Re: Mets in brain and lungs :-(

Thank you no I'm not having chemo to begin. I think they're hoping herceptin (and are quite confident) will control them for now with minimal side effects. Thanks Roxy/Sheila I wish you well and glad things are under control x

Re: Mets in brain and lungs :-(

Hi Hilsey,

I have multiple tumours on my lungs but they are stable at the moment and I have no symptoms. I am not Her 2 pos so not on herceptin but apparently it works by attaching itself to the surface of the cancer cells and blocking them from receiving growth signals. It can destroy the cancer cells by alerting the immune system to fight the cancer.

Are they going to give you chemo along with herceptin Hilsey?  Hope you have great results from your treatment.. Love Sheila. Xx

Re: Mets in brain and lungs :-(

Hi Hilsy

I dont have HER2+ cancer but i do have Lung mets and brain mets.

Lung mets were dx in aug last year and basically have just kept on growing but recent chest xray looks like the have started to shrink!

And i was diagnosed with brain mets in april and like you i was completely traumatised but in time it got easier to deal with. And I'm back to being my happy cheery wee self even though iv just been diagnosed with steroid induced diabetes on insulin in the past week.

But after everything iv been through already i sure i can deal with... Just one more hurdle to over come!

Hope you can come to terms with it in time.

Btw my friend was on perjeta, herceptin, and docetaxel last year and now maintained on the PH and her liver lesion went from a 6cm tumour to a shrivelled raisin.

Good luck Hilsy
Love Lulu xxxx

Thanks chocolates, yes let me know! I'm glad you said that about acceptance and planning not meaning giving in, I think it's part of the natural feelings we all have, considering our mortality before we say hang on a moment I'm sooooo not ready for a good while yet!!! Thank you and good luck to you chocolates. X

Re: Mets in brain and lungs :-(

Hi Hilsy, I posted a bit more about my dx and treatment on another thread. However I know what you mean about facing things. I went through a period of being a bit down but have now accepted my condition and what it may eventually mean. I'm not ready to go upstairs yet though so for now I'm living and feeling well. I think what you are going through is natural and I think I would just allow yourself to have these thoughts and begin to order these in your mind. I found that that way I could accept and then move forward. I realise though that that's not for everyone. Also in my mind acceptance does not mean defeat - far from it in my case and lots of others on here too. So don't apologise for being down - and allow your body and mind to lead you on this.
As soon as I have my next scan I'll let you know how the herceptin and perjeta (I hope you're having both) are helping in my lungs to get rid of the nasty gremlins. Hang in there Hilsy. We are all here for you.

Huge hugs
Hxx

Re: Mets in brain and lungs :-(

Hi Roxy thank you so much you've given me such hope and you sound very positive. I've been so positive through everything and now feel defeated, and going through the stages of planning, thoughts of death etc and have felt like I've given in a little but know I'll redeem myself again. Do you know much about herceptin treatment for lungs? Can it destroy or merely control? Did you have many tumours? I apparently have lots of small nodules? X

Re: Mets in brain and lungs :-(

Hi Hilsey,

Welcome to this board. You will get lots of support on here and it really helps! I'm sorry that you have to be here but glad that you have found us. Please don't listen to what your onc says or to statistics. The statistics are way out of date and I don't know why doctors give a time like he has done because they don't know! You will see when you look at the forums in more depth that herceptin can control BC for years and there are other drugs coming out all the time.

I was diagnosed with lung Mets almost 3 years ago and I am still here and doing virtually everything I was doing then.

Please be positive. Do as much research as you can so that you know what treatment is available.

If you Google for "positive stories" for lung Mets you will find survival stories of several years. Good luck with your treatment Hilsey and keep on this forum. You will find it very helpful. Love Sheila. Xx

Mets in brain and lungs :-(

Hi, I've been told I have brain tumour of 2.7 cms on the cellebellum of my brain and all over my lungs. I'm 35 and had her2 positive breast cancer 2 years ago. I've been told I probably have a couple of years left, but that the tumour is in a good place to cut out, will be followed by radiotherapy where it was and I'll be on herceptin for the lungs. Any survival stories beyond just a couple of years would be great please, I'm devastated and terrified x
