I had mx without recon almost 4 weeks ago and am struggling to find a swimsuit. Ive tried ones from the specialist shops, the ones with pockets in, but the majority are too low necked. I have a big dip in the top part of my chest high up. Doesnt everyone have this? I assume its because the breast tissue goes high up so thats how high they have to remove. Why do they sell post surgery swimsuits with a lowish/med neckline if everyone has this dip?
Yes, I have a dip in my chest high up because of a mastectomy without reconstruction 5 years ago. I have had to make quite a few adjustments to my wardrobe and grieved for the clothes I had to throw out because I no longer felt comfortable wearing them because of neckline issues or my scar showing around the armpit area.
I too find that many of the strappy tops and swimsuits sold for mastectomy patients are not suitable for me because of the dip in my chest. I bought a tankini from Nicola Jane which has a higher neckline, adjustable straps and I feel comfortable and more confident wearing it.
Another little tip… for day-wear I have bought a big range of strappy tops in different colours from Primark. These have adjustable straps and fit well over my pocketed bras. They offer more coverage so I wear them underneath shirts and low cut t-shirts and tops.
