Hi ,my daughters were both tested aged 28 and 30 as I was diagnosed with BC in 2010 and both my mum and my aunt both died from BC aged 51 and 41 respectively.My eldest tested negative but the youngest tested positive for brca1 so last year she had a double MX with immediate recon and she hasn't looked back,my cousin however,aged 26,whose mum died from BC,doesn't want to be tested,she would rather deal with it if and when,best wishes to you,

its a difficult decision to make. I think I would prefer to know. At least if you know what it is you're up against you can look at how to minimise the risk of it coming back. I'm very curious about tp53 because my sister has a cancer as well but in the brain. She has an astrocytoma glioma. She's had it since she was 2 and was operated on at 15. She's now 40 despite having very few signs of living past 20 or so. I do find genetics fascinating. It's so interesting to understand how something so currently misunderstood by scientists can give so many answers into the medical field.

yes that's the test they have offered but unsure if to take it, nearly 5 years down line and still unsure! i don't know how id live with the result if positive! Scary times...!!

Hi daisy, Rae, kiranclair, swoot, mairead, thanks for sharing your success story. It's nice to hear of people copinweaned recovering well. After doing more research into my family history it turns out my great-grandma had bc, my grandad had prostate cancer and my mum had bc, so wondering if that might be the link.
Mairead, have you read up on the gene TP53? I was looking into that one as well. Surprised with how much bc in your family the genetic has come back negative.

Hi Esther,
I was 22 when I was diagnosed, similar to you was low grade and stage. My mum had cancer when she was 27 and passed away when I was a child as her mum did before her and her mum did before her.
I had tests for brac1&2 but after 7 months negative to both, there is one other test available to me if I wish to ave it but if that comes back negative I'm not sure what fault is going on inside me!!!

I am just in the process of being referred for genetic testing. My surgeon was happy to put me forward for it based on just my age, 35 at dx. He wanted me to wait until I was through all my major treatment (chemo and surgery) before me going for it though, so it wouldn't have made a difference to how they treated me.

If you private message them, they will add you to the private group. There are lots of younger women there who have gone through the same sort of thing and are fab at answering any questions you might have 🙂

I have also been offered genetic testing and I assumed this was because I have no bc in my family. I was told they would like to do it due to my age and no family history. I am still undergoing treatment and await further information regarding genetics. I understand that this will be done on the nhs. I am 31 and considered 'young'

I also underwent genetic testing - however you do seem to be waiting ages for the results. Mine came through in 8weeks!
Daisy - Re: genetic testing, they tend not do it unless you have a familial link. If you do - ask for it. Mine was done on the NHS through Addenbrookes hospital.

Hi Esther, I was diagnosed with breast cancer when I was 28. Mine was about twice the size of yours, more aggressive (grade 3), and with local spread to 1 armpit lymph node. 13 years on and I'm fine, with just a couple of scars to show for the whole experience. Just thought it might be helpful to hear a success story. i think the statistics are in your favour for a full recovery!
i wasnt offered genetic testing so don't know if I've got a gene mutation I'm afraid, but i would actually also be interested to know what the likelihood is for women that get it under 30. Did they offer you the test on the NHS?

thank you so much. That answered a lot of my questions actually. And today I have had my mammogram which showed no more lumps so just need to get the MRI done to confirm that it hasn't spread. Woo! It's going to be a good day xx

Hey everyone,

I got diagnosed on Friday and I'm going through all the emotions. I'm 26 years old and thankfully I have caught the breast cancer really early. It's only 15mm, it's stage 2 and I'm having a lumpectomy on the 17th April. I still have a mammogram and an MRI to go to make sure it hasn't spread, but I feel like its good news.

What worries me is that my mum had breast cancer 3 years ago and im so young to have breast cancer. Does anyone know what the statistics are for women under the age of 30 having the BRCA gene? I'm having the genetic testing done but I have to wait for 6 months for the results.


Also anyone who was a similar ages who has an experience would be great to hear
