Thank you for confirming my place, I am looking forward to attending the forum in June in Swindon and hope that despite being in the middle of chemo, I will be fit to meet other women to share the experiences of the last few months! xxxTina

Hi,

I was diagnosed last month too. Had lumpectomy at the end of March. I’ve got my first oncologist appointment tomorrow and am expecting to start chemo in a couple of weeks. I’ve just e mailed for more info on the Swindon meeting - may see you there!

Scoobs

hi,
i am 26 and last month was diagnosed with breast cancer, i had a lumpectomy at the start of april and im currently waiting to see my oncologist.is there anybody near to my age who is at a similar stage to me?

Hi Bluesmurf,

I’m 33 and was diagnosed with BC on 15th April. I’ve got a lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy booked for the 11th May and then I’ll see my Oncologist.

I hope you are ok, I’ve found it very surreal trying to deal with all of this.

If you want someone to chat to just PM me.

Take care,

Jo

Hi all

Got my date to start chemo (11th May).
I’ve sent back the forms for the Swindon forum - looks good, thanks. Hope to see some of you there.

Sue

Hi I am 22 and just had a masectomy and have my results on thursday, which im really nervous about even though they have already told me they are going to give me chemo.

Hi. I was 43 when I found out I had BC. I had a mastectomy and immediate reconstruction surgery in Sept 09. My chemo started in Jan 10 and my last one was 29 April, I was one of the lucky ones who did not have a bad time with chemo (FEC) and sailed through it, which was a surprise as you only seem to hear of people being really ill with it. For all of your who are just starting your treatment, I wish you all the best and please remember that you will come out of it a stronger person. You will have good and bad days and things do get better. I am looking forward to going back to work in July after being off since Aug 09 and can’t wait. When I was having a really bad day, my husband played a song he had heard called “Only the Strong Survive”. At first it made me howl the house down, but as time went on and I got through chemo it made me smile and became my mantra, now when he plays it I can sing along with it with a smile on my face as I have survived.

All the best to you all.

Hi I’m 29 and was diagnosed in May. Have just had surgery and waiting to see my oncologist although have been told chemo is likely. Finding it difficult to deal with, no-one I know has had to deal with something like this, especially friends my age - they try but don’t really understand how it feels. Don’t mean to be so down, but good to know I’m not alone. Looking at the forum in London…

Hi Sammy and welcome to the BCC forums

I am sure you will receive lots of valuable support and shared experiences from your fellow users very soon. In addition, I have posted the BCC ‘Younger women’ information link which include publications for you to read, there is also a link to our ‘New resource’ pack which contains useful information for anyone newly diagnosed with breast cancer, I hope you find these helpful:

breastcancercare.org.uk/healthcare-professionals/publications/a-diagnosis-of-breast-cancer/*/changeTemplate/PublicationDisplay/publicationId/82/

You are also welcome to call our helpline if you feel it would help to talk things through with someone in confidence, the line is open 9-5 weekdays and 9-2 Sat on 0808 800 6000.

Take care
Lucy

hi sammy, i am 36 and was diagnosed in march. Sorry that you have to deal with all this, it really is rubbish. I suspect you will have chemo as they tend to throw everything plus the kitchen sink at younger women like us. there is a thread for women in their 20s which is good, if you feel up to reading it. It is really hard because i too know nobody in my personal circle who has had breats cancer, its just not in my age group, but most people i talk to have a story about someone they know who has had it. I think as you get older it becomes more of your relaity maybe, but at the moment, what i am going through is so very far removed from what my friends are up to that it leaves you feeling a bit alone really, despite everyone trying to support you. I hope you do have a good support network, i am trying to get to a forum but its hard timing it with treatment and then they are ery far away and nowadays i want to spend my good days with my family and am to be honest a bit scared to go away alone as my confidence has definitely taken a hit!

take care
Vickie

Hi sammy,

Welcome to the forum, but sorry you are here.

I’m slightly younger than you, was diagnosed last June. Noticed you said about friends your age. I’ve started a thread called “Anyone diagnosed in their 20s?”. You’ll find it in the Younger women’s section. There’s quite a few of us around your age. Hoping that will keep you company and make you feel less alone… exactly how I felt before I started the thread… sorry if it sounds like I’m promoting my own thread

Take care xx

PS. tors, think we were typing at the same time. LOL!

as you have let me be a 20 year old by joining your thread, instead of 36 as i am really, i am happy to big up your 20s thread for you!

Hi
I am 35 years old. I had my first chemotherapy 2 weeks ago. Is there anyone of a similar age to me going through the same thing?
I am having chemotherapy first to shrink my tumor and then I will have surgery and finally radiotherapy. it feels like a very long and bumpy road ahead of me!

Hi
Just wondering if the one day event in London is still planned for early next year?
Thanks

Hi

Yes, the one day event that had to be postponed from June is still due to go ahead on Saturday 15 January 2011.

There is a 2 day London event if you want to come sooner, this is on 15/16 October 2010.

Best wishes
Leah
