Re: September Sizzlers

It true mf I think stress plays a good part in all of this plus good for you eating half a tub of icecream if that's what u want indulge when I was having rads about 1/2 hour after I'd finished I always had a metal taste in my mouth the only thing I wanted was McDonald strawberry milkshake so had to do a detour on way home . Must say crave has gone now thank good as the milkshakes full of crap but enjoyed them at the time x

Re: September Sizzlers

Yes, too much focus on diet is depressing. I ate half s tub of ice cream after posting the healthy eating link last night! I was a healthy eater and exerciser before all this and I believe that stress is an important factor, which is what BC nurses said too. I had a v stressful six years leading up to this.

Re: September Sizzlers

You're both right and good point Jill..onc never me tions diet though in truth my Dr does as does the nurse. Moderation in all things is my mantra. I do believe you have to keep mobile too. Use it or lose it as they say. Anyway Que sera sera x x

Re: September Sizzlers

The ironic thing is that the Oncologists are not the ones telling us to do these things are they?If you ask them about diet etc they don't seem that bothered ,more concerned re you popping the pills, you could easy get overwhelmed by all the advice out there too.

Re: September Sizzlers

Go Monica!!!I think eating healthy and having treats is the way to go, being miserable is certainly not good for cancer either !!

Re: September Sizzlers

Every day there is another scare, & the truth is nobody knows why some people get cancer & others don't. I am not going to give up my daily glass of white wine, & although I try to eat healthily, I am not going to start to eat the latest so called super foods. There are an awful lot of people out there who are making a fortune from their books & spurious claims. Everything in moderation & above all don't blame yourself for being unlucky enough to have had cancer. I really hate these so called experts who tell me it's my fault because I ate too many biscuits. Rant over. I'm off to book a holiday.

Re: September Sizzlers

Haven't seen the news Jill but that sounds amazing - I think our minds are more capable than we could ever imagine. I will watch the news later.

Re: September Sizzlers

My nails breaking too.. had a tickly throat but scalp ok x

Re: September Sizzlers

That's interesting mf seems strange as I've never suffered with a dry scalp before. My nails are suffering too, they have all broken- they were lovely when I came home from holiday. Think Jo has the right idea - we all need to go on holiday!

Re: September Sizzlers

Hi Sharon. I had an itchy scalp while I was on Letrozole but didn't connect it with the meds - did a nit treatment in case I'd picked some up from my grandson but didn't find any and my scalp still itched so was probably the meds!

Re: September Sizzlers

Has anyone else seen the news on a paralysed man who has learnt to walk againby thought alone? New technology..Wow! Though I've always believed the mind is a powerful tool x

Re: September Sizzlers

Yes egret I think you are right, it's a lottery but I think we can help ourselves too....I'm glad they found a smaller mouthpiece but they took their time didn't they! X

Re: September Sizzlers

Evening all, only now catching up with the chat as had to go into work last minute today, one of the staff off sick and I have to cover as it's our own business! I might ring GP re bone scan as I've not heard anything yet. I do get copies of all the letters sent to GP though. I've been suffering with a dry and itchy scalp - not sure if it's a Letrozole side effect. Anyone else had this? I have final appointment for my skin patch test tomorrow, had two positive results so far, I'm allergic to my foundation and to colophonium which is in lots of products including cosmetics, plasters and polish to name a few! Might get me out of the dusting - ha, ha! Can't wait to have a shower tomorrow night. I've had to keep my back dry since Monday and it's feels awful! Tomorrow will be hospital appointment number 40 this year!! I'm working my way round the departments! Hope you are having a lovely holiday Jo and enjoy your piña coladas. I won't stop drinking either, got to have some pleasure in life! I don't have that much anyway.

Glad your skin is getting better Jill. I am still having trouble sleeping but am trying not to take too many sleeping tablets, I tried taking half a tablet last night and did get some sleep. Otherwise I'm feeling ok, just seem to get a few hot flushes at the moment and that's about it.

Re: September Sizzlers

Hi!

ENJOY YOUR HOLIDAY!!!

SENDING POSITIVE THOUGHTS FOR THOSE OF YOU GOING BACK TO WORK!!!

After your responses, I read websites saying that the nasty meds (Accord, Taximofen) are there to block the oestrogen produced by fat tissue, not necessarily from ovaries. The meds lessen the risk of a cancer recurrence. However, we are all treated on the statistical basis of research results (cohorts of other women with bc) on past results, on calculations of risks.

I have found it unsettling to be treated on the basis of other women's statstitics. I have struggled with treatments harsh and totally "unatural". Magazines and the like would tell us to eat this and avoid that, yet found nothing wrong about some of us being poisoned by chemo over weeks, or sizzled by rads. Bingo, I get leakage to my heart and scarring of lung too. For me, the latter is not a statistical finding based on others. I will get scarred tissue, even with that breathing technology and that mouthpiece. The kind nurses found more of the smaller mouthpieces, so I can at least end rads without pain and tears.

I want my old life back, and forget about cancer. Holiday seems a good option if you can have it!

For what it is worth, as someone who is allergic to alcohol (helas) who did not smoke, and ate tons of fresh vegetables, I discovered my cancer lump while exercising at the gym. I strongly believe that bc is mostly a lottery. It is apparently also the finding of the latest cancer research. Egret x

Re: September Sizzlers

Re: September Sizzlers

Good for you Jobey!🍹

Re: September Sizzlers

Personally, I'd rather adjust my diet than suffer the SEs of the AIs. This website has links to research into food and BC and also lists which foods promote/inhibit hormone receptor positive cancer, in case anyone is interested. (TBH I find it difficult to remember these) http://foodforbreastcancer.com/articles/what-should-hormone-receptor-positive-(er%2B-slash-pr%2B)-br...

Re: September Sizzlers

Oncologist told me there is no real evidence that anything we do causes us to have breast cancer, they still dont know why some people get it and others dont, sheer bad luck i was told, im currently lying by a pool in Lanzarote drinking a Pina Colada ! One thing i do know for sure is life is for living 🍹🍹

Re: September Sizzlers

I think they have identified a number of things that encourage the production of "bad oestrogen" as opposed to good oestrogen that includes alcohol ,dairy fat and being overweight ,I'm not sure how the Letrozole works but Im guessing that Tamoxifen would counter act some of the effects of the bad oestrogen on any potentially abnormal cells.

Re: September Sizzlers

What ever produces it should be blocked by the pills surely, else why are we taking them? X

Re: September Sizzlers

Alcohol unfortunately is a proven risk factor as is being overweight .I have cut back but still want some pleasures in life.

Re: September Sizzlers

I see my oncologist next Monday and will certainly ask about the alcohol. I've never heard about it anywhere.  I also hate taking the little white pill. I can't decide if its the meds making me achey or whether it's just having to go to the hospital every day for rads. It's difficult for me lying so flat on the table as I have sciatica, spodilosis in by lower back and problems with my neck and shoulder.  Still have done 8 of 15 now so am starting the count down to ringing the bell. Bring it on. lol.  E

Re: September Sizzlers

I've read that alcohol, dairy and sugar can stimulate growth of hormone-receptive cancers. I've cut down alcohol to an occasional drink when out - don't drink wine at home any more. Also cut down on dairy and sugar. It's a barrel of laughs!

Re: September Sizzlers

Oh that's me done for then Jen! Just come out from onc would have asked. Never heard it mentioned anywhere? X

Re: September Sizzlers

I'm still on the narrow boat somewhere in the midlands. Thought I was thinking less about cancer when I picked up this months Prima magazine and there is a whole section on BC . What really freaked me out was that it said if you have hormone receptive cancer - which I think most of us on this thread have - more than 2 alcoholic drinks a week can increase the chance of reoccurrence by 15% - never heard that before. Flipping heck. Why bother with the drugs if stopping drinking makes such a difference? Has anyone else heard of or read this? I see my oncologist next week I'm definately going to ask her about this. Or is it just a load of rubbish?

Re: September Sizzlers

I'm not surprised you can't face it,I've come to hate putting those tablets in my mouth.

Re: September Sizzlers

No, I haven't even got the prescription filled yet, Jill. Can't bear to risk going through it all again.
