Hi.
I am off to Center Parcs in 2 weeks time and was looking at their treatments. They too say no spa treatments following cancer diagnosis but at least they tell you on the web site. I can't remember if it was for 2 or 3 years so I have justed booked in for a manicure and pedicure. Not sure what they will be able to do with my nails though as they are in quite a state following the chemo and on going effects of Anastrozole, lol.
My husband and I went for a very enjoyable session at the Thermae Spa in Bath. This is the new building in the centre of Bath with pools fed from the natural mineral hot springs of Bath. It was very pleasant and relaxing to float about in the Minerva pool and then the rooftop pool as the sun set. I went into the scented steam rooms but only briefly - this would not suit everybody on these forums. We took the Twighlight Package. £45 for 1 person or £85 for two peope for 3 hours. Included were also a one-course meal and glass of wine or other drink, loan of towel, robe and slippers. The restaurant food was light and appetising and the service was good. It was a little bit cold sitting there in the wet robe, so maybe worth drying off and putting on an extra layer before you get in there.
OK, we didn't book for any massages or treatments but they do quite a variety, so if you were considering it you could ask if it would be suitable before booking. For treatments they do ask people with health conditions to declare them, and may require a doctor's letter. But just to go in the pools and restaurant, they did not ask for any declaration.
We stayed in a small guest house, and enjoyed walks around the parks and streets, and had some nice meals out and visited a few museums. Only thing I would say is that Bath prices are rather expensive for pretty much everything, pretty much everything is high quality. But the Thermae itself was a lovely experience, which I would call good value for money.
For the record, I had had a WLE and SLNB last year followed by radiotherapy, no chemo, no significant side effects. Next day after the spa session I felt tired, relaxed and also energised. Ate a good breakfast then walked about for most of the day! Husband enjoyed the evening too.
It seems totally over the top to me, cant have a facial, i give myself one every week.! Having cancer is bad enough without this kind of discrimination. I was just thinking other day id love to have a spa day once my rads over, Now seems impossible., Wonder if the Breast cancer care site could come up with a list of spas etc, that do allow people to have it. The compensation culture has a lot to answer for.As if many having to lose their hair etc, isnt bad enough to make people feel unfeminine this just seems ridiculous. and the last thing people need, june
Hello
I completed all my bc treatments in December and am now feeling much better, though still with fatigue, hot flushes and an uncomfortable shoulder from surgery but definitley stacks better than before Xmas. I've just returned from a disappointing spa day because the major hotel chain have a health policy (not advertised on their website) which says no treatments apart from a nail shape and polish for 5 years after a cancer diagnosis! I feel this is rather extreme as I would have been happy to sign a disclaimer for a facial - its not like I wanted an arm massage or anything! So this is just a warning to anyone who feels they deserve a pampering day that you need to check out the health restriction policy before booking.
