Still Concerned

Still Concerned I had my appointment at the breast clinic today, they have told me my problem is probably hormonal, but I have to have a mammogram to check, I am disappointed that this could not be done the same day. Is this normal procedure,? still v worried.

Hi Kurama Hi Kurama,

Yes, unfortunately in my experience it is often normal practice. The same thing happened to me when I saw a specialist several years ago and an appointment was made for a mammogram, at a later date, which was clear. Last year I was referred by my GP for urgent tests and saw the consultant in just over a week. However, I had to go back again a week later for a mammogram, ultrasound and core biopsy as none of these could be carried out sooner because they were so busy. I then had to wait nearly a week for the results. Other people on this site have posted to say that all these tests were carried out on their first visit and they received their results within a day or two at the most. So it is a bit of a lottery and may depend on how busy your hospital is at the time that you attend. Take comfort from the fact that you have only been referred for a mammogram. Hopefully, this will be OK but if you still have concerns ask to see your consultant again and request further tests. I hope you don’t have to wait more than a week or so at the most for the mammogram. If you do, then I would ring up and ask for an earlier appointment because of the stress of waiting. Try to stay positive, keep yourself busy and share your concerns with close family and/or friends who will be able to offer support. I hope it all works out well for you and that my reply has helped a little. I understand how you must be feeling at the moment.

Best wishes

Thank you Francine,

Thank you so much for your reply.
I am still so worried, especially as, when checking in the shower tonight my left breast seems to be more swollen then ever. I feel like a freak at the moment! I am currently planning my wedding in June at the moment as well, the stress of both is driving me mad!

Hope you are well

Take care

I just found out too… Hi,

I just found out I have to go for a mammogram today - I have a limp in my left breast. I’m living in Switzerland, so at least I get to go on friday, but the stress of that visit is already getting to me. Its all I can think about and I have no one here I can talk to. Im 33, 34 day after tomorro- not that I feel like doing anything but worry. Does anyone know what the percentage is of people who find a lump and find out it is begnign… What are the chances friday that I have breast cancer?? 50/50?? No idea, people keep saying " Don’t worry" it won’t be anything… Then why am I going. Can anyone help me out, I think not knowing is horrible but I know there are a lot of braver people out there already in a worse situation. All my best to everyone.

Keep positive Hi Ginger,

I know exactly how you are feeling, its the ‘not knowing’ which is the worse thing.
Try to keep busy and positive, not easy I know!

Thinking of you
