It's a couple of years since I had mine done so my memory is a bit hazy now, but basically they try to match your good nipple as much as possible. They will carefully mix the colour to get as good a colour match as possible, plus they will match the shape. I had a couple of appointments - they err on the side of caution on the basis that they can add to it if there is not enough but cannot take it away if they have done too much. They told me most tattoos take two to three appointments to get right. I think each time I was there for 30 minutes or so.
It is likely the tattoo will fade over time so I can go back in the future to have it topped up. So far I have not noticed any fading.
It really makes a difference to the appearance of the reconstruction, makes it much more realistic.
I am due to have a nipple tattoo on my reconstructed breast and nipple this Friday. Has anyone had this done? What does it involve? Do they tattoo both nipples? How long does it take? I have not been given any information from the hospital, just an appointment. I would appreciate any advice or information. Thanks
