This is what I have heard.....it is 'safe' with it.....as in there are no indications of inter reactions......but I believe from my oncologist that it can reduce the efficiency of tamoxifen. Clearly there are issues here that need to be weighed up, your mental health might 'trump' your tamoxifen benefits......especiAlly if you are feeling very low or anxious that it is affecting your life significantly. Why not go back to your normal GP today or ring the hospital unit/ BC nurse who was detailed to you? They might be able to get a messaged to your oncologist, for advice.
venlafaxine and tamoxifen are fine together, according to research done by my GP, and doesn't affect the effectiveness. As it happens I am already on Venlafaxine and will be starting tamoxifen shortly.
I take Venlafaxine with Tamoxifen as it helps with flushes, my surgeon recommended it and it's been great 😊 There are a quite a few you can't take with Tamoxifen as they interfere with its effectiveness, Fluxotene is one of them, I hope you settle on a decision that is right for you xx
Hi, I'm also on sertraline and have been for over 5 years now. I have a long term mental health condition and after a particularly bad relapse in 2010 it took a few lengthy admissions to psychiatric ward and various meds to find the "right" one.
I don't know yet if I will need to take tamoxifen but would be very really reluctant to put my mental health at risk again. I was collecting my usual monthly prescription last week and asked the pharmacist about any drug interactions and she said they shouldn't be prescribed together BUT there seems to be a lot of conflicting evidence about which SSRI's/antidepressants are suitable to use in conjunction with Tamoxifen.
Good luck with your treatment. xx
