Re: Recently diagnosed

Hi, thanks Sharon, got a bit weepy last night and went to bed at 8pm hence up at 4am! Cazz hope all goes well today, big hugs x.
Beryl, I can't remember them using local an atheistic with the SNB but they must have done but it was horrendously painful thankfully the node was dectected after only one injection, not sure I could have dealt with another and I generally have a high pain threshold...years of being in the fire service!! 😄😄Only had one painkiller so far and that for my locked jaw!!!

Re: Recently diagnosed

O judi, it just bites doesnt it.

My surgeon said he was sorry I would need chemo,  but on the other hand herceptin targets her2+so well it was almost good news. Xxx he was slightly embarrassed but said herceptin is the wonder drug,  sadly its only licensed for use with chemo. Booo.

I figure lets Nuke this thing and go home.

I think my worst moment was when I realised it would take so much time to go through all the treatments.  But now I just want to get on with it.

We can get there,  its just going to need more than sticky plasters and butterfly kisses.

Xxx so many hugs. Xxx

O the driving thing,  considering I've sat around and eaten fruit cake for 3 weeks best I move my wobbly (anyone else? ) legs and not drive for a bit longer , lol

Hi judi x damn xxx you will get through this though xxx hugs x sarah

Re: Recently diagnosed

Me too Sharon...it just seems to be constantly on my mind every minute of the day.
I'm trying really hard to be positive and keep things as 'normal' as humanly possible for myself and daughter...of course I have bad days and expect I'll have plenty more of those, but need to stay strong for my own sake. When I got diagnosed it felt like my whole world had fallen apart, and I really didn't think I would be so 'together' about it all.😊Xxx

Re: Recently diagnosed

Rachel I was thinking that just this morning - I had no idea just how much hard work it is to deal with cancer! I sort of knew about the hospital appts and treatments, but all the running around organising stuff and checking day to day things is just exhausting isn't it.  So glad to hear you sounding cheerful though

x

Re: Recently diagnosed

Lol Sandie....you done well driving so soon!I think I prob could of driven last week, but am still a little tender.Did you have your Mascetomy on your Right too ?X
When does your Chemo start?
I'm def going to having Chemo, been told that already,I'm guessing that must mean I'm triple Neg,but it's all so flipping complicated !
I just want it all gone and to be back to normal..whatever they do.It just takes over your life doesn't it?

Re: Recently diagnosed

Hi Cheryl, yay, it's over! Huge great step along the way and must be such a relief.  Hope you can relax for a while now and heal quickly. I'm always faintly amazed by how quickly they get us 'done' and home again but thank heavens they can, as I like that a whole lot better than having to stay in hospital for too long.

Judi, I'm so sorry your results weren't completely clear and you'll need chemo, hopefully it won't need to be too aggresive though as it is just one area/node that had some cancer cells?  That said the prospect of any form of chemo is terrifying I know.

Cazz, totally understand the fear and wish you the best for tomorrow, will be watching the boards for an update.

love to you all

x

Sharon

Re: Recently diagnosed

Awwww Judi...I'm sorry lovely...big hugsX

Re: Recently diagnosed

Hi Sarah...it was actually ok😊,it's my right side,so apart from a bit of soft steering,I could safely drive .I shall take it easy though over the next few weeks...carry on walking and catching trains etc,it's certainly saved me petrol money!Xx

Re: Recently diagnosed

Hi lovelies, thinking of you all with your surgeries, its frightening to imagine and I reckon half the reason I feel Awesome now is because I was secretly convinced I wouldnt make it.  Which was clearly hysterical brain thinking..... easy to know now, at the time much harder. They,  them, the medical folk with all their checks and tests Know it will be fine or they just wouldnt do it. Xxxx I think they're a bit competitive and would be terrible losers at scrabble.  😉

Im interested in the driving thing too. Two weeks after my mastectomy I drove everyone home from new years eve party ( 2am , Hilarious as a sober person). I found it uncomfortable, easy enough on long sweeping country roads,  but am still reluctant to drive round town.  Having an automatic became a real plus for once.

The bumps on the road are jarring and I found myself driving with one hand on my chest.

Of course its just occured to me I should ring my insurance company and check if Im allowed to...doh!

Fortunately it will be 6 weeks by the time the children go back to school after summer holidays, as we are rural and theres no bus to our house. Im dreading having to organise transport when chemo starts.

Lots of people have said they ll help but just getting children ready on time is a major drama in my house. Lol

Sorry wandering.

Sending you all love. Xxx

Hi Rachel - how did the drive go btw?  I'm in the sticks and will be desperate to drive but have heard differing things from 2/3 weeks up to 6 also depends on insurance etc....

Re: Recently diagnosed

Thank you Rachel. Of the 2 people I know personally both had similar experiences to you, one who had lumpectomy 20 years ago found her mastectomy a much easier ride 5 years ago, & the other sailed through hers last year. Perhaps its just because i can't picture myself sat here post-op that I am so worried? Although I am a very strong person I do tend to be pessimistic, hoping that nothing will be as bad as i imagine?
Good luck with the driving, let us know how it goes! Are you having any further treatment? Cazz x

Re: Recently diagnosed

Great News Chez. Sounds like a fab anaesthetist. I can't fault our NHS staff. Why was your SNB dreadful? Was it not done under anaesthetic? Now lots of rest and tlc. xx

Re: Recently diagnosed

Left side mastectomy & full node clearance tomorrow as have two areas, 5mm & 7mm, of lobular. No indications of spread to nodes but obviously won't know for sure until results. Just shaking with nerves today, got loads to do but cannot concentrate on anything. Spoken to friends who have both had mastectomy & feel more reassured about that but it's not coming through the op that Is playing on my mind the most, so scared of leaving my family. Is this normal? Not sure I can do this just want to run away 😥

Re: Recently diagnosed

Hi All, it's done, the blighter is out and I came last night. Had SNB which was dreadful, WLE and then lumpectomy, was longer in recovery than theatre and my jaw in left side has locked up!!! Otherwise no painkillers since 5pm and whilst did. It sleep well feel surprisingly bright. My anaesthetist was just fabulous, because of my stroke I was getting myself into a right state about another one and I was finding it hard to get any information from anyone, but he spent 40 mins with me, talked candidly about the risks and his track record and was just brilliant. He came to see me afterwards to check his track record was in tact and I was mega pleased to tell him it was😄😄😄😄😄😄😄. Thanks for all your pearls and messages, they really do mean a lot. Am going to have a nap now but hope Judi your results are good today, pleased to hear that haven are helping Mattt and hope you are doing okay rachel, much love x x

Re: Recently diagnosed

Re: Recently diagnosed

Beryl, it must be a relief knowing things are happening. Write down a list of your questions and concerns for your meeting with your BCN Much better than thinking of them later. Best of luck xx

Re: Recently diagnosed

I'd heard of Haven and know a couple of people who've used them and say they are great so I'll be going along to the London one as soon as I get my final diagnosis and know what's ahead.  Hope they can help all of you too ladies, totally agree that we should take advantage of any and all help that is available, no point suffering if we don't have to is there 🙂

Re: Recently diagnosed

It sounds wonderful:)...I would love to go too,but bit further for me,probably about an hour by car and 2 hours by train...I will definatley look at them online and maybe give them a call.

Isnt it lovely that these charities exist for us to use:)xx

Re: Recently diagnosed

Nearest Haven to me is Hereford - just a 30 min train journey, was advised not to attempt to park there. Also they have offered me massage and reflexology + 4 counselling sessions.

When I went for first interview it was lovely,

They offer prosthesis fitting, bra fitting, diet help and all those other little things as well - and a phone line.

Anyone else there is one in Leeds and one in London as well

Haven is a breast cancer charity

Re: Recently diagnosed

Hello ladies...xx
