Re: Starting chemo in September???

Thanks all,
Am doing this one on my own as hubby has a french class followed by a sleep before a night shift. At least I'll be able to do some reading in peace. Slightly nervous as pretty sure they'll give Emend to ease nausea & I know this didn't go too smoothly for Barbarella last time. Fingers crossed all will be ok and this time I'll change some if my own aftercare to see if that helps.
Good luck to Barbarella and Helen as well xx

Nikki, that's rubbish timing for final cycle! As mine has already been delayed one week, I am just a week behind you, so it's going to be a funny old Christmas and new year this year, but roll on 2014

You, me and Barbs then by the sound if it. So far at least, let's hope things don't change too much as we've worked out that all being well, no delays etc, will be looking to get finished with rads around Valentines day. Got to have something to look forward to xx

Hope you manage to get a little sleep at least tonight Sam. Is there anything you can do to make you feel a bit sleepy again?

Hi sue my hair is falling out uncontrollably even my nose hair (wtf??) have gone for the big shave down to about a 3 on the clippers! Head feels so much better it was so itchy and sore. It's still coming out but feels less upsetting now I've had the big cut. If you join us on Facebook you could see!! Leg hair still hanging on for grim death though! I'm up again Monday I was sooooo sick last time, I'm really not looking forward to it again, just hoping that it's not so bad this time! Hope you manage to have a comfortable weekend xxxx

Re: Starting chemo in September???

hello everyone,

Thank you for your good wishes, being home and in my own bed is the best medicine I could have asked for, been asleep for about 12 hours, much needed as couldn't sleep at the hospital.

The surgery site is healed but had on going problems with a seroma, surgeon felt that I probably had a low grade tissue infection from surgery time 12 weeks ago, but because of the chemo reducing my imune system it flared up last week and got a hold, looked like cellulitus but very hot and inflamed.

Glad im not alone for stepping up to the bar at christmas but also sorry to hear that others will be joining me.

Don't know about others but hair fallen out all over the place an I mean all over the place! except for lower leg hair growing like wildfire needing to still shave,  has anyone else got this bizarre problem? also was told periods would stop no such luck! the only side effects I was looking forward too.

Glad to see others are having a easier time, gives me hope for my next one, they say we are all different that seems right for sure.

Have a good weekend all Sue

Re: Starting chemo in September???

Hi ladies, well first dunking went well. Went home and sofa surfed for most of the day apart from whe OH took me B and Q power tool shopping! Then we nipped in to m and s for lovely food. Managed to eat normally all day without being sick. Only SEs so far is a slight hangover feeling with a wuzzy head.

Been awake since 3.30 this morning but feel 100% like me, long may it stay this way. Xx

Re: Starting chemo in September???

Susie that sounds rough poor you! Just what you don't need another stay in hospital! Feeling your pain re the veins, had my bloods today first attempt she reckoned vein was scarred ( already ) then went in my hand and got the blood but then said shed blown the vein, no idea what that means but it hurt!! Dreading Monday now and hoping they find one that works! I really want a portacath gonna gave to start stamping my feet I think!! Glad you're home . So ru having your next one Tuesday? Need to update the list so let me know xxxxx

Re: Starting chemo in September???

Sounds like you've had a long weeks Suzzie, not good!! Getting an infection is always a worry especially if at mx site. Is still an open wound or all healed?

I can totally see why you'd be miffed ( would use stronger but would be bleeped) that they couldn't use portacath. Did they tell you why? That's the whole point if having these lines fitted surely!!!

Hopefully the tablets they've given you are doing the trick & no more delays next week. It is a bummer for the change in date I know, Barbarella & I will both be up on 23rd dec & think blue topaz & a few others are due on 24th as well. Merry Christmas!! (Well hopefully anyway). Take it easy over the weekend, and fingers crossed all goes to plan for you on Tues xx

Re: Starting chemo in September???

Hello All,

well what a week, got a phone call monday pm from gp to say I had infection in my mx site, they knew this because following my visit to a&e the previous week, they had taken a sample that had come back positive, went to gp for antibiotics, presented myself for chemo on tuesday and the oncologist decided to delay for a week, and sent me to see my breast surgeon, was then admited to hospital for IV antibiotics, have just been released today with oral antibiotics, they would not use the new portacath I have fitted, so have given me IV through my poor veins in my arm, which is now swollen and painful. so hoping to get better over the weekend ready for tuesday.  Quite disappointed as the delay means I will be up for chemo on the 24th Dec.

Feeling happy to be home though.

Best wishes to you all sue

Re: Starting chemo in September???

Welcome back Julo,

Glad everything went ok for you today. I think we all thought the first time was going to be worse than it was. its more the anticcipation than anything I believe. Anyway, I'm sure you've already been advised, plenty of rest, lots & lots of water and take your medication even if you dont think you need it, Always better to prevent that sicky feeling rather than trying to get rid of it.  Hope you dont suffer too many nasty se's. Keep us posted of your progress.

Almost forgot, have you sent Facebook request at all? we have a couple outstanding but will only ok you if we know who you are. If you have send a PM to any of us on here and we can get you sorted over there on the darkside!!

Re: Starting chemo in September???

Fec 1 Day 17
Good morning superstars x

It's a damp, dreary looking day on the south coast this morning. I woke up with a banging headache and feeling very angry, I'm just angry that my life at the moment revolves around hospital appointments, good weeks & bad weeks etc
Seroma was drained for 5th time yesterday, hopefully that was the last time.

I also had physio and was given a gold star & told the improvement since last time was fantastic - didn't have the heart to tell her it was more luck than following her exercise regime.

I've had breakfast and taken painkiller so headache has now gone, still feeling a little cross about the situation I've found myself in, it's week 3 'good week!' so I am going shopping.

Good luck for today Julo, remember to keep glugging that water afterwards.

Hope all stars dunked recently have minimum se's

Re: Starting chemo in September???

Good morning Stars,
Just to let you know everything is ok here. Had a very long, fairly good nights's sleep. Taking anti sickness meds and drinking lots of water. Another rest day for me today, sofa surfing and trashy TV. Hope everyone is doing ok.
Good luck to Hawkie and Julo today. Hope everything goes well and good luck to anyone with appointments too. Love and hugs to all. xx
