Re: Pregnant and diagnosed today

Thank you soooooo much. I needed that. I hope you're still well. Xx

Re: Pregnant and diagnosed today

Hi,
I haven't been on this forum for a long time but just happened to be browsing tonight and I saw this thread. I was diagnosed with bc at 13 weeks pregnant. I had chemo throughout my pregnancy and I gave birth to my daughter at 31 weeks. She weighed 3lb 3 oz and she is now a healthy 3.5 year old. I just wanted to give you some hope because I remember the horror when I was first diagnosed. I also had a 1 and 2 year old at the time.

Re: Pregnant and diagnosed today

Hi Cass, glad your op is over. The waiting is horrible, but it will go quickly, you have lots to keep you going with a 3 year old. But make sure you get plenty of rest when you can., I have been crossing days off on my calendar since Feb and looking back it has gone quickly (needing a new sick note now, I've been off 6 weeks!) Sending hugs xxxxx

Re: Pregnant and diagnosed today

Bless your heart, that is so sweet of you, you will never be far from my thoughts so please keep in touch, I will have an extra Gin for you tonight! Thankfully I don't have to work tomorrow 😉 xx

Re: Pregnant and diagnosed today

Ah Jo I'm thrilled for you, if I could have alcohol I'd raise a glass to you. Xx

Re: Pregnant and diagnosed today

Hi cass,
I had the best news today, all removed and no spread to nodes, turned out to be a 4mm area and not 11 as I was originally told so even better news, and all grade 1, I walked in practically heaving with nerves but they were just lovely and put me out of my misery instantly, both me and my husband were in tears, I was expecting so much worse and feel so lucky that things were caught so early, I will be having radiotheraphy and have been put on Tamoxifen, tonight will be plenty of celebrating In our house after the stress of the past couple of months, I feel like I can breath again finally!
I know you are going through the awful waiting period now and can whole heartedly tell you I feel every ounce of it with it as its bloody horrific but there is nothing you can do other than wait, it's so easy to let your mind run away with you, mine has been missing in action for weeks but you do cope and you deal with it, please feel free to message me anytime if you need to talk or vent, your results day will soon come around and once you know what your dealing with things are easier. Love Jo Xx

Re: Pregnant and diagnosed today

How did it go Jo? Xx

Re: Pregnant and diagnosed today

Well done Cass, it's a big relief to have the op over with, I'm 13 days post op and off for my results this afternoon so although I'm glad the day is here Im a bundle of nerves and still sat in bed , hubby says he will crow bar me out if he has to! He may have to carry me in as Im shaking so much, silly really as I know I've got BC and what grade from biopsy but Im sick of going to the breast clinic, I've had so many messages today wishing me luck and love that I've wanted to sling my phone out the window! I know everyone means well but I just wanted to be left alone to wallow, hopefully will be back on later feeling lighter hearted and posting some positive news fingers crossed, love Jo xx

Re: Pregnant and diagnosed today

Hi Cass, glad op is done for you. I know I felt glad to be rid of the cancer when I had my op last Wed. A week on and I feel good, painful underarm and tired but probably because I'm doing too much!! How long before you get your results, my appointment is 23rd which seems ages but used to waiting now!! Take care of yourself xxxx

Re: Pregnant and diagnosed today

Thank you lovely people. I'm sore and tired but at least that horrible tumour is out now. And so the long wait for results begins... xx

Re: Pregnant and diagnosed today

Hi Cass, I'm so sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I think I may be able to help you a little. There is a brilliant charity called Mummy's Star for women diagnosed with any kind if cancer whilst pregnant. They give emotional support, information, small grants and have closed chat forums to help you find others in your position. I addition, I run a young women's support network on Facebook. There's over 1500 members in our private chat network now. We have a designated group for dx during pregnancy and there are lots of lovely photos of mums and babies who went thru chemo /surgery whilst pregnant and who are very much alive to tell the tale. There is loads of advice and support in there and the ladies are lovely. Breast cancer care have an info sheet for women in your position and if you read it, it recommends us and tells you how to find us. Here's the link, and all the very best. Women and babies DO get through this ok xxxxx

Re: Pregnant and diagnosed today

you moan away...we all do. Sending big hugs x

Re: Pregnant and diagnosed today

Thank you. I'm having a bit of a down day today, I'm a bit worried about the surgery on Tuesday and how the baby will cope with it. For the first time today I wished could have a glass (or five) of wine. I didn't of course. I've also got a cold and a very sore throat and have been having a bit of a worry that the surgery will be delayed! Urgh.

Anyway how are you doing? Sorry for the moan. Xx

Re: Pregnant and diagnosed today

How u doing Cass? Just checking in x

Re: Pregnant and diagnosed today

Hi Ros,

A mumsy talk is fine! Unless I need all nodes removed during surgery it's apparently unlikely I'll need a drain but thanks for the advice. My mind is in a spin, I'm just thankful that I can go ahead with my pregnancy and this baby will be all the more cherished at the end of all of this. I'm finding it so hard to express how I'm feeling, but it's not even been a week since my diagnosis so I guess that's normal. I really appreciate your reply, it helps me feel less of a freak to hear from others who know what it's like. Oh, and I had a c section too so totally get the lack of mollycoddling!

Re: Pregnant and diagnosed today

Hi Cazz

I am far from pregnant though podgy enough  to pass for a good 7 months.

I can hardly imagine what you must be feeling.

Your life will be turned upside down and you know that. This reminds me of when I had a caesarean and a friend of mine had a hysterectomy both on the same day. For 6 weeks she wasn't allowed to do much more than lift a kettle where I was at home with a 10lb baby! It felt very odd - unfair almost as she was being mollicoddled and I was having to get on with it. Hardly the same as i said can hardly imagine.

I am making a huge assumption that you might feel the same once your wonderful little one is here and you are fighting this b****r. You will hear people telling you to take it easy but you will have 2 little people dependent on you so will probably want to be super mum. Well be super Mum but don't be everything else that goes with it.

On a serious note though if you have a drain fitted explain to your little one that they need to watch Mummy's side. I ended up with my drain caught on a friends over friendly cat (nearly launched said cat through window) and am sure a loving little one might be similarly unintentional.

sorry for the Mumsie lecture

huge hugs and masses of virtual love

Ros

Re: Pregnant and diagnosed today

Hi cass - you will probably be given a follow up appointment for the following week where they will discuss the ultrasound and mammogram - they might check the mammogram same day with an ultrasound specialist who might want to do biopsy - don't worry about these ...xxx hugs again xxx

Re: Pregnant and diagnosed today

Mammogram may give them a much clearer picture of what is going on. I wouldn't say they are specifically looking for more lumps although they would see them if they were there. I would say they just want a clearer picture of what's going on. Here they did my mammogram and ultrasound at the same time. I did have my mammogram first then in to the ultrasound so the man who did the ultrasound was looking at the mammogram too. I am not sure if you will have someone look at it then if you aren't seeing the ultrasound man too.

Re: Pregnant and diagnosed today

Thank you. I've had no response yet from the younger women's section so I really appreciate your reply. So maybe tomorrow they're looking for more lumps etc? Do they tell you at the mammogram if they can see anything? Xx

Re: Pregnant and diagnosed today

The bc journey is a real roller coaster and the start is by far the worst bit as you wait for all the tests/appointments to be scheduled but believe me it does get better when you have your treatment plan and know what will happen and approx when.

I had ultrasound, mammogram and biopsy which confirmed the bc and also spread to lymph nodes. Subsequently I've had ct, bone and mri scans but not sure if they will do any of those for you given you're pregnant.

Your breast care nurse (BCN) will become you new best friend as she will be your first point of contact for any clinical questions and will have access to your records and test results and often easiest to get hold of from your medical team.

Please feel free to ask any questions here too but I presume you will have more pregnancy related answers from the younger women thread xx

Re: Pregnant and diagnosed today

Thanks so much. I keep going from feeling really positive to bursting into tears...although some of that might be pregnancy hormones! I've been given an appointment for a mammogram on Monday but I'm not really sure what for, maybe to look for other suspicious areas? I only had an ultrasound before. Xx

Re: Pregnant and diagnosed today

Hi Cass, so sorry you have joined this club and especially whilst pregnant. You are in very good company here as the ladies are a wealth of knowledge and very supportive so pls feel free to ask questions, air feelings or just rant. We've all been there.

I wasn't pregnant when diagnosed but a friend of a friend was 20 weeks she got the news. She was induced at 35 weeks and started chemo 2 weeks later. Now a year later she has finished all her treatments and is getting on with her life with 2 gorgeous kids and very supportive family.
hugs xx

Re: Pregnant and diagnosed today

Hi cass x no experience with this but just wanted to send you a virtual hug xxx please try to take some reassurance that your clinical team will be monitoring you very carefully and you will be in good hands xxxx you might also have some other people who have been through this on younger women with breast cancer forums ( I'm 45 so at the top end!) - there is a local group to me and whilst I haven't been as an having chemo they seem very supportive xxx hugs xx

Pregnant and diagnosed today

Hi all,

I am almost 13 weeks pregnant and was diagnosed today with grade 3 invasive ductal breast cancer (the tumour is 2 cm). I've been scheduled for surgery in a couple of weeks once they're happy that I'm far enough into my pregnancy so the general anaesthetic won't harm my baby. I feel in a daze and I wondered if anyone else is going through breast cancer while pregnant? I also have  a 3 year old daughter.

Cass xx
