Re: PICC or Port

Hi butterfly I've answers this to you somewhere else but just for the benefit of anyone else wondering....

I had a port and highly recommend it, you can have it put in under a general or a local. I had a local.

Once the wound has healed there is little chance of infection and no faffing with covers in the shower and no weekly appointments to have it flushed. My mum is a retired theatre nurse & knew the vascular surgeon that inserts the portacath - he said if it was his loved one, it's what he'd recommend - best of luck with whatever you choose x

Re: PICC or Port

Get a PICC - I had one and they are much easier to insert. You have to get them cleaned every week to 10 days but they make all your treatments really easy. You soon get used to them.

I would recommend PICC covers from Live better with cancer web site.

You will also need a waterproof one for bath/showers but you can get a prescription from the GP for that.

PICC or Port

Have been told today I need a central access as my veins are not playing ball. Does anyone have any advice or experience with a PICC or a Port? Waiting list for a Port might be longer so may have to start with a PICC, will find out tomorrow. Thanks ladies. Xx
