Re: Support group for members with weight issues?

Hi
I'd love to join if I may.
I have put on 2 stone since starting tamoxifen. Finished the 5 year treatment in Feb 08 then, 2 weeks later, was diagnosed with another primary, other side, different type. So back on the whole merry go round again of surgery (lots)and rads. The weight just will not shift, regardless what I do. I've tried walking 45 mins each day with the dog, portion control and so on. Maybe just seeing my actual weight in print each week will be an incentive to 'try harder'.
I'm 5'4" and weigh 11st 3lbs - yikes!

Re: Support group for members with weight issues?

Mind if I interrupt, Weight is genuinely an issue for me. 4 years ago i weighed 8stone. I am only 5ft so it was a good comfortable weight for me. Now having finished all treatments I weigh nearly 10 stone. I can lose weight but its a question of my head being in the rightplace and I don't knowif it is at the moment. There are issues as well as BC that are affecting my life right now. But I'm going to give it a go..
Hope ladies you will let me join you and see how we all get on.
Best wishes

Re: Support group for members with weight issues?

hi all
brilliant idea to support each other.... keep up the good work.
I have recently joined a gym, really cheap (30 to join and £10 per month)Thought I would book a personal trainer for once a month for a couple of months to get the hang of all the eqpt (£25).I go three times a week. 1 x weights and 2 x cardio vascular. The weights were really hard and the day after had me in agony. This monday I put the weights lower and didn't feel too bad after. I told the trainer to realise that I had to go to work the day after and unlike him didn't want to spend 24 hours in bed!!.
Couple of weeks ago I hit the 12.8 st mark and am now 12.31/2. Trainer said I had 33 % body fat. oh dear. I really don't think I'm making excuses when I say I believe that all our treatements have helped to pile on the pounds but am also on Arimidex and finding it hard to shift it, it seems to have a life of its own and will hang on for dear life..... perhaps we shouldn't call them pounds, 'cling ons' are a better name for them!.
I am 53 now and think its harder to get rid of weight by diet alone. Exercise makes the world of difference, whether its swimming, fast walking, gym, cycling, just do something to boost metabolism several times a week. Time to go to the gym I suppose, I really have to dig deep to go but feel good afterwards, albeit tired.

good luck everyone
time to get rid of some cling ons.
take care

Re: Support group for members with weight issues?

Hi all

I had a dreadful weekend, tried telling myself that Penguin bar just wasn't what I wanted but I had it anyway...no looking forward to weigh in on thursday but I need to do this!!!! Also, I bought myself a bike on Saturday and I have really enjoyed going out with my son (6 year old), its been great...I am hoping to go out in the morning before the rest of the house awakes but it was a little foggy this morning so I had an extra half hour in bed instead.

Hope you all have a good week, see you all thursday.

Re: Support group for members with weight issues?

I got that Friday feeling yesterday and had fish and chips in the canteen. Plus choc rolls for tea brought in by a work colleague. Work and dieting just aren't compatiable!
Will try harder over the weekend - am off for a swim now.
good luck everyone

Re: Support group for members with weight issues?

good luck girls, i too am trying to lose some of the flab,, gone up to 13 stone but lost some this last couple of weeks, so now 12stone 8. but im only about 5 foot 3 so mega overweight., had gone up each year before chemo, but even worse since treatment, and tamoxifen, may not be helping, but i too am going for long walks and it seems to be helping. if im desperate for choc, curlie wirlies are about 115 calories, so i go for that. ice lollys i have solero which are to about 100, its no good me doing without everything cos i dont think i will keep it up.
happy slimming.

Re: Support group for members with weight issues?

Hi

I am buying a bike tomorrow, I cannot wait to get on and start peddling!!!! Lets hope it helps. I used to run 5 mile every day but since DX I don't do it anymore, with the extra weight I find it really hard so I am hoping this gets me going.

Anyone any other ideas?

I hope your are all staying positive, my office friends have all had bacon sarnies for breakfast !!!!

Take care

Re: Support group for members with weight issues?

I can't drink any wine at the moment - doctors orders - so that isn't my problem. It's the sweet stuff that is my downfall - and lack of exercise. That's a good idea - a walk each night. I will try and do that too to keep you company!

Re: Support group for members with weight issues?

Hi

I know just how you feel! Since the weigh in on Tuesday I feel so hungary. I am trying to eat sensibly and the hardest thing is to lay off the red wine (now day 5). Have been doing a 35 min walk each evening. Lets hope it shifts!!

Re: Support group for members with weight issues?

Absolutely, it’s what we lose that counts. Operation spreadsheet completed. If everyone sends back their new weights or losses on a Wednesday or Thursday (either on thread or PM) I will report back each week. To start off with, how about I arrange to send summary details to all participants’ private mailboxes so we maintain a degree of privacy?

Anyone else wanting to join just throw in your statistics and welcome aboard!

We’re off! Good luck everyone!

Top tip - laughing can aid weight loss, by increasing the heart rate and calorie expenditure. Sounds like my kinda activity!!

Gosh I am hungry............brilliant idea having a spreadsheet. Dont forget its what we lose that is brilliant not where we start or finish....I should add that I'm knee high to a grasshopper so my BMI is high 🙂

Re: Support group for members with weight issues?

If you liked I could document starting weights and track them over time? That way we could celebrate when people hit milestones (with cakes…nooo)? There would be absolutely NO negative stuff…we’ve all been through enough bad times and could do without further disappointments. Let me know if you think it would be a good idea or not?

PS. I feel drawn to offer as I have an unnatural love of spreadsheets!

Re: Support group for members with weight issues?

Morning all

I'd like to join in too if thats okay. I have been on Tamoxifen for just over 2 years now and have gone from a size 14 to a 20!!!! 3 stone heavier and not a happy girl at all. Support would be great.

Current weight this morning = 15st 9lbs ideal weight would be 12st 7lbs. Are we going to record on a weekly basis?

Oh great looks like I'm the first on the scales!

11 stone 1

My realistic target is to get down to 10 stone but a couple more pounds would be wonderful. I'm going to try to keep to 1250 calories a day with no chocs crisps cakes pies or biscuits 🙂

I'd like to join too. Got a horrible spare tyre and about 1 stone to lose. Biscuits and cake are my problem - work in an office where there's always something nice to nibble on.

Re: Support group for members with weight issues?

There is a 'bikini diet' starting next week on one of the breakfast channels. I have signed up to get this emailed to me. My biggest problem is will power and discipline. I'm so miserable with the weight gain that I need to do this.

I think dieting in a group is a brilliant idea.........when shall we start?

Re: Support group for members with weight issues?

Me too. Would love some support to lose weight.
I'm on Arimidex and have put on nearly two stone.

How shall we organise the group therapy? Perhaps a regular 'weigh in' and if we have lost weight, tell us how it's been achieved. Any other ideas? Christiane x

Yes please. I have gone from size 10 to size 14 and I do eat really healthily. It was chemo then Tamoxifen and now Zoladex is about to pile on the pounds too.

Support group for members with weight issues?

Hi,
I have just read a positive message from Christine123 who reports her progress in losing weight. Would any of the members be interested in setting up a support froup so we can encourage each other as we deal with side effects of treatment?
It's so easy to look on the bleak side, which I often do, and I would much prefer to focus completely on the positive aspects of life after diagnosis.
I like many others have put on weight and I'm going to my GP today to ask if he will help me with a sensible nutrition plan so I can be successful in the Ben Nevis challenge later this year.
Losing weight isn't going to be easy, but I've decided to approach it from the viewpoint of mind over matter, if I can get my subconscious tricked into thinking slim and healthy I believe my physical body will follow suit. I'll let you know how I get on.
Enjoy the sunshine.
Love
Gentleninja
