Re: So scared

HI sophie,I can't obviously give you a diagnosis but was just wondering if there is a particular reason that you are scared that you may have IBc,did you google your symptoms ? The old Internet can be very helpful but it can also give you a lot of things to worry about
If you think about it you have had several episodes of mastitis your breast will have changes in them from the pregnancy and then feeding your baby and you will notice differences in size of follicles etc .you did the right thing when your gp wouldn't refer you .you have been to see a specialist and if he was concerned he would have done some further tests
ALso as regards the arm pain your ligaments, muscles etc are soft following pregnancy and it's easy to get a strain or pull and when your worried about bc you can find every niggle etc fills you with dread please call the helpline or talk to a family member and try to avoid the Internet take care caz xxx

Re: So scared

I think you are probably worrying too much it would seem the pain is to do with infection that you have had ongoing and I think breast feeding will add to this discomfort. If you are still uncomfortable you should go back to the doctors until they get the mastitis under control and get it gone. If you are still experiencing symptoms after that they don't be afraid to go back and keep pestering. You don't mention how old you are but you could go back armed with there are a lot of women who are young women on this site who do have cancer diagnosis so they can't fob you off with your age. That said you probably do not have cancer, most cancers go undetected because there is no pain and no symptoms. I also suspect ou have youth on your side and it is still much less common for a young woman to develop cancedo appeared to women over 50. I would suggest a chat with one of the advisors on the helpline as above. Try are very experienced and could probably offer a much better opinion that anyone else in here. Best wishes x

Re: So scared

Hi Sophie

I wonder if it might be an idea to give the Helpline a call in the morning so you can talk through your concerns. They're on 0808 800 6000 and are open 10-2 on Saturdays.

Best wishes.

So scared

My name is Sophie, I am very scared at the moment and don't know where to turn. I am worried that I may have IBC.
I had my baby girl 5 months ago. Towards the end of December I got what the doctors thought was mastitis (i'm breastfeeding). It partially went away with antibiotics but came back a couple of times. I ended up taking 3 courses of antibiotics. It cleared up mid January and hasn't returned since then. However, I have noticed that the hair follicles/pores on my right breast seem larger/more noticeable than they were before in the area where the mastitis was. I have also been experiencing pain in my right breast, and sometimes in the underarm, shoulder and arm too.
I went to my GP who said it was just to do with breastfeeding and would not refer me to a breast specialist. I paid privately to see one a couple of months ago, he referred me for an Ultrasound which came back clear. However I am still very worried as I have now found out that IBC often does not show up on US.
I don't know what to do next, I saw a different doctor at my GP surgery and they also refused to refer me on the NHS. I can't afford to see another specialist for a 2nd opinion so it now feels like there is now no way that I can get this checked out.
Does this sound anything like IBC? I would be so grateful for any opinions/advice.
Sophie
