Scan Results

I'm working in class with my friend tomorrow CK (we used to job-share) so hopefully it won't be too strenous. I have said to my head that I've been told I mustn't get over-tired, so hopefully she'll remember! xx

I was told that I could eat until 7am and drink water until 11:30 which I did take a liberty with because I went to a coffee shop and I decided that hot water wasn't much different to cold so I had an apple and ginger tea which felt naughty and I enjoyed it way more than I would have otherwise. Glad I did because I didn't go down for op until 4pm I was starving. It didn't help when the lady in the next bay was given a ham sandwich which smelled amazing!

Having afternoon op I could eat until 6.30 am I had my last bite of bacon sarnie and swig of coffee at 6.29 then did not go down to surgery until 4.45 my stomach thought my throats had been cut x

It definitely takes your mind off things Chaffinch! I'm working all day Wednesday though with the reception children and doing playground duty! xx

Poor you  Cassie, 4 hours was bad enough when I had my CT scan! When I had my op, I did actually have something at the last time I could, 2am! We had a bit of a laugh at the hospital when they asked me when I'd last eaten and I told them the time! I was eating a sandwich whilst still in the recovery room! xx

No i haven't got a date for my Pet scan yet. I have to go to Sheffield for this as they don't do them at chesterfield so I'm waiting for them to contact me.
I was reading about what it involves on the NHS website. It's like a CT scan but can't eat for 6 hours before. That'll kill me I don't normally go 6 minutes without eating!

There's nothing like spending time with little ones to take your mind off things. Half days sounds like a great idea.

Thanks Sue, I must say I was exhausted after working Thursday, not helped by being chased in a game by a 5 year old! Not a good idea, I ran round clutching my boob! I'm only working until lunchtime, so it shouldn't be too bad, although saying that it's the first morning for the 4 year olds! xx

Hi Cassie, do you know when you're having your PET scan yet? Sorry if you've already written about it on one of the threads.

I don't know when my treatment is starting yet, I'm waiting to receive the oncologist's letter. Thought it had arrived yesterday when the dreaded brown envelope with the sellotape came through the door-it was my follow up appointment with my consultant for next August!! They said last Tuesday that the oncologist's appointment would be in the next week or two and then chemo would start a couple of weeks after. So at the moment everything feels almost normal (going to work tomorrow) and yet it's not! xx

Well, it's good you have your appointment now, you'll soon be on your way & out the other side!

It's quite normal to feel apprehensive, but at the same time, there is a feeling of relief in getting on with it.

I not had onco yet get next lot of results in ...... yes you guessed it 2 weeks lol 😂 I am not so hung up on my hair with the brave the shave and my sister doing it with me and of course my bright pink short statement style at the moment xxx

I've got a letter this morning to see the oncologist first the first time on 14th September. Hopefully this is the start of getting better. A part of me is excited as I want to get this started I'm so fed up of waiting. Another part of me is really nervous but I don't think I'd be human if I wasn't nervous.

Onwards and upwards ladies.

I'm not sure how I'll feel about losing my hair bit I'm quite looking forward to going wig shopping just to see what different styles and colours look like.

I bought 2 wigs and stick on eyebrows I will get a free wig from NHS when I meet onco and 'wig lady' I went to a specialist shop and was really sad that I was being served by a beautiful young girl with gorgeous hair then she told me she had alopevia from age 14 and her hair was a wig I genuinely had no idea and knew I had gone to the right place x

I actually love my wigs thought I would come out of shop upset because I couldn't find anything but ended up with 2 because I couldn't choose between them. My sister brave the shave page now has 640 and she has got 327 on handwritten sponsor sheet so a thousand pound is very much in sitght for us x we have had donations from her friends. My friends and family x

Exactly Sue. I saw some friends this morning and was telling them i'm starting chemo in 2 weeks - as if it was just one of those things and a normal conversation!!! But one of them is Nogerian and had a gorgeous headpiece on and I - THE most unlikely person ever to wear anythong fancy, let alone a hat- was thinking ooh i might get one of those!! Mad xxx

It's weird how our mind set changes at the beginning it was oh no I got rads then it was 💩 I got chemo but now it is fantastic no spread and I have only got chemo and rads to get through and then it's tablets x

Hi Jencat. I was just so relieved. I think i glided put of the hospital afterwards. Like you I had convinced myself that it had spread somewhere. But the news was that it hasn't. I don't think I've stopped grinning since.

I just feel like I can stop the stressing about the cancer itself as I know it's still curable. I can now focus on getting rid of it.

It's annoying I have to have another scan and I have to go into Sheffield for it. Which is a pain in the arse. But at least if the doctors are happy to wait a little longer to start treatment then it's nothing really urgent and it'll be ok.

Not heard back from nurses or for PET scan yet. Hopefully they'll ring me soon.

Hopefully you will get some clarification x I am constantly ringing my nurses as my appointments are between 3 different hospitals and I am paranoid I will end up at the right time but wrong hospital xx

Great to hear from you SueW I was waiting for your post too to see how your surgery went. All well I see which is great.

Have become slightly confused today as yesterday i was told I needed to have the PET scan then results and then oncology. But an oncology appointment arrived in the post this morning for next Thursday. Haven't had a call with the PET scan appointment yet. Have left a voicemail for the breast care nurses to see if they can clarify whether to attend this appointment or put it off until after the scan results.

The waiting is awful Jencat. I said this to the doctor today and he apologised for me having to have another scan. But I'm ok with it. Whether this lymph node is positive for cancer or not it doesn't really make a difference to me they are going to do the same treatment they may just use different drugs. The chemo will sort the lymph node and if not the rads will finish it off. I feel like I'm getting somewhere now. I'm no longer worried about the cancer itself just eager to get rid of it.

Cassie, I am so pleased that you've also received good news about your scans. Waiting for results is just the worst thing isn't it. As regards the lymph node, my consultant said I'd got one that looks a little bit suspect, but they will keep an eye on it and the chemo will zap it anyway, so I imagine the same would be for yours and it's not a problem.

So bone scan is fine. CT scan showed what they already knew about. There's a lymph node under my breast bone that looks inflamed so they want me to go for a PET scan (don't know what that is) just to look at that. But good news is no cancer spread so still very curable.

I feel about 10 stone lighter coming out of the hospital today.
