Re: November starters

Hopalong, don't fight the sleepiness. I've been suffering terrible insomnia (3 hours a night max) but after chemo Friday slept all afternoon, got up for dinner then slept 8pm through the night, on Saturday and Sunday too.... not so good last night but it shows that your body takes the sleep when it needs it. Just making enquiries about acupuncture as recommended by oncologist for the flushes. Husband out buying evening primrose oil. Hope you sleep tonight x

Re: November starters

Afternoon all,

trying to fight sleepiness, not mentally tired but eyes keep closing of their own free will. Didn't sleep well last night midnight - 2.30am 5 - 9am. on a plus note think i may have finaly cracked the nausea.

I think i have got the prize for longest chemo session yesterday, arrived for 10am appointment, called through just after 11. Cold cap put on at 11.30 but chemo not started till 1.30pm, then Hb dropped over last 3 sessions down to 8.7 so had a 2 unit blood transfusion that finished at 5.45pm meaning I left unit at 6pm. Official closing time 5pm.

After having had cold cap on for 4 1/2hrs in the afternooon, i was rather chilly so glad of my first 2 mini hot sweats when I got home last night doubt i'll be saying that when they kick in big style. I know you ladies are worrying about T but the T that i'm not looking forward to is Tamoxifen. Its worried me since diagnosis even more than the thought of chemo and makes me cry talking about.

Hope everyones side effects stay manageable xc

Re: November starters

Oh good luck sue. I've got my steroids ready for next time (23rd), nurse told me to take them first thing and lunchtime to try to avoid sleep disturbance.

I'm a terrible sleeper and even worse now with night sweats. Lorazepam and Nozinan helped me slept the first 4 nights after chemo but nausea subsiding so have to stop now. Nozinan made me really dizzy too so onc said to stop.

Hope all goes well tomorrow xxx

First T tomorrow so have just taken my first 4 steroids not sure how long I have to leave it before I take next four so will ring Lilac Centre to ask. Want to geet them down me asap so I get some sleep tonight, but have got Lorazepan so that should help. Will keep you all up todate how it goes,

Re: November starters

Hi, yes the nurses at my chemo centre said I probably won't be as sick with this one and my hair may start to grow back as it is the E in FEC that does the hair loss!! She didn't tell me what else was in store though, the October girls do seem to be suffering but I have spoken to some girls who got through it quite well with minimal se's so fingers crossed for us all. Positive thinking will get us there. Will keep you up to date with how I get on, with FEC I was sick within hours of finishing treatment so if I get anything I guess it will be the same this time.

Hopalong that sounds just too much. Pop round here if you've got any to spare! I've spent the day in bed or on the sofa. Sofa meant I had to socialise with fsmily so back to bed! Mrs grumpy today x

Re: November starters

Hi Hopalong.......I was like that yesterday and day before and have paid for it today, all I have managed to do is put bit of washing out. Spent day on sofa watching TV and browsing on here. Got a couple of lunch dates tomorrow and Tuesday so going for an early night and hope that I am for it. Not bounced back again after last FEC (3) usually improve daily from day 10 but this time I think I peeked at day 17. Think we just need to listen to our bodies, hate giving into fatigue but had to today.

Good luck to all having treatment this week.Sue x

Re: November starters

Hi, I think I may have peeked, and still so much to do before tomorrow. This afternoon I've packed Christmas away prepared cooked and frozen 8 meals. Have also done the accompanying washing up and put the bins out.
Yesterday I did 2 loads of washing and a supermarket sweep. Still got 2 beds to strip and remake lounge and bathroom to clean, as well as sorting out my chemo bag. I was supposed to be having an early night as need to leave house by 9.30 tomorrow morning. Might just give up now, as I'm sure this is not what the nurse ment when she told me to take it easy.

Re: November starters

Hi Waveylocks yes it certainly does make you appreciate everything more. I am just making the most of my good week before I go back on Wednesday for first Tax, not looking forward to the aches and pains that it brings reading some of the posts from October so roll on feb 18th which is my last one as long as I don't get any infections etc which delay it. But a small price to pay for chasing off the C.

Hope everyone is coping as well as possible and looking forward to good health x

Re: November starters

Happy New Year all,

I'm back home from my party. Glad those who had chemo over christmas are now starting to feel better. For those New Year ladies hang on in there. I'm another Emmend girl I call it my miracle drug and so far it has worked well with the addition of 5 days of max dose ondansetron and 2 weeks of cyclizine if needed, but havent used them after day 7.

Constipation wise I have laxido/movicol once a day 2 days before chemo then try to get 2 in on chemo day then continue to have 2 untill I "go" then back down to once a day for about a week then I seem to be allright again for 2 weeks. The antisickness certainly make matters worse along with reduced food intake and I know I sometimes wonder if I feel sick due to chemo or constipation another vicious circle of tablets to counteract the tablets.

Had pre chemo bloods done today all counts ok for chemo to go ahead next week blood count slightly low so may need a blood transfusion so watch this space, under chemo units orders to take it easy over weekend but thats not going to happen, Christmas to take down and house to get chemo ready.

Off now to calorie load fish & chips full fat coke and cream cake for tea as nothing in fridge etc untill do a proper shop tomorrow. Take care everyone xC

Re: November starters

Ooooh Sue that sounds tough! 😞 Poor you.
Yes they give me Emend for the first three days of each cycle but needed the other meds as well....lol. So good to feel better so am bombing around trying to do everything before the last/third cycle of FEC.....will be Doxitaxel & Herceptin after that. My older son has gone home -younger one goes back tomorrow -they've been brilliant & so supportive. 😀 bless them!!
Doing chemo makes you appreciate things far more & I fully intend to enjoy those moments/times when feeling well enough....grab life!!!
Hugs to all & hoping you are all well enough to grab those times too xxxx

Re: November starters

Hi Waveylocks, I was very sick after 1st Fec (every hour for 13hrs actually sick) then another 3 days of wretching and feeling sick. My Onc gave me adrug called Emend in addition to the others and it hepled loads. My Fec is done now so start T on 7th Jan which apparently does not cause as much sickness but I am sure something else will take it's place! I was advised to eat fresh pineapple for the horrible mouth symptoms as it is a natural cleanser and I found that really hepled with bowels as well as making mouth feel a little fresher. May be worth a try.

Good luck Sue x

But rather then that then being constantly nauseas couldn't lay down and close my eyes for tow days.....but those tab, eats are fantastic!

Hi Everyone -Happy New Year to all & here's a toast to successful smooth treatment!!
Am finally feeling better over round 2 -was a rough ride this time but good to know I have a week to have some fun!! 🙂 Doc gave me some horrid laxatives -wow they like so acid could hardly sit down!!! Anyone got any tips on good stuff for next round? Cycle 3 on 9th jan
So was well enough to enjoy New Years eve had a magical time out in the snow toasting the stars, dancing to music & lighting fireworks with my family.....wonderful 🙂
New central heating boiler being installed this Tuesday.....in the nick of time as current one sounds increasingly dodgy...lol They've promised to install in one day.....hope so need my heat!!!

Not got my wig though prescription to hand now....thank you for the info my hair loss is much reduced though in fairness there isn't a lot left so covered upwith pretty hats at the mo. 🙂 so the debate will be is it worth cold capping round three?
Big hugs to all and wishing you all minimal SE's xxx

Someone told me to keep imagining the C leaving my body and flying off to the moon..........best bloody place for it!!!

Morning everyone.....just want to wish you all a happy new year with lots of good health and a kick up the backside to the big C. Every year for the last five years I have said "I am glad to see the back of this year, the next one has got to be better" and it has been worse. Some B..........is trying to tip me over the top but I am fighting all the way as we all are. Reading some of the posts I feel quite lucky compared to some after the first 10 days follwing FEC I improve daily and am almost back to normal by day 14. That's today so I am off out for lunch soon and then again tonight for another meal with a friend. Making the most of it.....T...... starts 7th so will have to wait and see what that has in store. Love and best wishes to all. Sue x

Morning Codiesue welcome to our little group. I'm getting ready for number 4 after the new year, not changing regimes (must try to remember to ask why). Can't quite believe it's new years eve tomorrow have been invited to a party so fingers crossed I can make it. I've been in hibernation since Xmas eve eating lots to try and regain my weight and it's worked am now back up 3kg. I found yesterday frustrating had to wait in for district nurse to flush picc normaly arrives about 11 but yesterday didn't get here till 4. Wish I could pin them down to a specific time slot morning/afternoon and then I could at least do something. Will say bye for now as friend on her way to take me to lunch and will be doing more calorie loading. XC

Re: November starters

Hi Daffodilli and all the November girls, hope you have all had the best Christmas your SE's allowed. I am new to the forum, I started FEC T in early November so had last of FEC on 17th Dec I was very sick after first and was then given Amend which did help loads, however I still find for the first 9-10 days I am fit for nothing but then improve daily for the next 10 so make the most of it.

I am suffering with terrible catarrah at the back of my throat can anyone suggest a remedy? I am sure I wouldn't feel as sick if that cleared.

Got my first T on 7th January....got to admit feel very aprehensive after hearing a story from aquaintance who gave up after the 1st as SE were so awful but we all react differently and have spoken to a girl who had very few so fingers crossed for us all.

Merry Christmas everyone
Day 11 FEC 3 I'm feeling better parents on the way home now.
Tiredness not so debilitating I hope your sickness has eased waveylocks I am terribly sick and have diarrhoea with every fEC and it's awful so you have my full sympathy. This one I had amend steroids ondasetron domperidone and a syringe driver of cyclizine it helped a great deal so maybe ask for it.
Our challenge us to avoid any infections now. Take care all x

Re: November starters

Just ventured out of the house to collect a prescription, (organised by GP over the phone this morning) sick note and something for tea. The supermarket was more painless than the prescription. Was in and out of the supermarket like a ninja lots of parking spaces and no ques.

The medical stuff well there's a different story. Five people in front of me waiting to speak to receptionist, then there was nearly a punch up when someone in queue told someone being dealt with that they were taking too much time. Went through to chemist attached to surgery which I use as a last resort normally, to count 20 people waiting for drugs so decided to go elsewhere, to find next chemist was out of stock so back in car to drive 3 miles to next village with success. I think I would have cried if couldn't get it on 3rd attempt. (Its a Christmas just in case prescription for Nystatin if my claggy mouth doesn't improve to save me going to emergency Dr on Christmas Day)

I'm now exhausted can tell my counts are on the drop as walking round supermarket got out of breath, and even going up the stairs I get like that, plus having dizzy spells when get up too quick. Good job i'm going elsewhere for Christmas and can take it easy.  Just a bit of wrapping to finish now and i'm done. xC

Re: November starters

Hi Picklepants.....all my sympathy re the nausea sickness. I seem to be suffering more this time round & am taking double whammy of anti -sick meds but still very nauseas at night. Eating a lot of crystallised ginger which helps abit. Doc put me on even stronger anti sick meds but am already constipated so not sure whether to take the double strength. IF I do I'll need some serious laxatives!!! 😱 all a balancing act!!! Lol...
Anyway my red blood count is back up so out of hospital for Xmas!! Yippee😄😄 but am like a weak new born kitten!!!
This round of chemo is nothing like last time.... On a plus side been too poorly to go food shopping for xmas so sent my two grown up sons out to do it putting them in charge of cooking the dinner.....😄 think they are finding the experience a revelation. Te he!!!
Hugs to all xxxx

Next one on 7th January not sure if it will be FEC ot T yet. I will be starting herceptin with the Ti daren't look at the SE I feel all I can do is deal with what is in front of me now.
Hope you all have a lovely minimal SE Christmas xx

Re: November starters

Afternoon all, Hope everyone is well. I'm now day 8 cycle 3 and as previously its like someone has flicked a switch and the overwhelming tierdness and nausea have gone.

I am hopefully all sorted medically for the christmas period, had a physio session this morning and have been discharged with some additional exercises. I now have 99% shoulder movement and my cording has significantly reduced, the remaining cord is too deep to manipulate without risk of lymphoedema so only thing to do is keep up the exercises, and this afternoon I have had my PICC flushed and redressed.

Good luck with the chemo change Dianne my regieme is staying the same.

It was hairwash day over the weekend and I as predicted, do have a cold cap friar tuck hairdo.  I'm just bald in the centre at the top but still have a fringe, and plenty at the sides and back the hairloss also seemned less this week.

Wishing everyone minimal side effects for a good Christmas xC

Morning lovely ladies x
So sorry that I havnt been on here for such a while x
All ok I'm on day 12 .....3rd FEC and I must Just say this has to be the best one regarding SE ....first week like them all is the worse regarding Tireness and just not with it .
My sleep pattern has to be the worse SE for me as I wake throughout the night many times and struggle to get back off .....last night has to be the best sleep in a long time which Fingers crossed is one of many now !!!! I have be prescribed sleeping pills but I really don't want to use them. I always go to sleep ok but then I wake with brain overload ....but body is so exhausted I'm just too tired to sleep if that makes sense !!

My next chemo on the 30th is the first on of TAX I'm having three of this kind every three weeks like the FEC I'm nervous as I've been ok on FEC like I said it's been doable I've heard with Tax it effects the joints more has anyone heard anything else ???
Hope everyone is ok and SE under control

I've just discovered this lovely headwear site that specialize with chemotherapy ladies so beautifully made is a German company called Christineheadwear.com Trendco stock there range and will send you out there latest book well worth a look .....I have a wig but I don't feel confident in it its just not me so I've really found a new friend in these head wear designs just purchased a denim one and it looks fab !!!!!

Daffodil I did manage to get back to sleep eventually but sore throat and claggy mouth still present. This week has been frustrating for me sleep wise because as you all know I usually do well !!. Stopping at parents tonight so hope I don't wake at silly o'clock because I'll have the Spanish inquisition on why I'm awake.

Ooh that's good to know Daffodil....as you say most people have surgery first....they thought I was best to switch that round due to being grade 3, in lymphs & now Herceptin positive as well as Estrogen positive... Good they're on to it.
Waiting for call from Doc at hospital....been up all night after second lot of chemo yesterday....really nauseas & dizzy....started in hospital but nurse said it was the cold cap....wasn't!!! Dizziness stops if I keep my eyes open and sit up......or lay on right side for some bizarre reason. Luckily i have my two grown up sons staying with me to run around after me....bless em!
Will read through the other posts now......hope you all are doing ok with the second round of chemo.....brave warriors!!!!
