. You have a moderator and a nurse present so there is no problem with making sure everyone who wants can join in. I am involved in running chat rooms on the other site and have never had to limit the number of users at any one time. Have BCC no idea what it feels like to look forward to that brief time to chat with others once a week, who understand, to find access barred and and then to be told they were too late? It is not an 'inconvenience' - that is belittling how important it is to this group.
Thanks for the info but it does raise a little concern for me.
Is this really the maximum for future use? There were only 8 or so Users online with a couple more wanting to come in. Surely, this isnt satisfactory for a national support website? (I dont mean to be horrible but I would be gutted if I couldnt get in!) This is one means of sanity when you have this awful disease.
Would an MSN Group be a possibilty?
(I am a member of a completely different type of group and we have chats, by invitation upon logging in - there can easily be 20-25 of us at any one time, with no problems. There are 2 moderators running it)
I am sorry some of you experienced technical problems with live chat. As there were a lot of users attending the Iive chat session last night the room was locked approximately thirty minutes after commencing. This is probably why some of you were unable to get back in.
I apologise for any inconvenience.
I lost my connection too and then I couldn't get back on I had the same error message I thought it was just me! I was really cross because I've been waiting all week for the live chat
Sorry you've had problems with live chat tonight I'll pass your comments on to those working on live chat.
That was the message I got as well but it was nearly the end of the session so I just assumed it was too close to the end to let me back in.
ANy thoughts Moderator?
I was in for about 30 minutes then lost my wireless connection and when I tried to get back in I had same message.
I did wonder whether anyone not joining in say the first 30 minutes was not allowed in at the end?
When did you first try to login?
Did anyone else have problems getting in - I assumed it was general - didnt think for a minute i as the only one shut out 😞
Error 204 - Wrong Roomkey
Sorry, you can't enter the chat room at the moment.
This room is currently closed. The moderator will open it a few minutes before the session begins.
I tried several times without success - Moderator any clues why? I had particularly wanted to wish angee well in person for her op tomorrow.
sorry for disappearing so suddenly from tonight's live chat. My son started downloading something on his computer and I lost the wireless connection! ANd I'm moving so slowly at the mo, that by the time I'd got him to stop it was too late to rejoin. Can't yell in my normal way either. LOL
Really enjoyed chatting to you all even if you did make me giggle, sixpen and angee. Had to hold a cushion to my side for a while!
Hope to join in again next week - with son suitably banned for an hour.
