Re: Skincare and haircare during Chemo

Lilliput, you need to check the label for parabans and ph content. Aveeno is given by my hospital for dry skin. Clinique, Bare Minerals and Boots products were in the goody bag given on the Look Good Feel Good session, so they're OK to use. Boots have a cancer skin care specialist in their larger stores who advise on everything. Hope this helps. X

Re: Skincare and haircare during Chemo

Hello does anyone know if wearing hair mousse might help with the falling of hair? I was thinking as it kind of sticks the hair together it might stop some hair falling with day to day movement?

Hi,

The only one I have used was the one from fightcancerwithbeauty and while not being the cheapest it was actually very good.

Good Luck 🙂

Re: Skincare and haircare during Chemo

Hi everyone - I had EC chemo 5 years ago and kept my skin in good condition using my usual Decleore products. My currently having Taxotere (last one next Wednesday) and have found that my usual products have just not been able to deal with the very dry and dehydrated skin it has caused.

Went to a Look Good, Feel Better workshop 2 weeks ago and in my bag of goodies there was Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturiser so have been using that ever since and what a difference it is making. No where near as dehydrated and my skin feels more comfortable. Would really recommend it especially if you can get a sample to try first.

Been using pure Argan oil on my hands and nails since started chemo and although nails are ridged and discoloured they are not flaking and seem fairly strong. Marli xx

Re: Skincare and haircare during Chemo

Hi - I have cold capped and used the organic Aloe Vera shampoo and conditioner and the Aloe Vera body lotion in the same range which have worked really well for me.  I am struggling however to find a suitable face moisturiser as my skin has become very dry and sensitive.

Re: Skincare and haircare during Chemo

I can recommend the Simple products especially shampoo and conditioner. Also nail care products and varnishes from foot healthfirst.com - non of the horrid components of normal nail varnishes and the cuticle oil kept my very damaged nails looking reasonable. Best of luck with your treatment xxx

If your cold capping you will need a pH neutral shampoo and conditioner. Either simple or the new herbal essences.
I used aveeno (can get it on prescription free if money is tight) to moisturise, skin does get dry. Some ladies also use udder cream on their tax hands and feet, and a good cuticle oil.

Hi - I've been using mainly my old stuff but I know some people will loose their sense of smell or actually become extra sensitive and will revert to non-smelling stuff.
I found the info pack from http://cancerhaircare.com really useful for ideas on both hair and skin care x

Hi Cuba, I was very fortunate in that my lovely daughter bought me products online from Jennifer Young (expensive) but they are amazing x

Re: Skincare and haircare during Chemo

Hi Cuba,

I just use regular body butter moisturiser, currently alternating between a French Connection one, which yesterday had the chemo nurses raving over how nice I smelt! And one from boots Champneys Distant Shores, it's passion fruit and mango and is a bit lighter than the FC one and smells heavenly!

I know a lot of people use bio oil too.

Take care, hope chemo goes well for you.
