I've found onicolife drops are good for nails & Biosil makes them grow fast & strong. It's also supposed to help your hair. I'm not sure about that, although it went back to it's prechemo texture two weeks after starting biosil, I'm not sure if it would gave happened anyway as I was 18 months post chemo & it could have happened anyway. xx
I finished chemo on New Years Eve. For the last 12 weeks of chemo I had weekly Taxol. Having Taxol weekly instead of 3 weekly is supposed to reduce the awful side effects. But I still had awful problems with my feet and toes. I lost feeling in parts of my feet and several toes - called peripheral neuropathy. My big toenails became infected. The left one was very bad and almost detached from my toe so I had it removed in Jan. The right one didn't seem so bad so I said to leave it - even though the doc suggested taking it off. That was a mistake as the right nail became more distorted and warped. I thought it would grow out but instead it grew in to the side of my foot over the summer. I just had to finally have it removed last week! The left toenail has grown back better but it still doesn't look 'normal' the but that's cutable at the end seems to start from much further back than before and the nail is still more raised than before but it looks ok with nail varnish on. I never used to wear nail varnish on my toes but have been wearing it for the last year to help my toes look vaguely normal! My fingernails didn't drop off but became yellowed and cracked like a 50 a day smoker! They still don't look very good. Still cracked so I keep them short and still a bit yellowed.
Ive been wearing summer flip flop style Birkenstocks even in the rain and colder weather as I couldn't bear my toenail pushing up against anything. And now I gave a big toe bandage!
My GP has given me Terbinofen anti fungal tablets to take for 6 wks as often a mild fungus develops under Taxol affected toenails that can go unnoticed. I take one Biotin 5000 ug a day plus Vit E oil on my fingers and toes. I've done this since Feb. My hair has grown back thick and curly - I had mostly straight hair with a little wave in it before. I will investigate the things that you used. It might be that some of the ingenue to in your supplements are similar to mine. I haven't been taking flaxseed or any other kind of oil orally though. I finished radio at the end of March after a 5 wk course and had awful burns at the end so wasn't really fo using on my feet and toes. But a few weeks ago I realised that the right big toenail wasn't going to improve on its own when I tried on my winter boots and it was too painful to wear them, or any kind of winter shoes! My GP referred my via the NHS to have the toenail removed but the wait was so long it was mid Nov that my appt came through. I found I wS covered by BUPA with my husbands cover at work so I went privately. Although still quite sore I'm so glad to had it removed! The feeling has mostly come back in my feet and toes, there are now only a few toes with reduced feeling.
I hope your finger and toenails continue to improve & thanks for posting your tips.
Hi Sunflower Dinkle,
Thank you for sharing this with our users . I am sure they will be along to share their own tips and support soon.
i finished my chemo back in May and radiotherapy on the 18th August. Just wanted to share with everyone amazing supplements my husband found for me to take to promote new hair and nails growth (all finger and toenails fell off shortly after finishing my chemo)
for or my hair I have took since the beginning of July one capsule per day of inositol and three capsules of flaxseed oil. For my nails perfectil max 3 capsules per day, i also believe this helped my skin through my radiotherapy.
my hair is growing back lovely and thick and strong and my nails including my toenails have now grown back fully. I am only left with three of my fingernails that has the god awful yellow stain at the tip of the nail.
really hope it helps someone else 😊
