Hi Ladies
I’m due the results tomorrow from my WLE & SNB however, I noticed over the past few days that my boob was starting to get a little heavier.
I went to see my BCN today and she has said that I have mild lymphodema in my boob! She said that usually it appears in the armpit, similar to a golf ball and that it was strange to see it in my bood.
She advised that my ONC may drain it with a needle tomorrow or I may be referred to the lymphodema specialist.
Are there any other ladies who have experienced lymphodema in their breast after and op - Did it go away or has it got worse.

Hi Martha ,I had this after my first op.I phoned my bcn and she explained to me what it was.I had a second op and it wasn’t there when I woke up so they must have drained it at the same time.Good luck for tomorrow.I get my results tomorrow as well.take care meggy x
Lymphedema can be in the chest and or the arm after breast surgery with ANC.
Lymphedema is fluid within the tissues though, not a discreet collection, so as such it is not possible to “drain” it surgically as one can a seroma for instance.
If lymphedema is treated early it is possible to reduce it with compression and or lymph drainage techniques, and also it tends to go up and down a bit with activity.

Morwenna - The BCN said my onc could do it with a needle and just drain it. I’ll see what happens tomorrow, but there is definitely fluid in the breast. Perhaps I’m just a rare breed lol.

I’ll see what my onc says tomorrow. It actually feels like the whole breast is filled with fluid although it’s not firm, more squishy. I had a WLE and not a MX so that may be why it isn’t in the chest . Perhaps the BCN was wrong - Anyway, I’ll let you all know tomorrow.

It’s probably a seroma. That’s normal and doesn’t need draining unless its really uncomfortable. It actually helps to get a more normal shape after a lumpectomy
I had this after my WLE and SNB, I choose to leave it and has now been re absorbed x

I got Lymphodema in my breast after wle , it started in the arm and then my breast , my breast was quite red still is pink and thats 15 months down the line, its heavier & fuller than other breast sometimes it feels a little hotter too but been checked for infection , theres not much you can do in the breast area they can strap it for you if it gets bad but im being checked every 4 months, a good bra is essential one that seperates your breasts and is supportive not ver sexy I know but hey ho the joys eh ,

Thanks Lottie - I’m good in my arm, it’s just the breast. I only had my WLE last Friday (3rd May) and from the weekend just gone, I started to sleep without my support bra and I think that is what has cause it to start. At the moment it’s still the normal flesh colour so I may have caught it early. Fingers crossed.
Not to worry, I supposed I’d best get to the shops tomorrow and buy a ‘not so sexy’ bra. I wonder if my onc will do an implant in my right boob to match lol.

good luck tomorrow Martha.i got mild breast lymphoedema 4months after wle and rads.i was told to wear a sports bra for support.it makes it more comfortable.

I stupidly stopped wearing my support bra through the night as from the weekend and only wore it during the day. Needless to say it’s back on again!
