Hi Jessica,
I am not at the LOC, but have seen these pods at the London Bridge Hospital when visiting a friend going through chemo again. I had my chemo in 2011 at LBH and it was an open space with privacy curtains if wished. Recently they installed this bright white pods, which yes give you privacy but are so isolating.
Just looked up the LOC and the pod pics there are the same as LBH.
I have had local recurrence and will go on the chemo trip again in January. I must admit, those pods are not going to make it easier. To much of a hospital look.
I have heard from staff that many patients have commented that they don't like them. Not sure who thought this was a good idea. If some patients want this level of privacy they should have added some pods, not provide pods only.
Mini-rant over.
Re friendly faces - the staff are really nice there I am sure. They are always trying to make the experience as pleasant as possible.
If you can't get a friend to tag along, I would recommend a good book or an iPad with some entertainment - games or movie, to keep your mind busy during the waiting sequences. At LBH they have tellys in the pods too, not sure about LOC.
Good luck !
