Evening all 🙂
So, this is a new thread for the 2015 MARCHING Together posse and anyone else who wants to join in to swap notes and advice as we all try to find our 'new normal' with work, relationships, finances and just life generally.
Thanks Rosemary, think I'll turn up at GP surgery as soon as they open tomorrow and see if they'll squeeze me in, stupid to be this worried I'm sure, but you know what it's like, am fearing the worst.
Am getting myself into a panic today. Patch on ribs, both elbows and inside of upper arm on the treated side has been aching for a few days and I put it down to my brain playing tricks as my annual check up is due. But this morning I woke up to find a long thin bruise sort of thing running down the inside of my upper arm on the treated side, looks a bit like a vein that is bruised (sort of red, green, yellow with black blotches). So, clearly not all in my mind after all. Tried googling and got scary answers (DVT, cellulitis etc) so put the internet away sharpish!
Should I try to get a GP appointment do you think even though that will probably take a few days, or just hang on until I see the surgical bods on Thursday?
Afternoon all 🙂
Fuffs I don't think I can advise you as it is such a personal decision but I really feel for you, it's just so miserable when you feel too exhausted to even think properly never mind trying to function. Awful position to be in so I hope you can reach a decision that feels right to you.
Rosemary that sounds more positive (although its a sad day when something like that counts as a positive!) I'm still sending every possible good vibe your way and trusting your GP is right. Hope you don't have to wait too long to hear. Sad news about your little kitkat so I hope he is on the mend. Emergency trips to the vet definitely aren't cheap are they.
Got my annual follow-up on Thursday and the moment the appointment was confirmed earlier this week everything started to ache and I've since developed every single deadly disease known to man (all in my head of course) so I'll be very pleased to get it over with.
Love to you all
Just been googling bone scans Rose but can't find anything about waiting times for results...piece of string apparently. Just hope it's something minor but the fear is just overwhelming isn't it. Will keep an eye on this board for updates and am always here if you want to talk/whinge/cry at the unfairness of it all.
Oh god Rosemary, don't know what to say, so worried for you and hope it turns out to be nothing and understand why you're panicking. Nothing I can say or do to help so will just send you masses of hugs and good wishes. When will you know more?
Still working on some stuff especially now. It was this week last year my dog died and I had an initial diagnosis. Then there was lots of humming and haaing and was it!!!!!!!!!!!
Daughter is getting married next year and finally things are clicking into place - She wants to do it herself, gets angry at an anxious mother 'interfering'. What she doesn't realise is that this time last year I wasn't sure how well I would be for the wedding or anything else(tears in eye now)
Anyway dream wedding dress has been purchased and thanks to a private sale on Ebay has saved a £1000, so no complaints and it is perfect in everyway
Trip to hospital on Tuesday has resulted in me being even again. Looks really good and OH, who said I was fine admitted it looked better, so have a couple of friends - one commenting that I am now more even than she is with her real boobs
So now no probs with mother of bride outfit if I ever find anything suitable - daughter suggested vintage.
Absolutely no hat though (that's me said that!)
Nearly there Francine, fingers still crossed for you. So pleased Sharon, that your new job has really worked out well
Any one else I hope you are all continuing to heal in everyway and look forward to your posts
Love Beryl xx
Hi ladies, so nice to catch up with everyone. Seems like we have known each other for years! Well done Francine, nearly there and what will you do with your spare time. Ha, didn't we all feel like we had lost a friend when rads finished. At least there is a new Bond film out so I can see all those weird gadgets on the screen. Looks a great film but has anyone seen the trailer for the Maggie Smith film where she lives in a camper van. Oh, I have to see. Sharon, sounds great on the job front, so pleased it has gone well. Pain in boob better since speaking with bc nurse but will kerp 30th appt to have a check. Mammogram due December, brings back memories of last year but we have to stay strong and positive. Working in the medical centre I see so many referrals going through daily for bc checks and many are so young. So, sending all the best wishes to you all, I still have to carve my pumpkin and hope not too many knock. Have to tell you this though, very naughty but so good , sorry, trick or treat, give them a toffe apple which is not an apple, coat an onion in chocolate, push in a stick and they will never know, until they take that bite! Lol and millions of xxxxxxxxx
Hi ladies, lovely to hear from you all
Still hanging in there Francine? Bet you've got that 'porn star on a bad day' pose down pat now haven't you? I guess you're at the red & itchy stage by now but hopefully nothing too worrying for you. I seem to recall going some funny colours about 3 weeks in, sort of puce colour (ewwwhh!) but it's gone now and I've no marks at all, not even a tan line.
Pandorra I'm so sorry you're still getting pain after all this time. Must be annoying as well as painful, it's hard to believe that a disease that had no major symptoms initially can result in such brutal treatment isn't it. Hope it clears up for you soon and good luck for 30th with the surgeon. Is that your annual check up?
Good to hear from you Beryl & SueBee, sounds as if you're both moving on still but it seems frustratingly slow for both of you. I guess we have no choice but to just get on with it but won't it be great when it is finally over. SueBee if I'd known it would kill off the hair on my body I would definitely have asked to have had my legs done Definitely worth 25 sessions of radiation to avoid ever having to wax again!
Life is still going well for me: my new job is just wonderful, really love it and am getting to do all sorts of interesting things that don't really have anything to do with the work I'm paid to do but no one seems to mind. I'm feeling well too, no pain (other than a bit of an ache now and again which isn't much worse than normal hormonal aches were) and my stamina seems to be gradually coming back. Just hope my annual check in November is good news so that I can enjoy this Christmas and forget all about last Christmas (seem to recall being a sobbing mess wondering if it would be my last!)
Love to you all
Yay I'm in - had password probs just lately
Hi Fracine thoughts are with you every day - just follow all the advice you can from here - I think we know more as a collective brain than just a few medical ones (wink)
Had a shock on Friday, brought back a lot of those shakey unable to cope feelings - Mammogram letter arrived - I knew it was soon but the letter was still a shock. It's on the 25th November.
Have been fitted for a fillet this week, now waiting for delivery. What a larff! So many different shapes and lumps and bumps. LOL
I was unable to go swimming this week, have had a sore(possibly a bite) which of course I couldn't feel untill it had gone nasty. Seems OK now but didn't want to risk swimming pool bacteria.
Hope all are well and enjoying life
Hi lovely ladies, haven't popped in for awhile, where has the time gone. Thinking of you Francine, make sure you rest, it does knock you out. So pleased your job has worked well Sharon, makes you feel normal doesn't it. Hope everyone else doing well, anyone due for their mamo yet. I had some horrible weeks with scar pain, just felt like glass but I have to admit I wasn't massaging it as just didn't want to touch it. Anyway spoke with my bc nurse and I am seeing my surgeon on 30th, but in the last 2 weeks not as bad. Still wearing support bra and that seems to help. Lol to everyone and xxxxxxxx
Morning Francine, how are you coping with the radiotherapy? Hope it hasn't been a problem for you so far. I found calendula cream/oil worked well and I swapped to those 'nighttime' soft stretchy bras with the deep elasticated bands and no fastenings for the duration and that seemed to work (worked a whole lot better once I took the advice from someone on here to turn them inside out too )
Hi Francine. I had 25 as that was/is their protocol for DCIS. Seems odd that I had more than people with invasive cancer. I started off using QV cream, which is aqueous cream basically, then switched to E45. I went pink, then it tanned. It wasn't really sore and it didn't break. The only issue I had was that my skin as a whole got more sensitive. I had a reaction to a sun block on my next and upper chest - nowhere near the zapped patch. Then 14 days in, I developed an allergic reaction on my arms, I think to perfume. That needed very strong antihistamines from my GP to shift. Good luck with it all xx nearly over
Hi Francine. I had 25 days at the LRI. It was okay. Tiredness kicked in after 14 sessions, gradually got worse, peaked a week after, then I just got better every day. I'm about 5 weeks post rads now and feel great. Good luck with it. Maria x
Hi Beryl *waves at you madly*
So glad to hear some of the grey clouds have lifted and life is becoming fun again, woohoo! There's no point going through all this if we can't enjoy ourselves afterwards is there so I hope we all get years and years of good times now. Good luck with your swimming, sounds like it's good exercise even if you do stray into other lanes (if I hear of a woman being attacked in a fit of swimming lane rage I'll know it's you )
Really looking forward to meeting you Francine as long as you feel fit enough by then of course. I found the whole radiation thing pretty tiring from about two weeks in but hopefully you'll have a super easy time of it to make up for all the trials and tribulations along the way. Oh and I probably should mention that I can't sing at all, can't hold a note never mind an actual tune so while it will be lovely to meet, you might want to banish me to the other end of wherever you are sitting so that I don't ruin your evening (the fact that I CAN'T sing doesn't mean that I WON'T sing!)
Lovely to hear you are going to have a meet up. Christmas is always emotional anyway, meeting up will be an extra gift
I have finaly started swimming again - well managed the first week then last week on the way had a puncture. I left OH waiting for AA and took myself home, as you do!
Anyway - what a tricky thing to have to do (swimming that is) Had problems doing breast stroke, I know I found it really funny. When I stretch out and pull in the super stretched muscles that hold me together don't give.
Going on my back with one arm not as mobile as it used to be found myself heading in the wrong direction and into other peoples lanes !LOL
Still hoping things will gradually improve now.
All seem cheerfull.
Great that your job has worked out. Francine only a few more weeks, thinking of you
I seem to be coming out of some sort of black haze. I seem to have a lot more energy, sleeping better and generally more cheerful about life
Perhaps that's it - 1 year diagnosis anniversary coming up and I have a future
Good wishes to all
Hi Francine, just booked a ticket for the candlelight carol concert so hopefully I'll get to meet you at long last (I'm not difficult to spot: dumpy little ginger with acne & wrinkles, wonky boobs and a big grin )
Morning Francine, phew, very pleased that you're nearly there and it's fantastic that it'll all be done before Christmas. Means you get to enjoy the Christmas hols properly (although I expect you'll still be tired from the radiotherapy by that stage so hope you're going to let the family/friends run around sorting it out and not try to do it all yourself).
Hope everyone else is doing well? The board is very quiet so I guess we've all got swept up in normal life again. I can't decide if it's a good thing that the time has gone quickly or not. Hard to believe my first annual check up is due soon, where on earth did a whole year go??
New job is going well, I love it and they seem happy with me. I'm coping with a full working day perfectly well but still finding that I don't have the energy to do much after work and really appreciate a rest at the weekend. I suspect that's as much to do with having had 18 months away from work as the whole cancer business though. Had a few quiet, weepy moments as well, mostly through tiredness I think. I've been catching up with old colleagues/friends now that I'm back at work and somehow or other having to explain why I've been away from work and seeing their reaction makes it seem a bigger deal than it felt at the time.
Love the sound of the candlelit concert Francine, off now to find out more about that.
love to all, hope you're all feeling good and doing well
Francine, so pleased for you. Take it easy and then party!! Just returned from boating holiday on Norfolk broads snd it was great. Just love being on the water, scenery beautiful and serene. Hope everyone doing ok, suppose mamos are coming up for some, we certainly have a busy life dont we. Received invite for the moving forward session, Sharon I believe you have already attended, so looking forward as seems very informative. Bought some jingle bells in the Range today, great for annoying people. Masses of love to all xxxxxxx
Hi Francine, that's brilliant news, really pleased for you after all you have been through, good news was long overdue, love and hugs x x x x
Woohoo Francine! *does the jig of joy for you*
Must be a huge relief to know you're on the home straight now, delighted for you
PS lunch today was roasted guinea fowl, fondant potato, lots of lovely veg and a very nice bakewell tart with custard. Getting fatter by the day so hoping I find some willpower soon or I'll have to be carried into work on a lorry
It seems as if you have a decision to make. Sorry I know what I would do, but I am not you, so will just say do what you feel is right for you and no one else not even OH.
Hard decision though - take care.
One other thing - although I am often warm the Anastrozole tropcal moments have calmed down quite a bit.
