Reconstruction with implant after radiotherapy

Re: Reconstruction with implant after radiotherapy

I had mx first followed by chemo. Expander put in before rads. I was told you can't have an expander after rads as the skin tightens and gets too thin to be expanded. My surgeon made the boob bigger than necessary so that there is more skin when she comes to change it for perm implant.

Re: Reconstruction with implant after radiotherapy

Many thanks for getting back to me. There seems to be so many conflicting views among the professionals as to the best way to proceed. I've been advised that I would have to have mx before rads. It's such a big decision I want to make sure I'm as well Informed as I can be . I hope everything has been succesful with you re your surgery x

Re: Reconstruction with implant after radiotherapy

Hi there. I didn't go through the same as you but i had a bi-lateral mastectomy, then expanders and finally radiotherapy. They told me this was not the ideal situation but it had to be done. The ideal situation would be delayed reconstruction until your radiotherapy has finished, then start the reconstruction with expanders.

I hope everything is doing ok and you are positive?

Many blessings and love

Reconstruction with implant after radiotherapy

Hello
I am coming to the end of chemo and I am now looking to my next surgery. I have decided that a mx is the right decision for me. I am looking at a delayed reconstruction, with an expander , then implant, but only after I have had radiotherapy. Has anyone else been through this process who can share their experiences.
Many thanks
