Re: Marvellous Marchies 2012 Moving on

I can see we are all busy! I'm just updating on here as I can type more quickly 🙂
Busy at work making people redundant and have just typed my own letter too. Not going to let it phase me as my priorities have certainly changed!! OH got the big contract in Hull so now he wants me to go live there and work for him - must admit I am tempted - no bills haha but then again how would my kids manage? that's what I worry about.
He's asked me to go up for a meeting with them on Thursday so he's had to pay for my train tickets as it's 3 days til pay day - I feel terrible that I couldnt pay my own way. Ho hum.
Went to GP last week with this ruddy neck ache - he's ordered an MRI as I did have one back in '96 or '97 but its not on the system - they told me then it was dislocated at some point and fused back together, so it will be good to have an update! I've spent so much on sports massages just to keep me going!
Anyway, daughter still looking for more hours in a nursery, son still at Barclays but still on emergency tax .
Nothing improves!!

Just popping in to say hello to any lurkers. Hoping everyone is doing ok and getting on with theri lives again, although I know that cancer is never far away from us, especially as we continue to go for hospital appointments and check-ups.
I hope Fitter (Pam) is getting along ok, and has had some good news since your last post.
We are having another meet up in London at the beginning of July, it will be great to see everyone again, and a couple of new faces. Hope we manage another get together later in the year when more of us might be able to make it.

Re: Marvellous Marchies 2012 Moving on

Hi All, I think its about time for an update !

Wishing you all well. Hoping everyone is managing to 'move on'. I do think of you all often and the tremendous support that we gave one another. Quite remarkable really.
I don't know about you but sometimes when I'm back in the thick of work arguing about deep-rooted problems in the office I find myself stopping in mid sentence and thinking 'did I imagine I had cancer?' 'How can I be back fighting these silly parochial battles, has nothing moved on'? I find I loose my temper and show my emotions more - which for me is a BIG thing. I like that new side of me. i take less flack now. On the other had I feel a rising frustration that I didn't fight 'the good fight' to then not make something more of my life. Do you feel that way too?
May in Rome means the breast cancer ‘race for the cure’. We did it again this year and it was lovely. There was the lady who had helped me when I was fist diagnosed, me and a lady whom I helped this year when she was diagnosed. The support chain… very nice. If women ruled the world. What different values would drive our lives, fuel our economy? Competition, survival of the fittest at the expense of the weakest. I’d like to think it would be different.
So cancer was part of our past. It may be part of our future. But for now, in my life, I’m healthy, happy and blessed.
I’m not on the facebook page can someone explain how to find it?
Great big squeeze to you all.

Re: Marvellous Marchies 2012 Moving on

Hello MM's
Not too much activity on here now! I hope everyone is ok, especially those we dont hear from on the fb page.
Ceej, sounds like you are as busy as ever! Are you keeping up with the running you were doing? I've made a start on going out walking more often, but am finding it hard to get back into it. Think it would be easier if the sun was out! We've booked up to do the Yorkshire Wolds Way in August so I will have to get some miles under my belt soon!
Beryl, hope you have had a lovely May. Your trip to Edinburgh sounded great, I hope you got some good weather. I guess your sister is over here now so I expect you are being kept busy entertaining. Did you get round to watching Mrs Browns Boys with her? What did she think?!
I've got to go for an ultrasound on my right armpit in a couple of weeks (mx side). I've got a swollen area there, dont think its anything suspicious as I think its been there for some time, but I just want to make doubly sure.
Jane, I'm just making do with my swim prosthesis now. I have 2, but think they both will be too light. I've bought a couple of strappy t shirts from amoena (expensive, but worth it). I did manage to get a couple form m&s, but they went back in the end as they were just too clingy and showed off my spare tyre too much!!
I'm off to bed now so take care everyone, hope you are all ok

Re: Marvellous Marchies 2012 Moving on

Hello MM's.
BERYL I hope you had a lovely time in Edinburgh with your daughter, and I'm sure you are looking forward to the arrival of your sister, hopefully the weather may improve for her visit.
CARE N I hope you have had a lovely holiday in Rhodes, and that the lymphoedema wasn't a problem.
JOAN I think we are away at the same time in June, so far I have ordered 2 swimming prosthesis and have had to send them back as they were massive, so hoping the last one I ordered will be ok, hadn't expected it to be so difficult. Hope you managed to get some info re recon when you had your appointment.
CEEJ I hope that your lymphoedema is now under control, and that you have some lovely holidays planned. I hope your son has managed to get all his problems with his bikes sorted.
WOLSTY sorry to hear that you have got to have your recon sorted, hopefully then you will be well recovered to enjoy the summer (if we ever get one!!). I hope your daughter is doing ok.
CAROLE I hope you are recovering ok from your recon, and that you will take it easy when you go back to work. How is your little cat doing?
KQ I'm guessing you are counting down until the end of your Herceptin now, oh and the completion of the facilities for the chickens!!!!
BETTIE I hope that you have a good time at the BCC meeting, I to used to love the heat and sun but now can't cope with it in long spells, so will need to find lots of shady spots in Portugal.
DANI glad that you have dates for the final bit of your recon, then you can enjoy a lovely holiday. How is your FIL doing?
Take Care

Re: Marvellous Marchies 2012 Moving on

Hi, yes I've returned to catch up on posts not on FB. Gabby, CareN & Beryl, all have lovely holidays. I'm craving Sun now epecially after the last few days. Its been beautiful. This staying out of the sun issue, is it a permanent thing or so many months after treatment? I cant stand the sun like I used to. I used to sunbathe for hours but get really uncomfortable now so sit in the shade with a big floppy hat and factor 50!
My little dog isnt too well. Her breathing is quite bad. I know she has a heart condition and she is 12 but it still really makes me very sad. I am just really keeping her quiet and spoiling her.
Off to Bristol next week for the forum testing. Looking forward to it.
No more news. Work is very busy so I'm just keeping my head down.

Hello MM's ,
Gosh this time last year this thread was buzzing with activity, now it's so quiet, as I guess we are all moving along.
BERYL and GABBY hope you both have a lovely Birthday.
CARE N I'm sure you will have a fab holiday, Rhodes is one of the Greek I salnds that I haven't been to. Is it your arm that has the lymphoedema or the area around your WLE?
FITTER I hope you are doing ok and have got a treatment plan in place..
Love to All.

Happy birthday Beryl, have a fabulous time! it sounds like you've got a good weekend of celebrating planned.
Joan I'm so impressed by your holiday plans, are you in training now? Good luck with it!
Jane well done on your walk.
I'm off on holiday on Tursday, we're going to Rhodes with all the children and their partners, I'm really looking forward to it.
i saw the lymphoedema nurse again this week and she gave me a sleeve for the flight, but I'm not sure whether to wear it, it's so difficult to get on and not very comfortable. She taught me some massage techniques and exercises that I will do though, and gave me a link to a website with lots of tips.
Pam, I hope you are ok, and treatment is going well.
hope everyone is doing well and look forward to seeing some of you in July.
love to all

Re: Marvellous Marchies 2012 Moving on

Morning All, Just popped on to check-in but nothing much happening.

Joan - Iknow what you mean about knees and well done you for even thinking about doing such a walk!

Hope everyone is doing Ok out there and to let you know that I'm still thinking of you and send my best wishes.

It's my birthday today and we are out for drinks tonight and lunch tomorrow at Chinese Restaurant that only does a buffet on Sunday, which is so good and my choice for birthday celebration! That is not going to help the waistline but who cares tomorrow. This time last year I couldn't even think about it. How things have moved on for all of us.Take care my friends.

Re: Marvellous Marchies 2012 Moving on

Hello ladies
Just poppin in to say hi to anyone lurking about! Hope that everyone is doing well now and getting lives back on track etc. I guess that is the case as its so quiet on here now, although still very active on our fb page.
Beryl, sorry your thumbs are no better. My knees are really giving me problems. GP thinks its osteo-arthritis, which I tend to agree with rather than se's of tamoxifen. I've had creaky knees for a long time now but its certainly got much worse and quite painful recently. I guess the Tam could have made it worse maybe. Hard to know what it would have been like anyway! Hope your weekend away with your daughter is lovely!
Pam, hope you have a treatment plan in place now and that things are more settled. xxx
We are planning a long distance walk at the end of the summer. We are going to do the Yorkshire Wolds Way which is 79 miles and runs from Hull to Filey. I need something to motivate me, so this is it!!
Take care MM's and big hug and love to you all

Re: Marvellous Marchies 2012 Moving on

Evening All, Hope you are all doing Ok and managing you days etc.

Jane (Marie) - Hope your walk went off Ok and you were not too tired at the end of it. I dont know about everyone else but my energy levels are not back to how they used to be and I feel quite pooped in the evenings after not doing too much!

A friend of mine as arranged tickets for the Chelsea Flower Show on May 21st (Members Day) so that will be a very long day. I hope they have plenty of places to sit down because I'm going to need it! I'm looking forward to it because we couldn't go there last year because of treatment and the year before our trip was cancelled because tour company didn't get the tickets. Third time lucky I guess!

Jane (Wolsty) - I hope are Ok and your daughter too? You certainly have had a lot to contend with!

Joan - We have a few episodes of Mrs BB for my sister to watch so it will be intersting. I doubt we will get passed the first one. I will keep you posted on that one. Sorry I can't may the next trip to London but I'm sure you will all have a good time together. Hop you are managing to speak to your young man on Skype? My thumbs are not any better but what the hell it's something to put up with I suppose.

KQ - Where do you get all your energy from what with working FT, cats, hubby and now chickens? Good luck with chickens and I hope you get some nice fresh eggs. We have two broods of wild ducks chicks come into our garden everyday to rummage around and drink the water we put out for them. Everyday the broods lose a cick or two which is quite sad but that's nature I guess.

Pam - so sorry to hear your news, what a shock, especially as they had already told you that it was benign. Hope as others have said that you have a treatment plan in place now and are able to feel a little more optimistic although I'm sure its all incredibly daunting. Lots of love xx
Beryl - you sound as busy as usual - bet you can't wait for May!!
Jane - hope your walk goes well - at least the sun is shining!!
Di - hens - how exciting - lots of eggs hopefully. I have 6 more Herceptins to go - can't wait until the 3 weekly visits to the chemo unit finally end!!
I'm lazing in bed planning my day. OH has gone to golf, weather is lovely so I might venture into the garden to do a bit of tidying and perhaps try a bit of tennis later.

Hello MM’s
Pam, I’m so sorry to read your news. It’s what we all dread isn’t it? I really hope that your appointment went well today and that you have got a treatment plan in place now. I’m not surprised you are fed up, you must feel that the stuffing has been knocked out of you. Please let us know how you got on today when you can. Thinking of you and sending a big hug, Joan xxx
Marie67, its your macmillan walk this weekend, isnt it? Hope you have some decent weather for it! Hope you enjoy it. We went out for a walk last Sunday, did 4 miles, so I’ve a long way to go before I am back to the level I was pre-bc (if ever!).
Beryl, I doubt that your sister would enjoy Mrs Browns boys live, there is even more f’ing than the tv show! It made me laugh about the DVD of Adele! How funny! Hope you are still out and about at your various social events and groups. What a lovely treat from your daughter. Edinburgh is lovely, I’ve been a few times and always had a good time. Hope you get some nice weather Xxx
I went back to my GP today for a follow up after my little blip a couple of weeks ago. She said that its totally understandable that our minds work overtime after the last year. I feel much better than I did, the breathlessness is better and I am sure my back ache was muscular. However, she thinks I have osteo-arthritis in my knees. They weren’t brilliant pre-bc, but I was trying to put it down to the tamoxifen, which of course it isn’t as I’ve had mild problems for some time. Just part of getting older, its all downhill after 50!!
Well, better go and put dinner on, take care ladies

KQ - I felt much better after having my hair coloured but still trying to control it and its getting longer. You are going to be busy looking after you new hens soon and it will be nice having some fresh eggs very soon.
My youngest daughter is taking me to Edinburgh on 8 may for a two night break for my Birthday. We are going on the train from Perterborough (first class) and staying in a lovely hotel in the centre. It will be so nice to have some quality time with her and she is such a lovely and caring girl. Hubby is taking us to the station and picking us up so that will be great. My twin is coming on 19 May dor just over two weeks and I'm really looking forward to that also

Well rubbish news. After been told by 2 - 3 people that it looked benign no its cancer.
I also thought that it had all been removed but i got that wrong have removed what they can that is safe to do.
The tumour that i have is due to the breast cancer.
Going tomorrow to see onc and see what the plan will be.
So fed up just got to keep going not going to let it beat me.

Re: Marvellous Marchies 2012 Moving on

Hello Everyone, Gosh it is so quiet on here now and it seems really odd! Everything doing OK here and my hair is just taking off. I'm trying to grow it down at the sides so that I have an even length and then try to decide what to do with it? It's OK the first day I wash it but the next well it just does exactly what it wants. I wash it every other day and have it coloured once a month. When I'm getting close to the forth week then it certainly needs colouring! Looking forward to my sister coming over in May and we have a big family bash arranged whilst she is here but we need to go to Northampton for that. We have a large family and we all get on for the most part. My sisters son will be working over here from the USA somethime in May for a while and will be very close (workwise) to where our family lives in Northampton, which is quite a co-incidence and funny how things work out. He was born over here but I doubt he will remember much about it as he was about 7 or 8 when they went back to the USA.

Jane (Marie) - Well done you for doing the walk again this year and it doesn't seem 5 minutes since we were talking about it the first time around. I'm sure you will have far more stamina this time and you did so well completing it considering your chemo etc. Hope you are doing OK and not working too hard. Did they sort out the car situation at work yet?

CJ - Thanks for sending the infor and it has been really helpful! Hope everything is fine for you and your family, especially your daughter and her job/son.

Fitter- Shope you are recovering well?

Joan (Patchit) - Glad to hear that you had a good time when you went to see Mrs Brown's Boys! It is very funny but the language is a bit iffy. I would love to show it to my sister when she comes over from the States (we have a DVD) but I don't think she would like all the 'F' words! She would say that the comedy doesn't need it and it is totally unnecessary! I suppose she does have a point. She got Adelle's DVD when she was in concert at the Albert Hall and gave it away because of her foul language! She was so disappointed, such a talent she said but a foul mouth. Anyway, that's enough about that.

Had three ladies from my Craft Group come to see me last week and we went to a local Craft shop to get some supplies and inspriration. We also had lunch together and went to see another one of our ladies who's got a static caravan on one of the leisure sites here. We sat nattering for about 2 hours or so and we all enjoyed ourselves and had a lovely day. It was a pitty that it was so cold with the wind but at least the sun was out.

Have to go now because my tea is ready. Take care and much love.

Re: Marvellous Marchies 2012 Moving on

Hello MM's
Glorious day here, finally able to get out and get the garden sorted, though have to say I find after a while my right arm aches and my stamina is less than before so having more tea breaks!!!
CLARE I imagine that Rome has been very busy of late. Hope you are continuing to do ok.
I am going to do the Macmillan Walk again this year( 20th April) along the Bure Valley Railway. I did it last year as a baldie and just before my 3rd chemo, so this year I am thinking it will be easier and warmer!!!!!!
KQ I have now got myself some mini straightners like you got in Bham, they are fab, cats are happier now the weather is getting warmer.
BERYL hope you are doing ok up on the coast, guess it will be getting busier soon as the holiday season starts.
Hope everyone else is able to enjoy the sunshine.

Re: Marvellous Marchies 2012 Moving on

Hello MM’s
Beryl, funny I was thinking of you today, think I missed you telling us you were away for Easter and I wondered where you were! Glad you had a nice break away. Mrs B was very funny. Quite rude but funny. They were on stage for just over 2 hours and it was a very entertaining evening. So blooming cold though! The LG arena is a bit of a trek from B’ham international station and I must admit the cold took my breath away. We stayed at ‘our’ premier inn although Will wasn’t on duty, but his brother was. It was really nice to go back although it felt odd without all my MM’s!
My mind has been playing overtime with my head lately. I’ve had quite a painful neck / shoulder for a couple of weeks and have also been quite breathless. Now, I KNOW the ache is muscular as I have been taking Ibuprofen regularly for the last couple of days and it has eased considerably. I am also fairly certain that the breathlessness is due to the cold weather. That’s me being sensible and keeping everything in context. Tell my mind that please someone!!! In the dark corners of my mind its panic stations! Grrr! I hate feeling like this and cant wait for it to pass, which I know it will.
Hope everyone else is ok? Claire, how are things with you? Hope it’s a bit warmer in Rome than it is here!
Take care MM’s, I’m off to put my pj’s on.

Re: Marvellous Marchies 2012 Moving on

Hello Lovely Ladies, Well we are back home after our Easter break in the caravan. Although the weather wasn't fantastic it was good to get away. The sun did shine for quite a bit of the time and now it's time to sort out all the washing and un-pack. We came home to a problem with out water tank in the loft so hubby's called out a plumber because he thinks it's the stop cock! Anyway, just one of those things that's sent to bug us. Caught up on all the messages that have come through from FB and on here.

Good to hear that Fitter is doing OK after her OP' and do keep in touch with us so we know how you are progressing because we will be thinking of you!

Marie (Jane) - Sometimes you have to wonder at the decisions that are being made. I do hope that it isn't going to cause you too much agro'.

Joan (Patchit) - How did your weekend away go and I bet Mrs Browns Boys was fantastic - I just love that show!

I'm doing OK and now that Easter is over I'm going to have to get back down the gym and start taking things more seriously with regards to calorie intake! Won't be able to get into any of my summer clothes!

Washing machine calls. Take care all.

Jane, sorry you are having car problems, that seems a miserly amount of mileage you can claim!
Have a good Easter everyone,

Re: Marvellous Marchies 2012 Moving on

Hello MM's ,
Well am not a happy bunny at work at the moment, have just been informed via HR (nhs) that as from May we will either have to apply for a lease car, can only use one company apparrently and they are very expensive approx £200 per month and get 32p per mile or use own car and get 24p per mile, so which ever way will be out of pocket!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There wa I thinking this year would be so much easier than the last one!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Marvellous Marchies 2012 Moving on

Hi Beryl - the nurse gave me a leaflet and showed me how to massage across my body to allow the fluid build up to move from the swollen breast to the other side. she said if it stays in there it's full of germs and stuff and can be dangerous! I have noticed the swelling go down already and the "hotness" as well. If you let me have your email address - I'll scan the leaflet in that she gave me tho it says its for the arm it has the breast bit in too. I would keep on pushing - they MUST have a lymphodema nurse!

Re: Marvellous Marchies 2012 Moving on

Ceej - When I saw the Doctor for 1 year check-up after surgery she told me I had that in my breast when I told her about track marks left after taking bra off. She told me it wouldn't go and didn't tell me about doing any exercises, typical! I don't suppose she would have said anything if I hadn't said something and she's even examined me before this. So, what exercises did they tell you to do? I've been massaging the area and that seems to have helped! Hope you are doing OK and things are improving.

Now Im going to look at what all the fuss is about regarding a certain persons comments on another thread!

Take care everyone. Off to the gym this morning for an hour and the rest of the day is mine - whooppeeeeeeeeee!

Re: Marvellous Marchies 2012 Moving on

Hi Beryl - it's just lymphodema in my breast - it's been slightly swollen and warm ever since radiotherapy but they kept telling me it was a normal side effect, but the lymphodema nurse has acted immediately saying it could go into my arm. So there was me waiting for it to get better and it wasnt going to without a bit of help!
Have been very lazy tonight and not done any exercise at all - going to bed now too 🙂
Fitter - Pam - let us know how you are x

Re: Marvellous Marchies 2012 Moving on

Hi lovely ladies, Just caught up with everones news and can't remember what to say in response!

Ceej - Sorry but can't recall what symptoms you were experiencing to cause you to worry about your boob/lymps. Please remind me just in case its something that I'm experiencing as well, also what they told you to do? Glad you had a nice weekend with your friend. Pitty about the run but it's something you can do another time by the sound of it. I went to the gym yesterday and again this morning but it's going to take me ages to get back to the fitness level i used to have. Still something is better than nothing!

There is talk of another meet up in July (London) but I wont be able to make it due to BIL's 50th birthday bash. If there is another meet up in Sept then it would also be doubtful because in Scotland for the first 3 weeks touring in our caravan. Still I will wait and see what dates are agreed upon.

Fitter - so pleased to hear that they have given you lots of test and it is good news regarding the overall results. Take care and I will be thinking of you.

Marie/Jane - Glad you heating has been sorted and it's working again. Like you our wrather has been all over the place and at tje moment tje sun is out but don't know how long that will lasr.

Hello MM'S,

BERYL hope you are not to chilly up on the coast.
FITTER wishing you well for tomorrow, hope your hospital stay goes smoothly and that you will be home soon.
CARE N hope you enjoyed your trip to Skegness was ok although I'm sure it was a little bracing. I hope you get sorted with lymphodema nurse soon.
CEEJ hope you had a nice meal with your friend, hopefully your daughter is feeling better and able to go back to work.
JOAN, hope you have had a nice time in Bath. I too sometimes have days where I feel out of sorts, I don't feel "ill" but just kinda strange, then it passes and I'm back to me, though I guess our bodies have had to put up with alot over the past year.

Re: Marvellous Marchies 2012 Moving on

Hi Ceeji

Will be going into Coventry. Live at Mickleton near to Stratford on Avon. Had all surgery and treatment for the breast cancer at Warwick hospital. They are amazing there. I think sometimes you are in Worcester. When all of this is sorted maybe we could meet for a coffee.

Pam.
