Re: RECOMMENDATIONS PLEASE URGENTLY

Hi all,

Just a quick reminder that when talking about hospitals it's okay to name the hospital but please remember that it is against BCC's Community Guidelines to name any professionals on the open forums, even just initials is not allowed. I've put the link to Community Guidelines for reference.

Re: RECOMMENDATIONS PLEASE URGENTLY

I have been under the care of Charing Cross for chemo, but had my surgery and have both my surgical and onc follow-ups at my local (Ealing) hospital. My surgeon, did an excellent job and the scars are barely visible, just 9 months later. That said, part of me wishes I'd taken my GP's advice and asked to be referred to the Marsden. I found my lump while in Ealing hosp for an unrelated matter, so didn't go through the usual route for referral, via GP. I didn't really feel I had a choice of treatment centre as they jumped on my cancer sharpish at Ealing.
Charing Cross sometimes gets bad reviews; I can't really fault them, just feel I might have been even better off at the Marsden.
Good luck with wherever you choose.

Re: RECOMMENDATIONS PLEASE URGENTLY

I transferred to the Marsden in Chelsea from my hospital in Brighton (where I had a bit of a crap experience) and they've been brilliant.

I have been treated at the Marsden in Sutton (with a few outpatient appointments at the London marsden). I have had brilliant treatment - mx with immediate DIEP recon, chemo and 3 weeks ago nipple recon. I have also had acupuncture for pain in my feet from side effects of Letrozole. The staff are all lovely and although busy I have never felt rushed at appointments. The NHS at its best.

I have my treatment at Royal Marsden ( Sutton), I transferred there after receiving 2nd rate treatment locally. Cannot praise them enough, have been both an in and out patient and the staff are all wonderful even though overworked at times as with all NHS hospitals. Still have faith in the NHS !!

Re: RECOMMENDATIONS PLEASE URGENTLY

I recommend Charing Cross without reservation. I was admitted in December as a total wreck through A&E, not knowing what was wrong...I needed the expertise of the neurosurgeons. The nursing care was fantastic and the oncologists are world class with trials ongoing. The Marsden did not have a bed at the time, but I am so grateful to Charing X for getting me back up on my feet again. A very caring place with experts who know what they are doing.

I believe in London the centre of excellence is the Marsden, it also has lots of trials on going.x

Hi hippowoody my sister has been under the care of Charing Cross For the last 12 years and they have been excellent and really look after her. Myself,I am with Royal Surrey in Guildford - again they are excellent and have looked after me fantastically. (for oncology and some procedures) and for plastics /reconstruction I would have no hesitation in referring Queen Victoria in East Grinstead who are an exceptional bunch of people.Thank goodness for the NHS.

Re: RECOMMENDATIONS PLEASE URGENTLY

Hi hippowoody

I'm treated at Charing Cross in Hammersmith and they have been generally excellent.

University College Hospital is in central London and has a big purpose built cancer centre-for me it looked a bit impersonal but I beleive they are a centre of excellence for some cancers such as lymphoma's.

I know the Marsden is also very good-they have 2 centres in Sutton and Chelsea. They also provide all services (apart from emergency ie A and E) in the same premises which should help with continuity of care/communication between departments.

Good luck
