Parenchymal Patterns anyone??

Parenchymal Patterns anyone??

Parenchymal Patterns anyone?? I have just had my first mammogram following breast cancer last year. It was all clear but on the report it says that there remains a moderately dence background parenchymal pattern followed by an M2.

Has anyone got a clue what that means.

Thanks.

Caroline

parenchymal patterns Parenchymal pattern is just a way the radiologists describe breast tissue. before the breast screening program all mammos were reported this way.
The grading letter changes with different centres but I would interpret anything with a 2 as benign.
Basically they are saying that you have dense breast tissue which is not uncommon in pre menopausal women.
Hope this puts your mind at rest

Thanks Many thanks for that Jakey, feel much better now.

Hi Caroline I’m the same as you!

M1 = Normal
M2 = Benign
M3 = Equivocal
M4 = Suspicious
M5 = Malignant
