Hi all
Just to confirm meet up date Sat 22nd September. Clare is looking into hotels in centre of Birmingham. Details to be arranged! I have trawled through a lot of posts and have a list of october ladies so I will PM you all soon. If you don't get a PM in the next few days from me, I haven't left you out on purpose, it will be an oversight so PM me if I've missed you out.
Best wishes to all
Teresa xx
Hey Ladies
Thanks for all your hard work on the research front, can't wait to meet up, should be a hoot. Girly hugs, Simone xxx
Will have a look and catch up with you on fb teresa x
Oh great, glad to see you're on the case too Clare, thanks for getting the ball rolling!! I haven't got around to PM ing everyone yet. Is there anywhere nearer the centre of a reasonable price. I don't mind paying around £60 for a night in the city but it depends on the rest of you. We can liaise on FB about this if it's easier. Thanks again, have a great weekend. xx
The cheapest seems to be Holiday Inn, chapel lane (m6 j7) coming up at £29.
Did try to ring them to see if you could make block booking and then everyone phone up and pay individually but was told to phone during office hours so will try monday and see if i can get more info
Maybe we coud do a travel lodge or premier inn or similar as they are normally pretty reasonably priced.
I don't seem to be on here so much either.... Seem to be sleeping loads at the mo and awake at stupid times.
Anyway hi to you all and looking forward to seeing you in real life in sept.... Like Clare I am on FB more often and my addie is in my profile.... Also on the FB BC chatter and breast friends groups.
Lulu xxxx
Hi all
Good to hear everyone seems to be getting on with things. Looking forward to meet up in sept. I will have a look at some hotels in the area and post my findings 🐵
I dont come on here very often now either but it has been such a comfort and support talking to all you lovelies.
If anyone wants to add me on facebook please feel free to pm me.
Sue sorry you have to wait till spring for next reconstruction but im sure the time will go quickly now we are back on our own two feet as you put it 🐵
Dizzy sorry about the mole removal, hope its getting sorted soon and it heals quickly (i had a mole removed in my teens, i dont remember it being too painful) i guess it does make sense that the rads made it more visible because it tends to have a tanning effect.
Love to all xx
Yay what I'll do is trawl through all the names on this thread and send all a PM with reminder about date, maybe someone else could look into hotel possibilities for the Saturday night?
SEPT 22nd - all welcome!!
T x
PS I also mentioned the date to Lisa (Libralady) on the Nov thread, as she lives in Brum, and a few of us subscribe to that thread too, I'm sure you'll all agree the more the merrier! Hope that's OK
Hi October ladies, just popping into say hi. Yes I would love to come to the meet up in Brum on 22 September.
I've not been on here for ages which is a good thing in that I am so busy with work and getting back on with life that I find that I don't need to come on here anymore.
Sue, I can only echo what you say and would love to thank all you lovely ladies for your help and support over the last few months. Big hugs to all. It's been a tough journey but I feel I am coming out on the otherside.
Dizzy, good to hear from you, I hope the mole is ok
Alison, yes my hair is coming back. It seems to be sprouting from everywhere now. In a month I would say I should be able to use mascara again (I hope) but it's disappointing to have to shave my legs again! My head hair is over a cm now. I still wear a wig for work but hopefully I will be able to ditch that in a couple of months.
judy, you made me laugh re the eyebrows. I have been pencilling in mine and have joked that I could have serious face or angry face or go for the James Bond look...not that I have dared but it would be funny!
Take care ladies. Looking forward to seeing you in September.
Lizzy xx
I'm still getting hot flushes from the Tamoxifen but am just getting on with it really.
Hi all,
it's over a week since I was last "here" and it seems strange - I used to look everyday but now can stand on my own two feet... just wanted to say "thankyou" now in case one day I don't come back (for the right reasons!)
I was devastated on Tuesday when my breast surgeon told me he didn't want to do my next reconstruction until next Spring - aghhhh - but managed to come to terms quite quickly with the help of a G&T and my OH pointing out the valid reasons for the delay - but I know I could have come onto the forum for a rant if need be.
So THANKYOU - give yourselves a big hug from me
Sue x
back again after two days at work and the troublesome appearance of a mole
Lulu, thanks for your concern re work. I have had to go back as could not pay bills otherwise. SSP ran out and that was not enough to pay mortgage!. As it happend work is ok, though only done two half days. I am working my way though all the problems they have created during my none month absence, so I should be busy for some time!. Time flew today, hoping it continues that way
I discovered a mole in my rad treatment area just below my boob in the crease - and quite a big one at just over 1cm. I had never seen this beofre and discovered it while applying cream before my first day back at work! - it can only happen to me. Cue frantic trip to doctors and discussion with rad department at hospital. Doctor examined me and said mole needs to be removed, so I am booked in for minor surgery under local in a couple of weeks. Oncologist and doctor say rads havn't caused it, but mole was probably already there but not visible - does that make sense?. Still terrified it is malignant, but then I suppose rads would destroy cancer cells anyway
Alison, you have finished rads just a day after me, so glad you are ok, but sorry to hear about sore joints. My leg hair has come back with a vengence too, but its really light hair so I don't want to shave it yet!. I kept my eyebrows and eyelashes, though I have met lots of people who have lost theirs
I would love to join you all on a meet up in September. I just have to sort out daughter while I take a break. Its never easy is it?
Dizzy, lizzy and Alison and anyone else i have forgotten, are you joining us in September? 22nd in Brum.

Hello everyone,
I haven't been on the site for ages. I think I just got sick of the whole thing and just put my head down and got in with it! Chemo sucked but is over, just finished rads on Wednesday, had 15 and skin fine. A few odd pains in the breast area but apart from that fine.
I too put on weight, lack of exercise and chemo, and probably the chocolate and cake I eat ! Have started doing pilates, never done it beforenbut started just before end of chemo and I really do like it. My lasting hangover from chemo is very sore ankle joints and I seem to have developed arthritis in one thumb...and the pins and needles in ne hand still there but not as bad. Anyone else had painful joints?
I had to have another MRI scan - an hour in that horrible tube! - just in case I had a lesion on my spine that was causing th pins and needles, thankfully it wasn't, apparently a disc in my spine has moved and is pressing on a nerve...how did that happen? No one seems to know!
I kept a lot of hair due to the cold cap, but I have to say that if I ever have to go throu chemo again I'll just go bald, that cold cap was truly horrible. Lost all my eyelashes and eyebrows, they're just starting to come back...sadly the hair on my legs has come back with a vengeance...is there no justice?
You all sound well, and coping, and what a tip top bunch of women you are. Even when I wasn't posting or even reading, just knowing that you were all going through it really helped.
I'm going back to work next week and I must say I'm really looking forward to it..I've been off since July last year!
Lots of love
Alison
Yo Ladies,
Its certainly quiet on here now but, all for good reasons.
I start my rads next week and have a total of 18 which is not too bad. My eyebrows mostly fell out which i just don't get as my hair is growing back with about 3mm of soft fluff, I let one of my girls pencil them in and had a serious surprised look...lol.
Teresa hope you are doing OK as things had been a little rough.
Looking forward to meeting you all in September
Judy
xxxx
dizzy cant beleive your going back so soon after rads... usually they recommend about a month to recover if your feeling tired when your having them your gonna feel even more knackered when your finished.... i finished 20 rads 2 weeks ago and i have done nothing but sleep for the past week.... although im on insomniac duty tonight! LOL
good luck
OMG I havn't posted in ages!. Will be finishing rads on Tuesday next week (15 in total) and have been wiped out with tiredness. Had rads to boob, underarm and collarbone - a bit red and sore now, but no major problems and so much easier on me than chemo. Still have soreness on my chemo arm, veins knackered and arm looks really "lumpy", hoping this will improve with time.
Glad to see everyone completing their treatments. I cannot believe how time flies, especially when undergoing rads. I have a thirty five mile trip for mine using patient transport, and the early starts have really sapped my energy (I also have to wait around for other patients having their treatments). I am due to start work again next Thursday. Don't want to go back to be honest, but needs must!.
Also started tamoxofin, and having hot flushes, but mainly in the day. Doesn't help when daughter turns heating up and I am sweating already! lol
Best wishes to everyone, you have all been a brilliant support to me thoughout my treatment xx
Hi ladies
It's so good to hear we are now on the road to recovery. I had a lovely Easter week in the Lakes with my folks and even tried a wee fell race (it was a short one) and didn't do too badly all things considered. Although I did get rather hot, threw my hat off in the first mile and ran the race commando causing my mates to joke about GI jane running up the mountain.
Tazzie, yes I'm having hot flushes on Tamoxifen. They seem to be worse at night. I'm not sure how to reduce them. I just get up and have a drink of water and then it seems to get better. I also get them randomly throughout the day. When are you taking your tablet? I'm taking mine when I get up in the morning.
Simone, hope you have a fab time in Anglesey. that's great news on the hair front. Mine is getting there....very soft on top, a bit like a mole but no eyebrows or lashes yet. I am having to shave my legs regularly now!
Clare, glad you had a good Easter break and that you are getting your mo jo back. Yep my feet are not back to normal yet but they are much better.
Lulu, hope you are feeling better. Yes having a holiday was great so I hope you have a fab time in Minorca.
Libby, boo hoo to peripheral neuropathy. I've still got it in both hands and my big toes but the hospital don't seem too concerned.I've kind of got used to it now. The hospital had a look at my veins and said they will take months to get better but that it's just the damage from the Epirubicin. My 6th months check up went well in that the consultant poked and prodded and was quite happy. He said I would have an appointment for a mamo in a few months.
Alice, sound like you had a perfect weekend with DVDs and girly shopping!
take care everyone
Lizzyxx
hi everyone hope you all had a good easter. can i join you on the meet up in sept would probably be looking to stay over as from devon. put myself on the scales today - that was a mistake! better get on a crash diet as need to get into my motorbike leathers by middle of may! anyway start rads today and then for 4 weeks. i was just wondering how people are copying with hot flushes as i am on tamoxifen and get them particulary bad at night- any tips on how to reduce them or cope with them? take care and big hugs taz x
Hey Octobereenies, hope you've all had a nice easter break.
Libby, I think you're right, we have been a strong bunch on the whole, will be thinking of you on 19th April. I'm not losing any poundage, I think that has something to do with the vast amounts of food I'm eating at the mo!! hey ho at least we're on the mend xx
Lulu, hope you're feeling a bit better xx
Clare, hi 5 on the welsh weekend, having myself an Anglesey weekend on the 20th April, can't wait, I think my diet may be very similar to the one you had choc/chips/cake as that sounds like the way to go!!! Got a right head of hair myself now, not long before there'll be a comb involved I think, get me!!!!
Hugs to all, Simone xxx
Hi All
Had a lovely weekend away in wales. I wasnt holding out much hope for sw weigh in tonight as ate loads of choc/cakes/chips/icecream etc at the weekend but i managed to lose a pound...go figure?? lol
Im feeling fine, energy levels pretty much back to normal, might even attempt some excercise this week. Feet still bit sensitive and flaky, hair continuing to grow, brows are back but still no lashes! Will try and be patient for a bit longer 🐵
Hope everyone is well and had a lovely easter xx
Just been away for a few days - Girlie shopping, girlie lunches (plenty of wine) and girlie DVDs - all good for the soul!
Must confess had easter egg and chelsea bun for lunch today, so diet is not going well. Daren't say I'll start again tomorrow as I've a feeling that will be no more healthy... maybe Tuesday!
Iv been in hiding the last few days... And in my PJs with a bad cold.... But it's starting to get better now.
Looking forward to seeing you all in sept too.....
Lizzy you ski trip sounds fab glad you enjoyed it. I can't get over how active you are.... I'm like a slug in comparison.
Clare your holiday plan sounds great.... I'm booked to do Minorca in June with my family.
Libby iv got the same problem as you re weightloss... Want to lose a stone and went along to the nutrition workshop at Maggies centre it was really interesting and we got yummy lunch got another session next week for more scrummy food...... Good luck with the rads..... I'm now a week post last zapp and my skin on my back and clavicle are getting very itchy and breaking down a little bit.
Most of my chemo side effects are fading and have got more energy just not on a par with Lizzy LOL.... Still get really painfull feet and butter fingers.... Still losing eyebrows and lashes! But growing in everywhere else.
Happy Easter xxxx
We are all very quiet around here does it indicate we're moving on, maybe even getting our lives back? On the whole I think we've been a strong bunch, and no longer needy. It was great for us all to have the support from each other when going through chemo S/E's, but now we just pop by to say 'hello how are doing'. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone in Brum, just think we'll all have hair then, and lashes and brows! I'm still using Brow Zings, my lashes are about half the length they were and my hair is growing s l o w l y, I think I'll be wearing my wig for a few more months.
I start rads on 19th April, so all active treatment will be finished in time for my birthday on 18th May, yay!
I hope you all are well and feeling dandy, how's energy levels - mine are improving by the week.
I'm pleased you had a good holiday Lizzy, it sounds like you were active. I giggled at you keeping your towel firmly wrapped, I'd have done the same - mind you I've never felt comfortable exposing my body, my boobs have been shown more since BC than they ever were before! How did your six monthly check up go? And how are your veins?
My major complaint is peripheral neuropathy still, other than that I feel I'm steadily getting my strength back. I'm still battling with the weight I put on, I lost a few pouds quickly but am now at a standstill and need to lose a stone to be same weight as pre chemo, how about you Clare, and Pat, are you losing the pounds?
I hope everyone enjoys the Easter break, shame about the weather!
Libby xxx
Hey Ladies, looks like we're all losing our PJ's so to speak!!!! I'm glad and a little bit sad that we're sort of drifting away from this thread. Will look forward to September where I can thank you in person for getting me through the nightmare of crispgate and many other moments, Lots of girly hugs to you all, Simone xxx
Hi ladies, yes I am definatly up for a group meet up in Birmingham and have pencilled in 22 September. I live near Warrington so would want an overnight stay.
I too am spending less time on here. I find it hard to find the time now that I am back at work full time.
I just had a lovely week skiing and am so pleased I managed to ski every day. I did have a lot of rests and finished early each day. My hotel had a lovely pool and sauna. However it was Austria where the norm is to go naked in the sauna. I didn't want to reveal my MX scar to everyone so kept a towel firmly wrapped round me!
I feel my body is slowly recovering and I am back to running. I did my first race since September yesterday and did well all things considered.
I've got a busy hospital week this week as I'm having Herceptin on Wednesday and then have my 6 monthly check up with my surgeon on thursday...can't believe it's been 6 months since my MX! I also need to speak to the Dr about my veins as they are still very sore when I twist my arm and are really hard. You can actually see the grooves in my arm where the veins are which I'm a bit concerned about.
Well, time for me to go to bed! Sleep well everyone (and hopefully not too many hot flushes!)
Lizzyxx
Hello lovelies
22nd is def ok for me. Booked my holiday today and we will be back week before meetup. we decided on Lanzarote in the end as didnt like the reviews on most of the places we looked at for turkey, dont want to risk going somewhere new and not having good time so we going somewhere weve been before and loved. Cant wait!!
Im on tamoxifen and have just started to diet to try and lose the weight i have put on, i lost 5lbs in first week so im hoping tamox wont affect my weight too much but i guess it could be early days.
Jangus - hi there, so sorry youve had to join us here. Diagnosis is a very scarey time but once you have seen your onc and have a treatment plan you will feel more in control. This thread isnt all that busy now as a lot of people are finishing treatment, lots of others will be able to help and support you through this. Big hugs x
Hi Jangus,
Welcome to the Breast Cancer Care Discussion Forums. Here is a link to the BCC publication Inflammatory breast cancer, which I hope will be useful:
It may also be worth posting in the Talk to other in a similar situation - Inflammatory breast cancer section of the forums, where you will be able to link with others with a similar diagnosis (sections are along the left hand side of the screen).
Please do also remember that the BCC Helpline is available Mon-Fri 9am-5pm and Sat 9am-2pm Tel. 0808 800 6000, offering information and emotional support.
With best wishes,
Anna, BCC Facilitator
Just dig. with inflamatory breast cancer-I am scared to death Meet with oncologist tomorrow I just pray it hasn't gotten out of control to different parts of my body Want Chemo to start today!! Scared-very scared Any advise from anyone with IBC
Hi all,
Have pencilled in w/e of 22nd Sept for a meet up - I'm expecting my second recon to be done in September so I might not be able to make it, but if I'm still on the waiting list then I'll be there! Brum OK for me - about 3 hours from here but happy with an overnight stay. Can offer Fri/Sun night accomodation (live about 10 mins from M6) for those travelling down from Scotland if anyone wants an overnight stay to break the journey.
T - cossie thingy explanation: - I have a mastectomy swimming costume - like a mastectomy bra with a pocket to slot your prothesis in - the outer bit is thin foam anyway so it is already boob shaped - I think you are not supposed to use your ordinary prothesis (chlorine? floats? sinks?) and softies aparently soak up the water so it looks like you are wetting yourself as you walk away from the pool as the softie drains... but someone on this forum ages ago suggested using those xx??X!*? things I just can't think what they are called...they are like a sponge to use in the shower but are made up of scrunched up loops of nylon thread... anyway, providing you get a suitably sized one it just pops in the pocket, doesn't hold water, but gives enough shape so no-one need know!
Like Clare I'm becoming a less frequent visitor - so hard to fit everything in when back at work - but I think that is a good thing.
Sue
Morning all
Lulu Thankyou , just me then lol. Need to stick to fruit rather than biscuits and choccie.
Libby, babys fine and beautiful thankyou. Glad to hear your loosing weight. Think I need to invest in some new scales cos everytime I get on them they tell me the same weight even though I am being very good. Good luck with radiotherapy, it's not too bad, just a pain going everyday.
Hugs to all, hope you are all ok.
Pat x
Pleased to hear it's not just me who is carrying excess weight since chemo. I've lost about 8-9lbs but still have nearly a stone to lose to be back to pre chemo weight. Those first lbs came off easily but I'm struggling now.
Lulu my BCN rang today and agreed with you re Med in height of summer, she said no problem if I'm careful.
Pat, how's the new baby?
Birmingham would be overnight for me too.
Judy you're not miles behind me, my rads planning is tomorrow. Hope yours went OK, how many are you having? I'm having 15 + 5 boosters. Can't wait to get it over with..... not looking forward to having to bare my boobs again, just got used to some dignity. Ah well, has to be done.
Night all,
Libby x
Pat I have been on tamox for 4 years out the last 6 but it doesn't make me hungrier..... I did find it more difficult to lose weight when I put it on.... But that's more just an ageing thing than a tamoxifen thing but since chemo it's harder still to get rid of the extra pounds. X
Evening all. Hope you are all feeling better. I too seem to be coming on here less and less. Is it a sign we are getting our lives back??
I have a quesion for those on tamoxifen, do you feel more hungry than usual?
Hugs to everyone
Pat x
Brum is a bit far from Edinburgh to go for a day trip lol so I'd def rather have at least an over night stay. I'll put the 22nd in my diary to keep that weekend free.
Judy iv fallen out with my wig a bit too.... Was even trying my old one on cos it's shorter but it looks really naff on me now can't see how I ever looked good in it... Think maybe it's just gotten old and frumpy in the past 2 1/2 years lol.
Libby I'm going to Minorca in June for a week.... I don't think not going to the med makes any difference to not going anywhere too hot unless you have high factor sun cream on but even here in the uk with the weather we have been having recently you should make sure you are covered up or wear sun cream.... Also take lots of time to go in the shade and drink plenty.
Lxxxx
Weekend of 22nd Sept sounds good, it would have to be at least an overnighter for me, if I have to drive longer than a couple of hours I sometimes stay a couple of nights at my destination!!!! Any opportunity to spoil myself! heehee!
Hugs to all, Simone xxx
Evening ladies,
As per normal thank you all for your kind words through my tough time.
A Birmingham meet up sounds great even though I will need Gas and Air north of Watford....lol. Though I have spent the last 2 days working in Manchester, the last time I was there was 23 years ago when I lived there as I was an original 'WAG', well he played for Accrington Stanley!!!!! - what a vibrant City.
With this warm weather the wig and me have fallen out with it being thrown across the Paddock on more than one occasion and chucked on the back seat of the car as my head has over heated!!
Have an appointment tomorrow to get Rads started - seem to be miles behind some of you but I suppose its the last part of the journey.
Hugs to all
Judy
xxx
Count me in for a meet up.
Sue, you are spot on re Amitryptiline, I'm finding it difficult to stay awake for more than about six hours - I'm back to afternoon naps!
Teresa, your holiday plans sound lovely. I've never been to Spain but a mountain holiday does appeal, and I love Devon. We've not made any plans yet, but we'll be going to Italy at some point, we usually go beginning of Sept when the weather's cooled a little but our dau is a bridesmaid Sept 8th and we'll be at the wedding. Maybe we'll go June, depends how I'm feeling after rads, my breast surgeon said not to go to a mediterranean country in middle of summer - anyone else been given same advice?
I'll love you and leave you all now. Going to make a snack and then watch The Apprentice.
Libby x
Birmingham good for me guys, later in September better. Maybe weekend of 22nd or 29th? What do we think? An overnight stay, or a lunch meet or what?
I think you're right Simone, we have been through such a lot together it would be so nice to meet up - Libby, Lizzy, Sue, Judy,Pat, Taz and anyone else I've forgotten, what do you reckon?
Teresa
