Secondary breast cancer discussed during Prime Minister's Questions

 Hello all

Just wanted to update you all on our secondary breast cancer campaign and the work we’ve been doing to make sure secondary breast cancer is firmly on the political agenda.

As you may know, we took an interactive exhibition stand to the political party conferences this year, we had a great reaction and even won an award for the stand at the Labour Party Conference. Our volunteer campaigners, who are all living with secondary breast cancer, were also able to meet with Jeremy Corbyn (Leader of the Labour Party), Nicola Sturgeon (Leader of the Scottish National Party) and David Cameron at the conferences.

Tuesday was Secondary Breast Cancer Awareness Day and we held an event in Parliament to mark the day, again we were joined by women living with secondary breast cancer, many of them are active forum users. The event was a great success with over 75 MPs coming along to hear more about secondary breast cancer and what they can do to get involved. We’re already starting to see questions about secondary breast cancer being tabled in Parliament following the event.

We’ve also been asking people to email the Health Minister to ask them to prioritise secondary breast cancer and to highlight what needs to change. So far, over 550 people have emailed their Health Minister. If you’d like to get involved, you can do so here - bit.ly/1OoYimW

On Wednesday we were delighted to hear secondary breast cancer and the importance of the collection of data discussed by Jeremy Corbyn and David Cameron during Prime Minister’s Questions. You can watch a clip of the question here - t.co/MjXuAiC1mo Following the question, the Guardian spoke to one of our campaigners, Emma, and our Head of Policy and Campaigns, Danni Manzi, about our campaign and why data collection is so important - bit.ly/1hGpzmc

We’re really happy to see secondary breast cancer being discussed during Prime Minister’s Questions, and we’re following up with all of the decision makers we’ve spoken to over the past few weeks to make sure they push for improvements in the care and support for people living with secondary breast cancer, both in their local area and nationally. We’ll keep you updated with progress.

Hello

There’s a debate in Parliament today about secondary breast cancer that we are supporting, put forward by Craig Tracey MP. The debate starts at 4.30pm and we’ll be tweeting - you can follow us at @BCCare

You can watch the debate live here - parliamentlive.tv/Commons

Hopefully Craig Tracey MP will be wearing his secondary breast cancer pin badge.

There’s also another debate in the House of Lords on Friday about Access to Palliative Care. We’ve just published a new report about palliative care and secondary breast cancer which you can read here - breastcancercare.org.uk/sites/default/files/too-little-too-late-report.pdf

If you have any questions or would like further information about the debates, or our secondary breast cancer campaigning, please drop me a message here or email me at campaigns@breastcancercare.org.uk

Thanks all!
