Re: Need handholding

Hi Erica

Thank you so much for your words - they really helped.  I too have great confidence in my surgeon and the breast care nurse is great.  It seems I have spend the last 3 weeks trying to balance my thinking about cancer (and doing stuff related to it - getting information overload going to the hosp for tests etc) with the real important stuff like 'have we got any milk' and 'has the dog been out for a walk'!

It's been rather surreal but fast becoming real as I have my operation on 20 June.  Next week is busy as I'm at the hospital on three days.  I certainly want to get on with the treatment and have control of my body again!

Re: Need handholding

Hi Valerie

So sorry to hear of your shock...we ladies on here do understand what a shock that is!!

Your feelings are completely normal, a vast range of emotions and a roller coaster ride.

I had a bi-lateral mastectomy last year with recon as I had no lymph node involvement...and I was scared **itless...but 8 months on and I'm doing ok and so will you. I know it sounds like easy words now and i don't mean to be patronising.

I was told to stay positive by everyone and soon got fed up hearing it when all i wanted to do was curl up and cry, but you do get that strength from somewhere.

I hope it goes ok when you see the surgeon, my consutant was the best. Don't be afraid to ask any questions and dont leave if you feel you dont understand or haven't been answered correctly.

Take care, will be thinking of you

Need handholding

Going to see surgeon again tomorrow (Thursday) to set date for surgery - bi-lateral mastectomy with lymph node involvement.  Still reeling from diagnosis as mammogram was completely clear 18 mohths ago.  No symptoms or changes but just a little more firmness in one breast so had it checked and completely shocked to find large mass in one breast and other one also has cancerous cells.

Crying and desperately terrified of the coming months.  Trying so hard to stay positive.
