Re: Private treatment next week

Hi Jessica I am receiving chemo at the LOC also my first chemo will be on the 12 December. I also had IDC Grade 2. I am having 8 lots of chemo 4 AC and 4 TEX? (not sure on spelling) then more surgery (lymph node removal) and radiation oh and 10 years Tamoxifen as cancer was very ES+. How are you getting on with your sessions there? I also felt the pods were very isolated, quite hostile, anyway booked now so just have to get on with it.

Thanks Rexi. So sorry to hear about the recurrence, fingers crossed it does the trick in January!! I think I 'll bring a trashy book to read and should be ok 🙂

Re: Private treatment next week

Hi Jessica,
I am not at the LOC, but have seen these pods at the London Bridge Hospital when visiting a friend going through chemo again. I had my chemo in 2011 at LBH and it was an open space with privacy curtains if wished. Recently they installed this bright white pods, which yes give you privacy but are so isolating.
Just looked up the LOC and the pod pics there are the same as LBH.
I have had local recurrence and will go on the chemo trip again in January. I must admit, those pods are not going to make it easier. To much of a hospital look.
I have heard from staff that many patients have commented that they don't like them. Not sure who thought this was a good idea. If some patients want this level of privacy they should have added some pods, not provide pods only.
Mini-rant over.
Re friendly faces - the staff are really nice there I am sure. They are always trying to make the experience as pleasant as possible.
If you can't get a friend to tag along, I would recommend a good book or an iPad with some entertainment - games or movie, to keep your mind busy during the waiting sequences. At LBH they have tellys in the pods too, not sure about LOC.

Good luck !

Private treatment next week

Hi all-

I'm starting 4x TC (and maybe Herceptin) next week at the LOC in London. While private healthcare is good in a lot of ways, I am a little disappointed that they give you your own pod for the duration of administering chemo drugs. I am going alone for my first one and wish it was a little more community-oriented to share experiences/ provide moral support. Will any friendly faces be there next Wednesday? 🙂
