Not sure what to think

Hi all, Just need a bit of advice really.Attended my GP at the end of July with lump in left breast, which I thought was associated with my menstrual cycle.GP thought it may be a cyst, but referred me to local clinic anyway.Had to wait 6 weeks for first appointment,so was beside myself with worry. The surgeon who saw me was extremely brusque and told me breasts felt normal. He arranged a non-urgent mammogram, and discharged me back to GP.Breast care nurse stated Mammogram apparently showed a ?cyst in right breast, not left.Apparently this is not that unusual.Anyway had ultrasound on left breast today.Doc would not scan both as she said mammogram did not show any abnormality in the left side. She seemed abit unsure if it was a cyst or not,but tried a fine needle aspirate. She was unable to aspirate any fluid, and advised I may need biopsy.I am now worried sick again, particularly as we are going on a family holiday in 10 days. Can anyone advise me if this sounds sinister or not? Many Thanks in anticipation,Jemima x
Also if I need any significant treatment I am considering asking for referral to specialist breast unit instead of local hospital. Can anyone tell me how to goabout this?

Hi there,

I’m so sorry you are having all this worry, you dont say how old you are, but I guess fairly young as you mention family which I guess includes children?? I’m 27 and been through this 2x and now commencing my 3rd attempt at torturing myself!!

If they could not aspirate it, then its not a cyst which is fluid filled. I’ve had 2 core biopsies and there really is nothing to worry about as far as that is concerned. They do this on solid lumps. They take some tissue, then grow it and see what happens to determine whether or not its cancerous. Thankfully for my previous 3 lumps (had 2 done in one go) were only Fibroadenoma, benign tumours.

The waiting is hell, I can tell you that much. I cant tell you whether or not if you have anything to worry about your results. The only think I can share, which is old news, 9 out of 10 lumps turn out to be non-cancerous. You will worry whatever anyone says, until you have those results in your hands. Its only natural, and depite me going through this for a 3rd time, I’m going to start getting worried when I have to wait for my results… though I’ll try my hardest not to.

I wish you the very best of luck, everything is crossed for you, please keep us posted on your progress.
