Re: October 2017 radiotherapy

Hi everybody,

Just to say thank you for flagging that spam with us, and I'm really sorry to hear it made you feel judged, zena75.

I've removed all the posts.

Take care,

Re: October 2017 radiotherapy

I've removed my posts of my own accord.
I want to add I have a first degree in counselling and psychotherapy so I'm talking from experience. just so you don't think I'm a crazy !
any way I'm starting 4 weeks of rads next week and was just reading about experiences to get me in the mood, and found that it was a police state on here ...

Re: October 2017 radiotherapy

I just have , but I still think that others will come on looking and maybe read that and feel judged .. a simple answer would be more appropriate..
I remember saying how I felt when judged on here, bc is bad enough with out those types of comments..
an answer could be .. we don’t know but other boards do have some discussions on this topic !!

Zena, that person is not a cancer victim, or survivor, but someone who came onto the forum simply to sell something, or to promote spam.  If you look at his/her post history you will see what we mean.

Re: October 2017 radiotherapy

Gosh I’m a bit fed up now .. I came on here for information and ideas through radiation which I start next week , and I find judgemental stuff .. not for the first time on this forum I may add .. maybe the moderators need to do a course in counselling and support as it’s about acceptance and understanding.. listening not personal opinions ... you can buy it in Holland and Barret

Re: October 2017 radiotherapy

Fiona, I feel for you.

It's starting to look more and more as if I won't be able to have the rads, as my wound is still very deep.  And a bit painful, and very depressing.  Currently 4cms deep.  I confess I am worried, because although I said I didn't want radiation, I had changed my mind, and having the option removed changes my whole outlook!

Re: October 2017 radiotherapy

Thank you Ladybowler, Debbie, Flyingarcher and Helzie.

Helzie - surgery was 19 July followed by further op (Debridement) on 16 August so all taking time as wound has been slow to heal.  Draining of the fluid was really painful and plastic surgeon said it was either a haematoma or necrotic tissue because if it is the later I think it will be further sugery.  Thanks for the tip about massaging the area but far too sore at the moment lol!!!!!!!!!

The other thing is that your rads team will be keeping an eye on how your skin is holding up and they will prescribe you dressings etc., if it looked as if the skin was breaking down.  I know with me my rads nurse gave me some polymem dressings which are used for when the skin breaks down but I used a piece of it to put over my nipple area as a means of helping to ease rubbing against my bra which really helped. xxx

Re: October 2017 radiotherapy

Debbie-You''re welcome.

Helena-Many thanks. All this sounds very reassuring. It's marvellous having someone who's been through this process already on board! Part of the 'anxiety' is caused by not knowing what to expect all in all. Gen have noticed small areas here and there feel mildly 'sore' every so often,  but it all appears to be only temporary, thankfully.

Fiona-Sorry to hear you're having this setback. Seroma plus infection? Can't have been nice having that fluid drained off. When was your surgery? I had mine on Sept 7th. Had a med size seroma around excision site area, which 'gradually 'dissipated' over time. At my follow-up appointment the surgeon advised massaging the area a few times a day, to enable the remaining fluid to be absorped. (I rem smirking at the time, when the thought of being seen by someone who was unaware of my surgery etc, crossed my mind Haha) It was one of the first things the rads onco checked at my pre-planning scan. Anyway, hope things are on the up for you and your rads go ahead as planned.

Take care,

Just keep doing what you are doing.  Drink plenty of fluids, moisturise and make sure you listen to your body, it will tell you when it is tired.  You are on the honward stretch now and we will be ringing the bells for you very soon.

I was the same, skin looked rather red and the area around the areola was itchy and tender but that was about it and I had 20 sessions (4 boosters) xx

Re: October 2017 radiotherapy

Hi

Things for me didn't improve over the weekend so I was back at the hospital today.  I had an ultrasound and 40mls of fluid drained from my breast.  I was examined again and have been given more antibiotics and some stronger painkillers with a follow up appointment on Monday.  If it hasn't improved by then I may need further surgery so fingers crossed the antibiotics do the trick in the next few days.

Re: October 2017 radiotherapy

Debbie-my (yearly mammograms are on the anniversary of my diagnosis.

How you all doing, ladies? Just completed Day 9 today and although I found last week (first full one) very tiring, I've found I'm more in the swing of things this week and so far, not as tired. I might change my mind about that on Friday though, as last one I was well and truly whacked!! So rested a lot this weekend. I've little doubt the daily commute much further away adds to this. Most session more or less on time but yesterday and today were 40 minutes late, as needed to deal with some hospital patients. Don't mind too much for myself but thinking about the friends who've driven me there.

Breast a bit tender today (internal) but fingers crossed so far skin appears to be holding up well. Noticed occasional redness around areola but nothing else apart from that. Was wondering what to expect frtom not on as have a daily session this week and 3 more next week? Anything I should be mindful of or plan ahead for? Like everyone else can't wait for this treatment to be well and truly over!!

Best of luck to all of you,

Debbie

As I understand it 12 months from diagnosis.  In my area it is 18 months from diagnosis as that is their protocol.  I was diagnosed in Sept last year, my oncologist clinic apt is April next year and my mammo should be for March but waiting for the apt to come through.

Maybe this isnt the thread to ask my question, but hopefully someone reading may advise.

When you have first yearly mammo, is it anniversary to diagnoses or  the date you had op.

Its just something i keep thinking about lately, wishing my life away and already worrying about that mammo.

Re: October 2017 radiotherapy

It must be an admin error, or meeting with consultant?

well done to all those who have finished.

Ooo, i managed to pisition myself perfectly on the 'bed' yesterday and today.  Gold star for me😄😄😄😄. The radiologist said people usually only manage it once and said I wouldn't do it again.  Ha!

They are all so lovely.  A couple of them are rather short and I do worry for them that essentially they are nose level with my nork.  Do then start wondering how they get on with all the prostate chaps.  That can't be fun for either party.  My bras are now covered with green and blue ink...

Re: October 2017 radiotherapy

Hi lady, im glad i spoke up, i got couple of areas that are, what they said are breaking down, so they gave me cream to put on those areas only, they said its totally normal and will get worse before better, i look hideous one scarlet boob one white ha ha.

Had some very graphic gentelman in waiting room today, and i gather his e45 cream isnt working, to much info, i was releived it was just my boob, i did feel sorry for him, and im sure he felt better having a rant.

Getting there light at the end of the tunnel, 4 to go.

Good luck everyone we can all do this xxx

Re: October 2017 radiotherapy

Another appointment has been rescheduled making my last session a day further on... grrrr, probably too early to plan a celebration day since it is being moved.  Feeling a bit better today despite this.  Need to query something tomorrow though as have had my other sessions changed again - a day off for this Thursday but also one day during the last week I have two appointments, one of which is the clinic one I already knew about but they have put two sessions on the next day, which means a total of 16 sessions instead of 15 so am a bit confused - hoping it is just an admin error as not been told about an extra one.

Oh dear littlefairy, hope your cold is not horrendous. I must admit I have also been eating rather too much of the medicinal chocolate but I wish I wasn't as piling on the pounds which just makes me feel more fed up. OK, what are the pretty pictures they do? I don't get those so I am a bit jealous!

Thanks so much for this reply Helena and the huggle is very welcome indeed! They should be on prescription! They did remember to check up on me again today - I went to the MacMillan Centre for a cuppa and a chat which helped. Travel was worse than ever today so I needed a break before coming back anyway. xx

Cant help you on that I cant remember feeling sick, I did however have spells of feeling giddy but put that down to dehydration and the effects of going back and forward to the hospital.

It is not unusual to feel low at this time, it is the effect of the rads and the constant to and froing,

Sending you a hug

Re: October 2017 radiotherapy

Hi

felt poorly today.  Generally grotty and feelng sick.  Managed to drive to rads and just back.  Have been drinking water all day.  Does or did anyone else feel like they are walking through treacle and feel a bit sick?

mood a bit low today to.  Bit of thoughts of 'what if it comes back' etc, etc.  Lots of obviously really ill people including one poor chap who came out with a very bright red throat area.  His wife had been talking hospices to another lady.
