How did it go? I have real difficulty dealing with the questions and I'm not looking forward to explaining my absence.

Re: September Sizzlers

Sounds like you were very ambitious NP going back after 1 week,I'm thinking that I will just about manage a phased return after 4 weeks. We have started a thread onwards in October if you want to pop in and join us there ,a kind of moving on thread , we keep forgetting and popping back here though !!!!

Re: September Sizzlers

3 weeks and 3 days after Rads.

Going back to work after one week was certainly too early for me.  I only managed 4 hours per day in the first week and was totally shattered.  The second week I did 2 full days and 2 half days and had a complete melt down one day!  It was all too much, too soon.  With hindsight, I should have returned to work at the beginning of this week.  I feel like I've turned the corner and much more like my usual self.  There is a lot pressure, mainly from ourselves, to get back to normal just because we want the whole BC ordeal to be well and truly over.  I would say a phased return is ideal and get a sick note from the GP to back you up then it's less of you being awkward and more this is what needs to happen.

Big hugs to everyone xxx

Re: September Sizzlers

In my experience ladies work kept me sane and helped life return to normal quicker, i know im fortunate to work with a great bunch who all knew so i didnt have to keep up any pretence but i didnt want to be at home and my stubborn side wouldnt let me give in to the bugger! i worked, went to rads , slept and repeated, celebrated with a bottle of bubbly when it was all over and am happily getting on with enjoying life 😊😊

Re: September Sizzlers

Depends where you work, best to negotiate what you feel you can manage in advance I guess. My boss has asked that I get G.P to write it on a fit note what I should be working and when, but it is a it difficult to predict how you will feel day to day isn't it.

Re: September Sizzlers

Hi!

Wishing you the best for the end of rads, I am envious!!!

Wishing you and your grandaughter happy birthdays celebrations at the weekend and enjoy the caravan!

For the first time, a couple of hours ago my face almost stopped itching. The allergy is not yet over, but as it did not get to my breast, to my relief, the rads went on. My L boob is ever so slightly bronzing. Weid. Aloevera after each rads session, then E45 cream morning and evening. 13/20 (7 more to go) that's hard going after months of chemo.

As I am still feeling frustrated, after booking two short holidays a. few days ago, I booked today a classical concert for October and a theatre ticket for November to see Mark Rylance. (He was in Woofhall).

Keep well Eiljones, keep slapping E45 cream, apparently we need to do so for several weeks after the end of rads, Egret x

Re: September Sizzlers

Hi Egret,

Hope that your are feeling a bit better and that your boob has not got any worse.  I've had 11 of 15 sessions today.  I was a bit itchy a couple of days ago but it seems to have settled again apart from it looking a bit pink with a few tiny red spots. I just keep slapping the E45 on and am hoping for the best - only 4 sessions to go before I ring the bell. I'm of to spend a few days at my caravan with my daughter a couple days after I finish rads and its mine and my grandaughter's birthday this weekend so hoping to gets some 'mand a nice meal off the kids.  I'm in Stockport, near Manchester and I'm going to The Christie Hospital for rads and they are very good.

Re: September Sizzlers

Hi all hope you are all doing well. Had a lovely afternoon - treated my mum to afternoon tea for her birthday and my daughter came as well. Have felt so full since but back on the healthy eating and exercise tomorrow! Had a bit of a blip at the weekend - felt exhausted on Saturday night and slept in on Sunday morning, think I needed to catch up on my sleep. Maybe I have been overdoing it, did work quite a bit last week and did go for it at my boot camp on Saturday morning but am trying to get my life back on track. I guess it will take longer than I expected to get back to full health and fitness.

My nails are terrible really splitting not sure if anyone has any tips to help. I can't have extensions as I work with food. My skin is really dry as well not sure if it's the Letrozole or not.

How about calling our chat Onwards in October!

Re: September Sizzlers

Hello everyone!

I have 11/20 sessions today. For the first time my breast feels slightly sore. However, that's nothing compared with the allergy I caught last week (bad cheese?) I look like a burst boot. I am all puffy, my ears, cheeks, eyes are itchy, sore, and red.  I am not on Accord or Temoxifen yet, but it is as if I am practicing for hot flushes too. For the first time in my life, I got into A&E as priority. If my rash reaches my breast, the radiotherapy has to be suspended. I am prescribed steroids and antihistamine. The allergic reaction is going down. Not able to sleep, I saw last night eclipse and blood moon. I went for today's radiotherapy zoombiefied, with my sun glasses on, I forgot to take them off. The nurses were adorable, they pretended not to notice.

FED UP, Aaahhhhrrr!!!! - but keep on the finishing line girl, free after my 20th radiotherapy?!!! After I learned today that my follow-up is six weeks afterwards, I did something a bit rash, plenty of that at present, but nice. Definitively.

Today, I book not one, but two 1 week holidays. I am bolting to Andalucia a week after radiotherapy ends; and still not satisfied, and because I could not resist the chocolate, I will also fly to Switzerland, cheap tickets £38/each way with drink, sandwich and a bar of chocolate included. I blame the chocolate.

My friends said on the phone, they don't care accommodating a zombie.

Keep well, and stay away from delicious unpasteurised goat cheese! Egret x

Re: September Sizzlers

Hi Manathu,

Am pleased to hear that not everyone has many side effects from Anastrozole.  So far I have not had any

major hot flushes - have only woken up once in the night too hot but I do that occasionally anyway.  I'm 68 on Saturday and have spondilosis in my lower back and neck problems so I wont know if its just me or the tablets if I get aches and pains. lol.

Re: September Sizzlers

Hi Cesrabbit,

I am off for rad 10 this afternoon and it's my day to see the doctor so might be there a while.  I have had a few twinges from my boob but nothing major.  I have been very slightly itchy on chest just above boob but that is where I get a heat rash if I'm out in the sun so am hoping that it doesn't spread anywhere else. The main thing that I have noticed from taking aanastrozole is my hair has gone very dry and my face and scalp sometimes feel itchy. My daughter keep telling me that its nothing to do with the tablets its just that I'm getting older - I'm 68 ob Saturday. lol.

Re: September Sizzlers

I have been taking Anastrozole since June. A few hot flushes & achy joints but not really anything to worry about. Pleasantly surprised so far. Should also add that I am 66 so I expect aches & pains.

Re: September Sizzlers

I didn't get many side effects til after 1st 5 sessions, but everyone is different, some people have very few side effects , my skin became very red and sore in the last week,I had 15 sessions.

Re: September Sizzlers

Hi Eiljones. I'm at your stage I think. I've had 3/15 rads. Am on anastrozole. Was feeling okay but over weekend my boob has started to throb, really ache. No skin irritation at all just very achy especially around scar area. Funny as have waited 13 weeks for rads and not really felt any discomfort up to now. Thinking it's probably tablets kicking in making everything throb!

Re: September Sizzlers

Hi everyone,

I started rads a couple of weeks ago and wondered how any other ladies having rads at the moment are going on.  I've done 9 of 15 and finish a week on Monday.  So far I am not really tired but I am lucky in that my daughter can drive me to the hospital and some days she can wait for me and on the others I catch two buses home.  I usually break the journey home in town and get a snack and a cuppa.

Are there any ladies at the same stage of treatment as me and is there anyone taking anastrozole? I would like to compare notes with someone.
