Hi Lottie it is a really scary time when you are first diagnosed. I was stage 3, my tumour was 9cm and I had significant spread to lymph nodes - when I was given my results I was not told it was stage 3 - just told the pathology results - it was me who 'googled' and found this out and frighened myself to death. To be honest I think its best not to dwell on what stage you are etc - the staging is really for the medics to decide on what treatment you will need - and with stage 3, it is usually mastectomy, lymph nodes clearence, chemo and rads to breast and underarm - and hormone theropy if appropriate and targeted theropys if HER2. I was diagnosed in 2010 and had all the above treatment - I am still on hormone theropy and I am well and healthy - -the treatments these days are fantastic and whatever stage you are at you will recieve the appropriate treatement. Ask what your treatment plan is going to be and once you start it will give you something to focus on - it does get easier I promise. This site is fantastic for support and information - so is the BCC helpline - whatever you do DO NOT GOOGLE lots of hugs xxxxx
