Reconstruction After Lumpectomy

Hi Ladies,

I had a lumpectomy for a small tumour about a month ago and I’m unhappy with the look of the breast, it looked pretty good for the first few weeks after as it was swollen but now the swelling has gone down I’m left with quite a dip in the breast. Has anyone had this kind of thing fixed and will the NHS do it?? It’s really getting my down.

thanks Audrey x

My surgeon has said she will put me right after all the treatment. I have had a lumpectomy and they had to remove the nipple too.

That said I might not want to go through any more than I have to but the offer is there. I suppose it depends on how old you are and if your sex life and appearance are a huge priority. I had a scare when I was in my twenties and then I would rather have died than be “disfigured”. I was terrified that my husband would go off me. It turned out to be nothing but a blocked milk duct following breast feeding. I am older and wiser now and if he did go off me then I would be better off without him. Thankfully he is very supportive.

I would let them know that you would like to be evened up and they have NHS surgeons doing reconstructive surgery all the time, so I doubt it would be a problem.
