I know what you mean, I've had a dressing on mine for the last 3 weeks and now that I haven't I'm scared of squashing it and making it bleed again. Although they have given me another spongy thing with a hole in it like I had at the beginning so hopefully that will protect it a bit.
I was about to reply saying "wow I can't believe you've had 27 operations" and then I noticed your second post where you had altered it to 7, although that is still a lot!
Good luck next week xx
Hi Amanda
I've been to the clinic this morning and my nipple is healing nicely and I don't need to have a dressing on it anymore. Just wanted to let you know that it is now a lot smaller than it was when I first had it done as I know you were worried that yours was really big. Let me know how you get on at your next appt.
Hi Amanda
I thought I would reply to your post as I wasn't sure if any of the other women would as it was 6 years ago. I had a mastectomy and LD flap reconstruction 7 weeks ago and had a nipple reconstruction at the same time. Mine was really big at first but it has gone down a lot now. When I had my dressings taken off I didn't have anything covering the nipple, just a square spongy thing with a hole in it to wear inside my bra. It was doing fine until the scabs started to fall off and then I noticed that it was bleeding slightly so I had to go to the clinic and have a dressing put back on. A week later it was still bleeding so my consultant put me on antibiotics and put a different type of dressing on it. When I saw her 3 days later it had stopped bleeding thank goodness and started to scab over again. That was last Friday. I still have a dressing on it and am due to go back to the clinic this Friday so I'm hoping I won't need a dressing on after that.
I'm sure that won't happen to your nipple, I just thought I would let you know about my experience. I'm pleased you posted as not many other women on this forum have had a nipple reconstruction I don't think. I was very pleased with my new nipple when I first saw it so I hope it still looks as good when I get to see it again!
