Lymphodema?

Re: Lymphodema?

Hi good that it has settled but wise to keep an eye on it. Yeah GP should point you in right direction so you could be assessed and at least in the system if it were to flare up again. I don't know why some bcn's are in the job when they are dismissive and unhelpful the few I have dealt with have been excellent x

Re: Lymphodema?

Thanks Whitelily. It has settled down. I've seen the swelling around the knuckles even at home, then it settles. It did it a few times on holiday, so hopefully it's just the heat and it taking s bit longer to clear on that side. I'm a bit obsessed with the thought of lymphodema though.
My bcn is pretty useless, makes you feel she has no time if you phone, and very dismissive, so I think I may make an appointment with my gp and ask about lymphodema specialists.

Re: Lymphodema?

Hi Powdow it's difficult to say it could be just the heat as with no lymph nodes it takes longer to clear any swelling which can happen naturally when we are hot, however I think it is important that you get seen as soon as possible on your return home. If you can contact your bcn and find out the lymphoedema service contact through them. In my experience the sooner you get it seen and assessed the better the outcome, mine did start on holiday as heat can affect it if the system becomes overloaded. Try to elevate your arm and gently massage every day until you can get seen and assessed. Hopefully it will settle down X

Lymphodema?

Hi i had full axilla clearance last year. I am on holiday just now in Jamaica, almost at the end of two weeks. My affected arm looks like its more swollen and certainly my knuckles at times are more swollen than unaffected side. My arm feels slightly heavier, and when straightening my hair feels like its not doing it any good. I haven't got burnt or anything, but wonder if even the heat puts stress on the arm and cause lymphodema? I stay mainly in the shade, apart from when I'm going into pool.
Can it be that my arm can just get more swollen easier but not necessarily lymphodema?
