Re: Starting chemo in September???

Hi Nikki, yes you and me next tues. Hope everthing goes ok today, it's awful sleepless nights.. I've had plenty, others too no doubt. Not really ready, as bit in the dark, will know more on Monday. Maybe I'm not asking enough questions...everything happened so quickly..

Re: Starting chemo in September???

So glad you enjoyed your night (or was it a day trip?) out. Obviously worth it!! Bummer on the possible change of date for your start. Even if you end up later, you're not planning on deserting us are you?

Re: Starting chemo in September???

Barbs, not sure I am starting on the 18th now. I rang the hospital yesterday asking if I can have my chemo on a Monday not a Wednesday as OH is working away from next week and it will be easier for him to be here on a monday than having to travel  back midweek. The nurse said you arent down for the 18th, you will get a date next Friday when you come for your assessment. So who knows when I will start!  x

Re: Starting chemo in September???

Brilliant Frenchfancy. Nothing like a bit of laughter to get the day off to a good start and that did make me chuckle. Hope everything is ok at the dentist. Btw never did spill the beans on that name girlie!
Decided to emerge from the duvet after all. Second injection done by lovely son. Boob is still a bit red but other than that fingers crossed everything seems ok. Steroids are finished now so guess energy levels may take a tumble. xx

Re: Starting chemo in September???

Hi Stars,
I appear to be doing the night shift - just can't sleep. I'm staying at my Mum's tonight as I have an early hospital appointment tomorrow morning (Mum is driving me) to have the portacath fitted, guess this is playing on my mind & not being in my own bed I suppose.

Yesterday I went to the hairdressers & got a pixie cut - I really like it, I'll be gutted now if the cold cap doesn't work.

Blue topaz - love the new name, I believe it's you & I Tuesday, you ready for it?

Fb - I've sent a request to join 🙂

Beam & Batman - good luck today, pls let us know you're back safe as soon as you're able we'll only worry otherwise xx

Seroma saga - it's still fairly sore, unfortunately it does seem to be filling up again but fingers crossed its not as bad as before.

My order from annabandana arrived today - cheap & cheerful, delivery time was less than a week.

Haven't done anything about wig yet just ran out of time hopefully I can get an appointment next week providing se's allow it.

Gonna try sleep some more now, night stars x

Re: Starting chemo in September???

Good luck Beam and Bargain for tomorrow. Sending you both big hugs. Still nervous about mine next Tuesday, will get more info i think on Monday when i have to go oncology for a blood test. I work at the hospital where i'm having treatment so know loads of staff, but going to oncology is still fear of the unknown so to speak. Trying to find the developers on Facebook. No joy yet, put the link in, will try again in a mo. God some weird groups coming up though.
Night everyone and take care

Re: Starting chemo in September???

Evening everyone!

As TheBatman says, it's me and her up tomorrow!  I have spent the last day of "normal life" partly at school/work, partly shopping (digital thermometer, still no luck with large sizes of hand sanitizer but only went to Asda!), answering texts wishing me well, while all the time wishing it wasn't happening.  Very odd.  I feel a sort of void - strange.  So I have  spent the rest of the evening practicing my new hobby of baking cakes.  I hadn't baked one for about 30 years until last week, tonight we have lemon drizzle and chocolate sponge.

Very apprehensive, but as prepared as I can be mentally for the onslaught.  Haven't been given any steroids or drugs or anything yet, just sticking to diazapam, what a fine invention!

Thanks Barbarella for all the updates - could you update me to say I am having treatment in Cheltenham?  Also, I can't seem to get on the  FB group, som other thing comes up under Startroopers - help?

Will be thinking of you all tomorrow as I begin my FEC cocktail.  My Irish parents laugh at the fact it's called feck.  I keep telling them my cocktail of choice is a Kir Royal, I wonder if the NHS will oblige???

Fingers crossed for minimal SEs.  Beam x

Re: Starting chemo in September???

Frenchfancy, was it your wig session with Donna today. I'm back there next Thursday 12.15. Today was the quickest appointment I've had so far, in and out in 10 minutes. Good job I'm not far from the hospital! Wig styles seem to be ok. Took the one I have already bought to colour match it and Donna seemed quite impressed by it. Not bad considering the price and where it came from. Hope hubbie approves of yours, mine is away working at the moment so he is just going to have to put up with my choices - long, short or bald!!
Still feeling ok this evening, just beginning to get a bit sleepy now. Just so pleased that I haven't suffered any sickness. Still have red boob too!
Love and hugs to all you bright shining Stars. Sleep well, hope we are not disturbed too much by theBatman crashing around the bedroom!! xxx

Facebook group Startroopers@groups.facebook.com ok I've amended the setting to closed group, this means the link can be seen but not the posts or pictures which remain private. Hopefully you can all find it now....PLEASE PLEASE consider joining it, it's so much easier than on here and we can see pictures of each other too!! I will change the setting back to secret in due course so the link won't be found. Even if you don't have Facebook it would be worth opening an account just to get on the group! Obviously we will continue to post on here too but the Facebook group is easier to navigate xxxxxx

Re: Starting chemo in September???

PTB, could well have passed each other today as I was up & down those corridors like mad earlier. I too have gone for a different colour, though not quite brave enough to try blonde! Have always had shortish hair as well so going for bit longer. That is unless OH absolutely hates it when we see them next week. I actually managed to get a 'head'start (sorry, I couldn't resist!!) and managed to pop along to the shop that supplies the hospital. Lady was lovely and not at all like the sales assistant Ally had to deal with by the sound of it.
Glad to hear you seem to be doing ok so far. They did warn me the effect the steroids might have, and was told not to go crazy & do too much for first few days even though might feel perfectly fine.

PTB - Blonde ! right up my street. What colour were you before ? My injections start on saturday. The district nurse is coming in but then i hope to do my own ?

Georgina - Wow you are close being in Coventry..hope you are feeling better soon

Elma - thanks for the tips for wigs. I did try Trendco in Birmingham but didnt get on with the young sales assistant who kept throwing the wigs at me and told me each one looked great on me !!!! I have an appointment at Wills in Bromsgrove tomorrow so hopefully more luck with them. I have also been told that House of Fraser is good.

Beam & Batman - good luck for tomorrow & dont forget your mags & snacks xxxxx

Hi Stars,

Anyway just wanted to say - its not too bad.

Re: Starting chemo in September???

Great to hear you are feeling ok Ally. Long may it continue but like you I have a feeling once the steroids are finished I am going to come down to earth with an almighty bang. Just enjoying feeling well and having some energy to be able to carry on as normally as poss. Wigs will be great. At least there will be no more bad hair days for a while! Lol. x
Love the new name ,Blue_Topaz. We'll probably end up shortening it to Blue though. Re the wigs and things. I think you will find that most of us have been out on pre-chemo shopping sprees to help fill the waiting time. As all NHS areas seem to differ there is no way of knowing what's on offer. I was told about wigs and thermometers at my onco appointment. As I am a welsh patient everything is free. I know that's not the case for everyone. I think most English NHS patients pay for their wigs. Some get free thermometers some don't. I think Scotland is the same as Wales. There are some pretty decent wigs available in shops and on eBay. I bought one for £25 from a party and fancy dress supplier. It's absolutely lovely, very natural looking. It might be an idea just to phone the hospital and ask. Then at least you will have time to sort things out. x
At my wig appointment today I was told to expect my hair to start falling out around day 17 after first chemo. So enjoy it while we can you lovely swamp junkies. Going to have the rest of mine cut off next week. xxxxx
