Re: STARS- support group/network (Hampshire)

Hello all,

We enjoyed a lovely lunch in the new Harvester today (previously The Mermaid).

We havent set a date for the next meeting yet but a little while ago we agreed to the 20th Nov. for our Christmas dinner. As it is only 2 weeks ago we were a little limited with availability but here is the suggestion.

THE WATERMARK AT PORT SOLENT 20/11/10 7:30PM. THEIR CHRISTMAS MENU IS £29:95 A HEAD (DETAILED ON THEIR WEBSITE).

I AM GOING TO SUGGEST THAT STARS PAY £10 A HEAD SO YOU ONLY PAY £19:95. THERE WILL ALSO BE LIVE MUSIC ON THE NIGHT.

PARTNERS WELCOME.

I AM HAPPY TO BOOK THE TABLE AND SORT THE DEPOSIT BUT NEED TO KNOW NUMBERS BY THE EVENING OF 10/11/10 (WEDS)SO IF YOU COULD LET ME KNOW PLEASE THAT WOULD BE GREAT.

HOPE YOU ARE ALL WELL.

Re: STARS- support group/network (Hampshire)

Hello ladies,

Re: The New Forest trip at the beginning of next year. We thought it

would be a good idea that if you are coming and didnt come last year then STARS will pay. Hooorayy. From memory thats, Elaine,

Rachael,Lisa,Katy, Helen? and Jackie s....I think. Please let me

know if this is not correct.

Waitrose are sending us the cheque from The Community Matters Scheme. I dont know the final amount but as soon as I do I will let you know.

I havent had any suggestions for the Christams dinner venue, any ideas???

Hope you are all well.
I recieved a message from Karen Yanez's husband last week (it was his 1st contact). Karen was a wonderful lady who passed away shortly before Christmas last year, leaving 2 very young daughters. She moved back to New Zealand shortly before her death. He wanted us to know that she valued our support. I have replied letting him know that she is remembered and never far from my thoughts.

As Christmas is rapidly approaching I wondered if STARS would like to send the families of 'members' no longer with us, something. It would be lovely to hear your thoughts on this. I dont have contact details for everyone but let me know your ideas.

In a similar vein, if you know of someone amongst us that needs a 'little lift' and if you have an ideas please get in touch.

Finally, The Breast Cancer Care fashion show is being televised tomorrow on QVC from 7-10pm.

Hugs,
Ruth

Re: STARS- support group/network (Hampshire)

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone would like to suggest where we could have the next meeting. I am very mindfull that we are all scattered in different areas. Port Solent has been a popular choice.

Lisa, you are very welcome. I am sure we all agree that we are all here to support each other.

Also, any ideas for a Christmas dinner venue??

Anyone started Christmas shopping yet?

Re: STARS- support group/network (Hampshire)

Hello,

Just a quick update to try to keep everyone up to speed.

1. The next meeting is 26/09/10, 12pm Port Solent at the usual meeting place. I believe we have 2 newbies coming which will be lovely. Any other newbies reading this are very welcome too.

2. Sandy Balls have sent all the booking confirmation and informed me of the final price, which is the same as last year (hooray). If you cant make it for the weekend, you could join us for lunch etc (just an idea).

3. T shirts and cards have arrived. I will bring them on 26th to show you.

4. I will also try to visit Waitrose to let you know how we are doing with the 'Community Matters Scheme'. If you have any ideas how we could spend the money please let me know.

5. I had a good chat with one o the breast care nurses so she knows a lot more about the group. It was really positive.

6. Now, I dont want to panic anyone but......Christmas is fast approaching!! We decided on November 20th, a few meetings ago, for our Christmas dinner. Is this date still OK? Where would you like to go??

I hope you are all OK? I know some people are having a very difficult time at the moment. Stay in touch. Let us know how we could support you.

Look forward to seeing you all.

Re: STARS- support group/network (Hampshire)

Hi Ruth,

I'm so sorry that you are feeling sad. This should be a wonderful time for you and it seems to be bringing you sadness.

I think it's wonderful that you have been selected for the show and I hope that you truly enjoy your time.

I hope that you and your husband have a wonderful time and I'm sure that he will be delighted to share in your experience.

I really don't think that you have upset anyone. I am sure that all of us know exactly what it feels like to have people surprise us in both good and bad ways with how they support us through our BC experiences. I have been both wonderfully surprised by the support I have received from strangers and appalled at the support I have received from some family and close friends.

What I do know though is that I am very grateful for the support I have received from you and STARS and wish you the best of luck and can't wait to hear how it all goes.

I would love to come along for a bit of glam but with the chemo at the moment I am more likely to throw up on your shoes and so probably wouldn't be the best travelling companion!!

All the best,

Joxx

Re: STARS- support group/network (Hampshire)

Have you upset anyone? I didn't think so. I'm confused (not difficult). That's the trouble with forums and emails, it's so easy to misread what is written.

I'd love to come and support you but it is a little expensive and as I'm heading off to the Caribbean in November the cash is already slipping through my fingers so rapidly. Do you think that's a recognised side effect of breast cancer - the ability to spend lots of money that one hasn't actually got?!!

Anyway, I hope to see you at the next meeting, and I hope the fashion show goes really well and you have a fab time and enjoy every minute of it.

Helen. xx

Re: STARS- support group/network (Hampshire)

Can I please clarify something. I feel dreadful.

I feel entirely supported by you all. I am upset that none of my family are coming to the fashion show and some of their comments which is what my rant was about. I think it has been misinterpreted because of my clumsy language.

I aplogise if I have upset anyone, it was not at all intended. I certainly dont want to offend anyone.

Please accept my apologies. I am gutted at the thought of upsetting any of you lovely ladies. I am happy to talk with any one and explain further if you wish.

Many apologies.

Re: STARS- support group/network (Hampshire)

Yes, I agree - why not?

It's a bit of a hefty price tag and out of my league unfortunately but a shame no-one can go with Ruth. I'm surprised they don't give you one ticket free as you are taking part, there must be lots of women who take part who can't afford to pay £150 for a ticket, or is this for the rich and famous only?

If STARS can afford it then go for it, As Jackie says, you're the one who does all the work, you deserve it!

Re: STARS- support group/network (Hampshire)

I think that the Stars money should be used for either your husband or Jackie to go to London with you. You do so much for us you should have some support too! If it wasn't for you there wouldn't be a group and you and Jackie do so much. Anyone else agree?

Hi Ruth

Sorry been off computer for ages and ages and haven't felt like part of anything at the moment.

Anyway I am sorry nobody is coming to your show I simply can't afford it as I have just moved and my daughter is now getting married and I offered to pay for the dress and then she informs me she wants me at the wedding but is it in Jamacia - and at a sandals resort!!!!!!!!! god knows how I am going to pay for that.

I hope your hubby is going and stars are paying for him as you deserve a treat with it and you should have somebody there.

Hope you are all well as can be

Re: STARS- support group/network (Hampshire)

Hi Ruth

sorry no one can make it to support you...

I can't make the fashion show or the next meet up (I'm doing a wedding fair) but I would love to go with you and the girls to Sandy Balls. I've got it all booked in!

The tent thing is very substantial, not pop up, and I always find a man to help me put it up but all bits are labeled that go together and it's pretty straight forward.

I haven't been able to drive because I had my ovaries and tubes out and then had complications - all is fine now though!

Gutted about the 26th but I have nothing booked for October yet!

Take care x x x

when is the fashion show and how much are the tickets? You are right to rant!

I would like to come to Sandy Balls in Jan, and I hope to come to your next meeting. I know I haven't made it to many of your events but think I should make more of an effort now I've emerged from the fug of treatment.

Ok, I am about to have a major rant so close your eyes and block your ears!

I feel very lucky and privileged to have been chosen as a Breast Cancer Care model for their annual fashion show in London. I am 1 of only 24 models chosen.

I hope you can then understand how totally gutted I am that not one single person is coming to support me!!!!! No friends, no family!

Zero, zilch, nil point, f**k all!!

Ruth (aka misery guts)
(ps I know its very expensive. This isnt aimed at anyone on here. Love you allxxxxx)

Does anybody fancy coming to support me at The Breast Cancer Care fashion show, London as I will be 1 of 24 models.

I was really excited to be chosen but now no-one is coming to support me. 😞

I feel a bit like I have organised a really exciting party......but no-one is coming to enjoy it wih me. 😞

I appreciate the price of the tickets is the main reason why people cant come but just thought I would ask incase.

Take care.

Hi Rachy,
Really fantastic to hear from you. I hope you are well. So glad you would like to come to The New Forest. I will PM you my address so you can send me a cheque, if thats OK? I am asking everyone to contribute £35 each. STARS will be paying the majority.
Those of us that went last time found it really beneficial and relaxing to go, although there was far too much chocolate laying about!!! LOL!!
Send my love to Annie.

Re: STARS- support group/network (Hampshire)

Hi Ruth, Saw Judy and Annie today and spoke about Sandy Balls. I would love to come but need to know where to send money. I find it difficult to attend on Sun days as work most of them for the extra cash. Sandy balls is not that far from me. I like to cook so will bring food if needed.

Lots of love Rachy xxx

Re: STARS- support group/network (Hampshire)

Hi all, again,

Who's free on JANUARY 14TH next year and would like to go to Sandy Balls in the New Forest? I have reserved 2 x 6 berth log cabins (next door to each other).

A few of us went at the begining of the year, this year and it was great fun.

The cabins are reserved for us until October so I need to know by then who is coming, so I can cancell if need be.

We can talk about funding it at the next meeting. The most you would need to pay would be approx £35 each and that is from Friday afternoon until the Monday morning. Checkout the STARS website for photos from last year and the Sandy Balls website. We took our own food and wine and lots of chocolate!! There are 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms in each cabin, they are really nice.

See you soon. Ruth xxx

Re: STARS- support group/network (Hampshire)

Hi Katie, thanks or the offer of the gazebo, is it pop up and the table would be useful too. It will be really good to see you. ow come you havent been able to drive??

Also (to anyone reading this), whilst I am on the scrounge.......The group is getting much bigger and therefore involving a lot more work. I could really do with some help, even as a one off for something. Things are taking a lot of organizing and I coud really do with the help. You dont have to live local to me either. Things that are up and coming and I could do with a hand with are:

1. Organizing STARS Christmas dinner.
2. Organizing New Forest week end away in January.
3. Stationary/poster/cards printing/amending.
4. T shirt design and printing.
5. Applying for a grant through Macmillan.
6. Organzing STARS Ball next year, including booking venue, prizes etc.
7. Visit to breast care nurses at QAH to tell them more about the group.
8. ETC ETC.
Lots of us have benefitted from the funds raised, which is fantastic. But to carry on with the fantastic work, I could really do with some help. A lot of it is really easy, just a lot for one person to do. (Hope you understand).:)
Hope you are all well, take care.

Re: STARS- support group/network (Hampshire)

Hi Ruth

I have a marquee you can use! It's 2m x 3m I think. I use it when I do out door fairs and it's pretty substantial. Have a proper folding table you can use too. I just need to know when you'll need it to make sure I have nothing on and can always bring it down to you the week before so you can practise putting it up! If I'm free I'd come and help aswell.

Can drive again now so fingers crossed will be at the next get together!

take care

Re: STARS- support group/network (Hampshire)

Hello ladies,

STARS had its 4th stall at the Stubbington Fayre. We raised approx £400 for the group which was fantastic. Especially as the fayre was bigger this year and we therefore had a lot more competition from other stalls.
Thank you also to everyone that contributed prizes, they were greatfully recieved. Thanks also to Lisa and Jackie that helped on the day and also to Lynn. A MASSIVE THANK YOU!!
It would be great to think we could do it next year but, its great fun but b****y hard work and today I am exhausted!! So I am asking that if we do it next year can I PLEASE have some more help. Many of you have benefitted from the money raised which is fantastic but I would love to have some more help on the day, organising before hand and clearing up the day after.
Also I need to borrow a 5th decorating table and does anyone have 1 or 2 'pop up' gazebos!! We struggled to erect 2 and it takes ages and is very frustrating as mine is old and dillapidated.
Hope you are all well. Im afraid I cant remember the date of te next meeting but as soon as I find out I will post.
Take care all.
