Hi Lorna, I'm also fine. Same as you - slight aches in the morning or if I sit still for a long time like long car journeys, but it doesn't last long. And my hot flushes are now practically non existant.Have you seen the thread with people freaking out over the potential side effects and thinking about not even trying it?! I was worried, but have been pleasantly surprised. I'm feeling great at the moment. Really chirpy and upbeat and Christmassy! X
How is folk gettin on with tamoxifen - I am ok so far apart from i ache in the morning or after long periods of sittin . I then kinda limp for 5 minutes , suppose this is normal ?? I hope this is it !!!
xxxxx
BB and Rexi - hope you're both doing well?
Katie - 4 sleeps to go! How exciting!! Sorry to hear you're so sore.
My oncy said my skin will get worse for 10 days after my final rads and then suddenly get better really quickly. We shall see...! maybe go to your GP to stock up on any creams/antibiotics etc just in case you need it while you're in America?
x
thank you to lorna sandytoes and rexi
i decided to have the mri scan agin hate that awful noise the machine make im goin for a core biopsy this week as the chemo shrink the the tumour but dont know how much by as mamm couldnt see clearly dont know when operation will be but to everyone have a nice christmas
BB glad to hear you're home and all went well.
Hope all went well for you too today Rexi.
Ooh Katie, have the burns got worse since your rads finished then? I finished last Thursday, I would say mine looks a little less red since stopping BUT feels quite heavy!? If the blisters burst don't use the aqueous cream, I was advised not to put on broken skin and that my bcn would be able to give me something to put on to protect it so worth checking with your nurse.
Hope everyone else is doing ok..., I seem to be in limbo at the moment, still aches and pains, numb fingers and toes, regular hot flushes and it has now been 8 weeks since my last chemo .... 8 weeks!!!! Wow doesnt seem possible. I must admit though my energy levels are definitely on the up 🙂
Love to everyone x
SB - I had a masectomy and recon and drains were in for 4 days - just keep going on at them, thats what i did as was desperate to get home to my kids. I think they took them out to get rid of me in the end!!
BB - So pleased your op is done - so nearly there now.
Rexi is probabaly having her op as we speak so when your reading this it must mean you are all done and I am sure all went well.
I am seeing my oncologist tonight and then will hopefully be signed off for 3 months - SCARY!!!!!
I am off to florida on saturday - I think once I get on that plane i wont stop crying as never thought I would get here!
My burns are very sore from the rads, under my arm has now blistered and cant wear a bra. I am not sure how long until this heals?
Katie xx
Hi ST,
The consultant I had just put a drain in where I had my lumph nodes removed but none in the breast. It was in for 2 days only. As Sandy Toes said it varies from each one.
In the hospital I went to they do not send you home with drains which was my main concern due to the kids.
Suggest you check if your concerned..
Yes the close and real feeling... when someone said your operation with next week in the same sentence...thats when I realised it was real.
Kind regs,
Julia.
Everyone is coming for Christmas dinner knowing that they all have to "muck in" otherwise no one eats! I have been stocking up the freezer and making things in advance where I can. Made vanilla ice cream yesterday - just hope no one finds it before the day itself or it will be gone. How are you now? What is the next stage for you?
Yes, I know what you mean. But then you'll be done in time for Christmas - much better than having it hanging over you during the festive period. And I hope your family aren't making you cook Christmas lunch? Make sure you get spoiled rotten, get the wishbone, the last mincepie etc etc! X
Sandytoes - my surgeon mentioned drains so I guess he does use them. My BCN talked about me needing a bag to carry them around in. All getting a bit close now and a bit "real" if you know what I mean!
ST - I had a double mastectomy, no drains and out the next day. Some surgeons don't use drains...
BB - drain out already? How long was the drain in for? I have my mx on the 20th and worried about still having drains in on Xmas day.
Oooops....!!
Hya all ,
Slendablenda hope you enjoy your night in the sparkly dress.... Fab ...
Lorna i am having a great saturday seems a bit sureal to be back home now ... I was very well looked after but Drain out and I was off ......
After doing exercise the physio gave me like a mad thing ....... consultant said not to !therapeutic mamoplasti need to wait a week ....... Oops..........
Pain .... So far nothing like the leg pain for tax chemo yet .......... Does this continue ? Hope so ...
Thanks for your messages .
Rexi enjoy your weekend and all the best for Monday!
Hugs
Berthas
BB - hope you're back home and being looked after. Well done you with the exercises.
Rexi - hope you're having a bit of a relax before op on Monday...
Oooh! SB! Have a laaaarvely night. It has been such gorgeous weather down here hasn't it?! This time last year we were all snowed in.
I've just been for a walk by the seaside and now off to pick out our tree. Feeling very Christmassy!! 🙂
x
Coo, quite a lot going on. i feel exhausted just reading it all.
Well done BB - hope you'll be home soon and wishing you hassle free recovery.
Rexi- congratulations - you are in without a hiccup. Good luck for the op. Just made it in time!
Surprise party Katie, how lovely. My OH is great, but can't imagine him ever doing that.
Sandy - I haven't got a huge pink boob yet (well, no worse than before!). Have just finished my 1st week of rads and am just becoming aware of a slight feeling of tenderness in that boob. I expect I'll be on fire by the end of next week, but on schedule to be finished before Christmas.
Sparkly dress coming out tonight for Christmas do at The Grand darlinks!
Don't tell anyone I had to let it out a bit..........
Can't wear skyscraper heels due to chemo feet. Will have to make do with pretty, sparkly kitten heel mules. Which wig to wear, got to do nails, better go and get ar*e into gear!
Have a good week-end everyone. The sun is shining here and the seagulls are squawking.
Hello - Fab BB X so pleased its over for u .xx
Oh what to do today , rotten stinking weather , even the dogs on a sit in. OH away to footie , son working and daughter missing .lol.
Xmas cards?? hate them but needs must ...
Happy Saturday
xxxxx
Hello girls ,
Had op eventually . They put in a wire before op to point to the marker ....as for the cold the anethatist decided the risk of having a cold is outweighed by the risk of delay . Cough hurts but glad it is done ! Results next Thursday.
Doing ok so far . Hope to get out and home on Saturday. Tomorrow .
Mum came to visit am and my lovely husband here now. ."....
Lindylou . Doing exercises like a mad thing .. Thanks for the advise. ..
Hugs .
Berthab .
P.s So good to hear talk of finishing treatment ....
Good luck for tomorrow BerthaB and good luck for Monday Rexi .... Can't believe how well you have done in moving house, you make me worn out just reading your posts!!! Lorna & Sandytoes, I am getting the breathlessness and aches & pains still too BUT I have my last radiotherapy tomorrow yeh, can't believe how quickly it's gone! Well done Katie on finishing your rads, my boob is lovely and red too and i will keep slapping on the aqueous cream and the aloe Vera gel (my hospital recommend the gel and also supply it ... Thought I would mention that as some hospitals don't).
Pinkypam, well done on all your Christmas shopping and party planning 🙂 tomorrow will be fine and you will soon get used to whipping your top off everyday and lieing on a table with your arms in stirrups .... Really you will! The things we have to do. ...
I have cording under my arm so it's back to the physio for me next week .... Those of you that have had your lymph nodes removed recently and those about to have them removed make sure you do your exercises, I didn't, my excuse was i didn't have the energy while I was on chemo, but I should have found some as I still have a lot of pain there and now cording grrrr and my op was back in June!
My next hurdle will be going back to work in the new year, just can't imagine it at the moment, very daunting.
xx
Bertha b good luck for tomorrow .Do you know how long you will be in hospital for?
Pam
Hi girls
Katie I'm so happy for you now you have finished.Does it feel brilliant or has it not really sunk in yet?
I have my planning for rads tomorrow which I'm sure is going to put me on another downer as because of Christmas and new year will take me six weeks to complete and will be back and forth to the hospital right over the Christmas hols.My poor kids will a have to come with me as my oh goes back offshore just after Christmas .Just need to wait see whos around for childminding duties over the festive period!
On a more positive note have nearly finished my christmas shopping, have ordered the food and have even organised a party the week before christmas .All i need to get is a lovely sparkly dress that does not make me look fat! My hubby and I have decided to sit down on Christmas day and book a family holiday for in January as soon as I finish my rads so Katie I will look forward to hearing how you fare on your hols.
Rexi well done with the house move a fresh start for you and don't worry about the op I found it ok and was home by 8pm and relaxing in my own bed so hope you are the same
Lorna I too seem to struggle emotionally at times. It feels like I am doing really well and then wham something triggers it off and I am an emotional wreck again.also I seem to fly off the handle really easily and get myself worked up into a state about the smallest things.hopefully like all the other stages we have been through this too will pass.
Sandy toes I too am longing to do some proper exercise.Tried some running at the weekend but really couldn't run very far so am just walking further and faster when out with dog and when I get tired having a seat on a bench and pretending to admire the view.
Everyone else hope you are well
Pam
Hello Girls,
Gool Luck Rexi hope Monday goes well and you just moved house.. wow.
Katie ... glad your all done and finished ....
Sandytoes and Lorna mmmmm my blubbler is getting bigger not smaller..
November flew past and I have my op tomorrow... have a stinking cold !
Will post as soon as I am back and let you know how I got on.
Hugs,
J.
Well done Rexi.....u go girl. Op will be a breeze , remember we are all hardy stuff .xxxxxx
Rexi. I am exhausted just reading your email! I don't know how you have the energy!! But glad you are in and happy!
Aaaw! Katie! Partying away! Good on you. And what a lovely husband!! Hope the burns don't come and bother you on hols...although maybe you could use it as an excuse not to go on the scariest rides...!! 😉
x
Super Katie - finished with the treatment ! Oh and your hubby sounds so sweet!
We have moved house today. My OH is in Spain on a business trip, so it was down to me, a very very good friend and my au pair - well ok, and 5 young lads from the removal company. Although most of the packing was done before yesterday , there was still loads and loads to do. How much stuff does one accumulate in 11 years, 2 children, one au pair, 2 cats and various hobbies? I can tell you - lots and lots. The lads turned up this morning at 8:30, we cleaned the house as it got emptier, I directed the stuff into the new house and at 6pm they were done. Amazing. My back is agony, everything is still packed, but more or less in the right rooms, we have bedding and clothes for tomorrow, i even figured out how to switch on the hot water and central heating, couple of the new neighbours have already come around with their name, number and even cookies and we live in this really nice house now. Woohoo.
I think it worked quite well that my hubby wasn't here - he would have already unpacked more and plugged in the telly , set up xyz etc, but I really like it bit slower and it's nice and quiet.
And this all keeps me from worrying to much about next week ( op on Monday ). I quite like the idea of having a few days 'holiday' now after a job well done :). And I cannot imagine to have done this fresh out of hospital though, so glad it worked out.
Hope you are all well,
Rexi xxx
Morning everyone
Well this is my first morning not rushing off to the hospital as I am all done!!!!!!!!!!! I cant believe it!!!!!!! It is a bit of an anti climax but I am massively relieved that I can finally get back to normal.
I had a big suprise party for me last night that my lovely hubby organised and although I was very emotonal and overwhelmed I did have a fab tme and got a lttle bit tipsy!
My bood is very sore from the rads and red and a little swollen but I think I have got away with the effects quite lightly. No broken skin or blistering. I did use the aqueous cream very day 3 times a day so it must have helped. But dont think im out the woods yet as apparantely the burns peak 10 days after finishing so will keep u updated.
I will never disappear - we have all helpoed eachopther through such difficult times and I hope we can con tinue to do so!
xx
i have never done cardio ever !! I can now walk without passing out virtually after 30 yards , however i have pain in my limbs since starting tam , only when i get up in the morning or after sittin for long spells , mood lower than my normal , will need to monitor it to see if it is a side effect , Its not like me to be down for a lengthy period , i normally snap out of it . On the up side i have had no hot flushes , but also not had a period foe 2 years, god knows why now as they all agree i am not post mena ??? i will keep asking.....
Conclusion is i feel well phisically in comparison to 2 months ago , however i am struggling emotionally a wee bit , that in my experience is worse.
Ho Ho Ho xxx
Are you feeling fitter? I still get out of breath really quickly and am really wheezy. Am walking my dog every day but even that makes me feel as though I'm about to pass out! Let alone doing some proper cardio.
Hellooo - Wound is doin well , only a wee 1cm diameter to heal before rads start so all good .
The weight thing ........i am still a very large 14 , which is kinda my normal , i was really puffy on chemo and thats gone but omg i am still in need of a kick up the behind to get motivated , in every aspect of my NEW life ???? ehhh and what should that be ...lol
Please leave tips below..... jealous muchly that rads have started for u all , but enjoying the break .
xxxxxxxx
Aaw! I stopped down by the Marina too today. The sea was so menacing. Loved it. Travelling to radiotherapy is a pain, but it's lovely to be beside the sea every day.
Well. first rads done today. As Sandy says, everyone there is so nice and friendly. It seemed so hassle free I wondered what I'd been so get up about. I know I'll probably get side effects as time goes on, but I'm just going to try and take it a day at a time, keep up the water and use the aqueous cream. I got a big tub from the GP on prescription.
Yesterday I had my six month follow up wit the surgeon. He is pleased with my progress and no signs of any nasties at the moment. That was a relief. I hadn't realised how het up I've been during the last week or so.
Like you Lorna, I've been feeling quite down and emotional which isn't what I was expecting. Chemo finished 5 weeks ago and I thought I'd be bouncing back by now.
I'm with you on the weight Sandy - keep going out for meals doesn't help. We went to the Marina after rads today and had a steak in Wetherspoons. Certainly can't get into that habit. It was great though watching the waves crashing over the sea wall.
I can't wait until after Christmas to cut back. I'll be the size of a house by then!
Have got posh Christmas do on Saturday, maybe next week..............
Katie's finished! YAYEEEEE! I know you've been feeling down and emotional (normal - we all have) but I hope part of you manages to enjoy the celebrations your friends and family have planned for you. You deserve it. You've been through so much and it's ALL OVER.
Obviously we'd love to hear how you're doing every now and then - but if you disappear we'll know that you've put all of this BC cr*p behind you and have MOVED ON. But if you have any emotional blips, come back and see us.
Oh, and one last question from me - did your boob swell up massively? Mine is HUGE! I wouldn't complain if the other one had followed suit...
Positive from me is that I've gone for 2 days without a hot flush (am on Tamoxifen!). Amazing! Loving it!
Lorna - a ride to and from rads? Great! And how's your wound doing?
No rads tomorrow due to strike.
x
Katie - I hope u are a happy lady tonight - ALL DONE !!!!!!!!!!! Well done.xx
Well i have been a right idiot today . Waiting on hubby to take me to Edinburgh to see surgeon and a guys at the door saying transport service for blah blah to go to Glasgow?? He must have thought who is this weird baldy person as i said really sorry their must be a mistake as 1- i never asked for transport and 2 - my appointment is tommorrow... DOH oh no it wasnt its today . Had to cancel Edinburgh as Glasgow was my planning for rads. I think the chemo has affected my brain !!
On the plus side i now have a run to and from radiotherapy when it starts and i never even knew , Its not as if i have anything else to think about in my diary and i still get it wrong....
Never mind alls well and all that
xxxxxxxx
Thank you - you too. xx
Oooh! Good luck SB! I'm not in until late afternoon tomorrow (good job - you will have left before me and my germs arrive!). And then they're striking on Weds.
So far I've been in and out really quickly. Sometimes there's a bit of a queue for parking, but nothing more than 3 or 4 cars so far... The car parking guy's so sweet...!
Hope it goes well.
x
Hi Sandy
Sorry about your cold/cough. I'm starting my rads tomorrow, about mid-day. My OH will be there with me the first day. If you are there about the same time you'll recognise us - he'll be wearing shorts!
Hello everyone,
I can't believe we're coming to the end of treatment for some! It's been a long shlog though hasn't it?
Katie - maybe you'll enjoy the celebrations when they come round - nice to see family and friends. I hope so!! And when are you off on your hols...?!!!!
Pam - so sorry to hear you've been really weepy. Hope you're feeling a bit more up now? Sounds like we all have our weepy moments.
Lorna - am well jell of your svelte figure! I'm still rotating about 3 tops and 2 pairs of jeans as I refuse to buy any more clothes in a larger size. Not sure Christmas is going to help my waistline...!
Rexi - congrats on the house exchange. Can't believe you'll be moving house just before your op!! A busy couple of days making sure it's all nice for you to come home to. I agree with you about them getting your hopes up. My surgeon did the same.
Radiotherapy all good so far. Boob's a bit swollen and pink now. Katie - how's it gone with the implant? No problems?
I have had a stinking cold though and my chest hurts SO much when I cough or sneeze where the implants are behind the muscles. So every cough or sneeze is followed by a little cry or a scream!
x
Evening ladies,
Congrats on the house rexi, busy week ahead hope it helps take your mind off the op for a while.
So sorry your feeling down pinky pam I think this is a very long slow process.
I have 2 rads left now and all finished on Tuesday. A day I never thought would come. I have complete mixed emotions about it and very tearful. I have a busy week of celebrations that I am going along with even though I do t feel like celebrating but I know how happy my family and friends are for me.
Lots of love to u all x
Congrats on exchanging contracts Rexi. Sounds like you've got a busy time ahead.
PPAM - I think u are normal as i have been a wee bit like you . However each day is a new one so we plod on.
Rexi - I have been at work for the odd week and went to some meetings . However this week went in for 3 days and did feel like OMG get me out of here . They have replaced me while i am off sick so i am feeling a bit useless. Def not ready to commit full time , i have came of sick and using my accumulated A/L so that i delay gettin halve wages .
SStoes - I resembled a wee fat ball a few weeks ago , so i am glad that has gone , i am still kinda bulging...lol...lol...not!
Went xmas shopping today to make my mother relax as she thinks i am dwelling on things too much and need a shake...Grrrr. Clueless comes to mind , god bless her.
Awa for a wee dram
xxxxx
Hi girls
Have been AWL recentely as despite good news re all cancer being gone and lymph nodes clear have been on a total downer and weep fest.I even had a 24 hour cry which was ridiculous.Cant understand just what is going on but i think the fact that i wont be finished my rads this year just tipped me over the edge as i was really hoping to start next year treatment free.Feeling slightly better today and are off to edinburgh to the christmas market for some much needed festive spirit probably in the shape of mulled wine.
Rexi- i had wire inserted and boob injection before op and honestly it was fine. They couldnt do mine with ultrasound as they couldnt find it so had to have it done using x ray to find metal marker and although a little more time consuming was perfect. The worst part as usual was getting the local anaesthetic but once that was done it was a dawdle much less painful than original biopsies so dont worry.
Hope everyone else is well and i have been still thinking about u all in my absense.Must go catch my train for muchos mulled wine.
Pam
Good evening girls
I have a date for the op now - Mon 5th Dec. Lumpectomy (local wide incision thingy ) and anx node clearance. Ooh, and they have to put a wire in 2 hours before to guide the surgeon to the lump - urgh. Somebody else on here had that as well, can't remember who. I am sure it won't hurt, but the injection in the boob and the thought - yuck. Who had it? And how was it?
6 weeks ago at the last ultrasound, the sonographer said, that she couldn't see the tumour anymore, but there may be a small cyst. We were cautiously happy of course by these news. This week though a diff lady did the ultrasound and we also had the results from the MRI and the lump is still there. It's the size of a broad bean, compared to the original lime size, it's pretty good, but still, they shouldnt say stuff like - it's gone, when they are not sure...
Funlady - I don't have that type of bc, however an MRI can give much better detailed and slightly different information about the bc than a mammogram or an ultrasound. I had an MRI right after dx, in the middle of chemo and after the last chemo. It will help your consultant to understand your bc status.
Lorna, doesn't sound great, but it's healing! That's good. And the weight thing! Bonus! I have my taste buds back and my body wants to use them a lot. You went to work - how did that go? Emotionally, physically? Was that the first time since ages? Or did you pop in in between ? Are you phasing in?
Linda and Sandytoes et al - how is the radiotherapy going?
Linda - Have you bought all Xmas presents from John Lewis yet ;)?
BB - all prepped already for Xmas?
House - We finally exchanged contracts yesterday. Woohoo! We are moving next Wednesday. I have a removal company of course, but bit daunted by the fact that my oh is in Spain on a business trip till fri, and now the teachers decided to strike too! On that day! Typical. I l be fine :). Looking forward to a few days rest in hospital 🙂
Hope you are all well!
Rexi xxx
Hi Funlady - sounds like you had a great response to the chemo! I had to have an MRI after my chemo as my tumours didn't show up on US or Mamo even before I started chemo.
Lorna, glad you're healing (albeit slowly) and that you're harier! Great news! I'm still putting on weight! Eating relatively healthily - but still not exercising as still so unfit. Walk my dog every day, but that's it. I'm with you on the scared thoughts creeping in... And I haven't had any SEs from Tamoxifen either.
Rexi! Hope the appointment went well and the house?
3 of my rads done. Hurrah.
X
sorry funlady cant help but Im sure someone will come along who can .
Well wee update on the life and times of me .... Wound at mx site that burst is healing very slowly , its like a crater , not attractive. Arm still a wee bit sore but more a numb kinda cold feeling . Shoulder aches though at night . Energy levels fab in comparison to a month ago . Eyrbrows and eyelashes on their way back....fantastic !!!! hair very visible too, all over !!
Mood variable , feel i should be happier , but trying hard . Ok the majority of the time though , its the fear factor that creeps in occasionally about recurrance. However no point worrying i suppose about what i dont have and may never have again !!!
Chemo weight miraculously goin without effort ...RESULT . May it continue on tamoxifen , which i have had no side effects from yet...eek hope ive not jinxed myself.
Hope u are all well too
xxxxxxxxxx
hello to everyone june chemo i also started in june and have a question can any1 tell me i was diagonsed with invasive ductal cancer basical this cancer dont necessary have lump just thickening of skin well i had 8 chemo to shrink tumor i went an had a mammorgram an ultra scan an they couldnt seen anything now i been told i may have to have a mri again has anyone gone through this
How did you get on Rexi, do you have a date for your op??
Good luck Rexi .xxx
Katie, your hair looks great on the picture. Fab the cold cap worked for you.
Actually your hair on the pic looks better than my hair has ever looked - well jel 🙂
Oh and your girls are so cute!
Sandytoes, a whole weekend without Internet access - how disconnected did you feel or was it quite liberating :)?
BB, so impressed you can prep Xmas already! I think my op will be w/c 5th Dec, but not sure. Will find out tomorrow when I see the surgeon. And get the results from last weeks MRI. As long as one of my arm work well and I can click on stuff on my iPad, I think I l be fine with online shopping 😉
No contracts have been exchanged yet :(. My OH did get quite stressed last week. Every day a bit more - accompanied by comments like: this is all to much, something gotta give (stress at work, house move and bc and up coming op, which could coincide with move). I tried to calm him and make him see the move less black and white. Honestly, he can be such a drama queen. Finally, he saw sense - when he saw one of the 'children in need' documentaries on Fri eve - about a boy living in poverty in Leicester. It put it all in perspective again, he got up, donated money and since then is much calmer about the situation.
Last immediate SEs seem to be receding ( had last tax 2 weeks ago ) - have my tastebuds back ( bad news for my weight again), got slightly numb toes on one foot ( warmth helps), eye lashes and brows hardly exist ( a few are hanging on), head hair is growing, but I ll be sticking with my wig for a while longer.
The lump is on the right, the port on the left. Will they remove the port at the same time, you reckon? I suppose I ll find that out tomorrow too.
Xxx
Love the photo of you and your girls Katie 🙂 xx
Just back from a lovely weekend in the New Forest with no internet access. Lovely and relaxing!
Katie - your hair looks great! Hail the cold cap. My hair's started thickening as the newer bits grow through. Overall am really, really pleased with it. 7 rads left. And then you're done? Are you on Tamoxifen?
BB - thanks for the PM - really good to hear from you.
Hope everyone else had lovely weekends.
