Re: Masectomy nerves

Best wishes for today Nettie- thinking of you x

Re: Masectomy nerves

Thankyou for your message. I need positive thoughts thankyou. I will ask for the pathology report, didn't think of it, thanks. X

Re: Masectomy nerves

Thank you for the reply. I really can't delay the op so have to have it on Monday. As long as the cancer is taken away then I can plan what happens afterwards at a later date. I am sure everything will be okay in the end. I may need to have radiotherapy and chemo so need to prepare for this too. I will ask the surgeon on Monday about the mesh reconstruction and see what he says. Thanks for your help x

Re: Masectomy nerves

Yes it is the mesh one . I don't know about doing it afterwards - I don't see why not - are you sure you can't have it done at the same time ? I only decided on which op to have the day before my surgery - I think it adds about an hour or two to your operation on Monday - but will save you another operation in the future and all of the associated pain , recovery time and trauma . it might be worth talking to your nurse / surgeon and they might be able to do it all in one - good luck whatever you decide xx

Re: Masectomy nerves

Oh that sounds really good.  Can the Baxon be done after the masectomy?  I can't delay the op so have to go on Monday, can't go through this waiting again, need to have this op asap.  The surgeon did mention to me something about a mesh being fitted afterwards but at the time couldn't take it all in.  Thank you for your reply x

Re: Masectomy nerves

I know how you feel, but I thought it would be less traumatic to have it all done at once, and like you I wanted it all to be over as soon as possible .  I have not regretted my choice so far . The implant  is a good shape, in fact better than my " real " breast and I will be having a reduction on the real one in six months time. I am 50 and welcome my new "perky" breast ! I has the strattice / braxon operation ( see recent daily mail article on this ) and am very pleased so far . You might want to reconsider your decision if you can have this option . Good luck , I know exactly how you are feeling , but when I look back on it all now- only eight weeks ago ,  it really wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be . Sending you hugs and best wishes x

Re: Masectomy nerves

Thank you.  I was originally going to have immediate reconstruction but it sounded too much for me to bear so changed to masectomy with delayed reconstruction.  Hope I have made the right choice as I just wanted the cancer to be gone as quickly as possible.  Just hope the lymph nodes are okay but if not then I will just go through the process as try to stay calm.  Thanks for your reply x

Re: Masectomy nerves

I don't have any particlular tips to stay calm as such , but I had a mastectomy with immediate reconstruction  on May 10 this year following diagnosis on April 28. All I can say is take each day at a time , you will be well looked after by the medical staff , and you will get through it . I had drains in for ten days which seemed unbearable at the time but now it's a distant memory and I'm back in work feeling very positive about things . I read all of the sections in this website which was really helpful, especially about  what to take in to hospital with you . I am happy to answer any questions you have . Good luck , keep calm , you will get through this x
