Mastectomy and Decisions

Hiya Marion,
I had my mx 5 weeks ago. Originally i had planned for a DIEP recon and due to the size of my boobs i am pretty sure they were going to use an implant too. My surgeon did say he could use Lipofill, but that was more to fill in if there are any 'dents' or bumpy bits from what i understood.
Anyway - to cut a lonf story short i now have to have a delayed recon as i developed a clot so had a strightforward mx.
I was told i would need to wait at least a year after rads before they would do my reconstruction now.
I hope that helps a little as i realise it hasnt answered all the questions.

Hi All,
I'm new to the site as I didn't think things were very bad or that I needed support. Ive coped great until now, sailed through the endless tests and 6 cycles of chemo. Im a nurse so I think its been hard being the patient and not wanting to admit I dont have all the answers. One answer I have is that I'm not gonna use tissue from my body to make a new boob! Basically they suggest mastectomy with immediate reconstruction and I've asked them to reconsider and I have some questions for peeps on the forums.
Has anyone had a reconstruction from fat fillers? My surgeon has only done it once before but it sounds like sense to me, he uses the skin on my breast folds into a small breast then later uses fat from another area of my body to fill.
If I go for an implant how long do they last? how long after radio do i have to wait for it to be done?
In all honesty I'd be happy with a mastecotmy and no reconstruction but thats not without problems.
