Re: Support group for secondary BC hampshire/Winchester?

Hi ladies. Yes, portacath well and truly plumbed in 😉 just look like I have a nasty cyst near my cleavage but if it makes life a bit easier then so be it. Dates are provisionally set for chemo but could change so I am hoping to make the Friday you've said, Jacqui. I can always send an update on here nearer the time.
I have PM'd you Jacqui and will hopefully see you before the 29th.
Take care all you lovely ladies.

Re: Support group for secondary BC hampshire/Winchester?

Hi Ladies,

hope all is going for you.  specialy Nicky - did your portacath go in OK?  Have you got a date for starting your chemo yet?  All this hanging around is so frustrating isn't it.

I spoke to an onc last Friday.  Basically I do have a brain met so now have another appointment to discuss radiotherapy on Thursday.  The onc thinks it is too big for stereotactic but he will discuss this with the radiology consultant.  I am not too keen on having whole head.  However I do know that rads are very effective - the SE's are ususually over in about 6 weeks - so I should be OK for Christmas. Must confess to having been feeling pretty ill lately.

Nicky and I are both very up in the air with when and where treatments are going to happen so I am just going to put up a date etc.  And just come if you can.  Sorry to stick with same venue but everyone seems to like it and know how to get there - we can sort something else out another time.  Remember you can alway ort out your own informal get togethers.

So here goes: FRIDAY 29TH AUGUST 2014.  13.00 TIFFINS TEAROOMS ALRESFORD.

Takecare - don't get blown away by Bertha

Re: Support group for secondary BC hampshire/Winchester?

Hi Jacqui

I will have PM'd you by the time you read this but just wanted to say I hope you get a good plan sorted out on Weds.

To all you other lovely ladies I'm just posting to say that I won't be able to make this Friday either Smiley Sad  I have now got a date for my chemo to start (not yet, thank goodness) and this means I have a few extra appointments to get through over the next couple of weeks.  This week means I have two extra apointments and the one on Thursday may impact what I can do on Friday so I will have to leave it for now. It did seem quite a quiet week with everyone so once I know what may or may not be happening the following week maybe we can re-arrange it for then?  Will keep in touch and a Happy Birthday from me as well MaraUK Smiley Happy  Enjoy your day.

Re: Support group for secondary BC hampshire/Winchester?

Hi Nicky

I will be around on the 8/7/14.  May need a lift but I think Ian can do this.  Also don'at know what is happening treatment wise yet - will by next Wednesday but my guess is surgery.

Possible venue - Twyford about 1mile from junction 11 on the M3 (Winchester south) there is a nice litttle place called the 'Bean Below' sort of under the village shop.  There is a carpark next door and ususally spaces outside.  Inside and outside seats.  I am sure they have a website - I will look it up and post if you are interested as a group.

Happy Birthday for next week Mara - I am sure there will be mamny more.  I guess we are one set of people who willl not be grumbling about gettin older.

I will PM you Nicky after Wednesday when I know where I am.  I am so spaced out the moment I am noat always sure where that is LOL!

Thankyou for your kind thoughts Nicky and Kirsti - I knew Nicky would come with a moral booster for you.  A lot of folk have had years of stability on capecitbine as I am sure you will.

Love to you all Jacquixxx

Re: Support group for secondary BC hampshire/Winchester?

Hi Marauk
I think my suggestion got lost in my long post!
I'm suggesting next Friday in the Winchester area. Just seeing how many of us are around then. Or another date or day if that doesn't suit? I think I'm starting chemo in about 3 weeks so I may be around the following 2 Fridays as well.

Re: Support group for secondary BC hampshire/Winchester?

Hi ladies, particularly Jacqui and Kirstie
I was just about to reply only to Kirstie and then saw your post Jacqui.
So, firstly onto you. So sorry to hear of this invader in your brain, hopefully after your MRI you will be able to get treatment sorted ASAP and get it zapped. Please let us know how you get on and do PM me or email me if you want me to pop down for a chat, I should be around in August. Good luck and hugs coming your way.
Kirstie, lovely to hear from you and you are missed at our meet ups but I think we all fully understand that you don't want all this cancer rubbish shoved down your throat! Do keep in touch though and you know we can support you if you need it. Sorry to hear from you that the e/e combo hasn't worked so well and you are going onto Capecitabine. I'm just coming of it after nearly 18 months as I have one small liver met added to the others (all of which have shrunk considerably on Cape by the way and bone mets kept stable) so will be moving onto another chemo combination soon. Obviously your onc is going to dose you up to the eyeballs if he thinks you won't be able to go on holiday LOL. I have been away several times this year, all abroad, and have been taking it with no problems whatsoever. I did find it took a couple of cycles to settle down, and I did have a 20% dose reduction to help but after that I haven't had any particular side effects that cause me problems other than the cracked heels which have only come on after a quite a few cycles. Do PM me for more info and I can give you my email if you'd like. I'm sure you will be OK on it and hope it works well for you.
As to the meet up I said I would organise I did have my dates muddled in my head, what a surprise with so much going on. I know its short notice but how about next Friday? If anyone interested wants to say so on here I will arrange it and was thinking of a more central place near Winchester to help with the more southerly ladies? Any suggestions for that, either a garden centre or slightly out of the town place would be gratefully recieved as I'm not so familiar with the area. Alternatively, if everyone wants to we could meet in Winchester at one of the venues we've been to before? Just add your thoughts etc and I'll get back once I've had enough replies.
Take care all you lovely ladies

Re: Support group for secondary BC hampshire/Winchester?

Hello everyone

I am sorry I have not been in touch for a while. I have however been reading everyone's posts. I think if I analyse my behaviour I have not posted because I have been trying not to focus too much on our condition.

I am sad to hear that many of us are having progression and I pray for respite for us all.

I have been a bit up and down. Since last posting my weight began to drop and although it now seems too have found a level I have lost around a stone and a half. Today was scan result day, I have for many weeks been experiencing gastro pain and unable to keep down meals. Once medication was in place the weight loss, pain and sickness became a memory only. Anyhow, scan results were a bit rubbish. Originally I had 3 small tumours in my liver but the e/e combo seems to have stopped working as there is now over a dozen of the little uglers having a party in there. Tomorrow I start oral chemo Capicetabine so if anyone has any advise for me re hands, feet, and other side effects I would be very greatful.

I so hope everyone is doing as well as can be expected. I may not make the next meeting but you are all in my thoughts.

Finally the onc said I may not be able to go on holiday depending on how I tolerate the new treatment. Any thoughts on this? I am not sure what to expect.

Take care, stay happy love Kirstie xxxxxxxx

Re: Support group for secondary BC hampshire/Winchester?

Hi fors - thanks for offeringto sort out dates especially with all you have on at the moment - hope they sort out dates for chemo ASAP so that you can get going and finished.

My brain is a bit befuddle in more ways than one.  Had a lot of headaches and sickness starting last Friday.  Got sent for a CT and there is a tumour there.  As there is only one there are 3 posibities - it is in the meneges (spelling) so it cold simplybe benign menegioma, it could be new primary or the first of the BC mets popping up.  I am going to have an MRI tomorrow which will help them to get a definite diagnosis.  Ttreatment wil then be discussed with te multi-disciplinary team next Tuesday and I will have treatment options.  currently back on big doses of steriods which have helped with the pain also on a new anti - sickness drug which is going a long way towards controlling that.  Lost 7lbs since last Friday - probably mostly fluid as my odema has reduced (a silver lining).  Anyway by the middle of next week all be be clear.  All a bit of a pain in the backside to be honest.

As I don't know what is happening not sure if i will join this monthor not but will sort out September unless someone else is brave enough to do it.

hope all is going OK for the rest  of you.

Enjoy the sunny days - love Jacquix

Re: Support group for secondary BC hampshire/Winchester?

Hi Jacqui
Sorry to hear you are not feeling great right now, I'm sure the weather can't be helping either, however a bit cooler today. A list hat you had a good holiday in Guernsey.
I am happy to organise a meet up in August but am waiting to hear about my chemo starting. However I may just add a place and date on here and see who can make it, possibly near Winchester so it is a bit more central for some of us although not in the centre as it can be a bit busy. I'll get back to everyone in the next day or so, but if anyone else wants to make a suggestion please do so.
Hope you are all keeping well and your treatments are being kind to you but horrible to the little uggers.

Re: Support group for secondary BC hampshire/Winchester?

Hi Folks

I will be around most of August.  A couple of us did discuss a coffee - shared lunch sort of thing at my place but feel this may be a bit ambitious as I am feeling very tired and bit out of sorts at the moment.  Sorry to disappoint, however this poorly patch will pass.  Waiting for kidney function checks as fluid retention is getting worse.  The doc has put me on diueretics so it is all a bit rush and flush in the mornings.

It would be lovely if someone else would sort out the August date as I must confess to getting a bit stale. Thanks for suggesting it Nicky.  It is not difficult just post a time and venue that appeals to you and go for it.

Have you a start date for your chemo Nicky?  I hope it is not too harsh however it does sound as though you and the medics want to throw the whole book at this thing.  Really wish you well.  If you cannot make the organised event but would ike to meet for coffee etc. PM or email me.

Valia and Kirsty - we hope you are both bearing up.  It has been a while since we heard from you.  Remember we are here if you need us.

Hope you is well with the rest of you

Love Jacquix

It was lovely to meet up again last Friday and a nice surprise to have you there Michele.  Well done for driving, the world's your oyster now Smiley Happy

As I said I expect to start chemo mid to late August so may not be able to attend quite so many of our get togethers as before, it will all depend on how I cope.  As I'm around for most of August if there are any of us who want to meet up before September then maybe we can post on here and sort something out?  It will give Jacqui a break from arranging our meet ups.

Take care and have a lovely remainder of the summer if I don't get to see you soon.

Hi all, I know it's late as there is a meet up today. I did intend a trip to London with my son but that has been put back a week as he wants to take me to Lords to see England/India in the second test match...very exciting as it's on my bucket list!! I will join you today, I am going to take the bull by the horns and drive
myself ! See you around 2pm, if any of you get to read this, otherwise I will surprise you. XXX

Re: Support group for secondary BC hampshire/Winchester?

Hello to all,

I don't log in very often at the moment, but think of you often and am desperately sorry to hear we've lost Anne and Vicky, since Liz passed away.

For me, last scan in April brought good news and a little uncertainty...  There's no regrowth in the original sites, so  herceptin seems to be holding for now.  However, I have a small, unidentifiable mark in the other lung, could be nothing, or maybe er+/her2- mets from the 2nd primary tumour, hiding under the original one (removed by lumpectomy).  Waiting for re-scans soon, then possible RFA treatment, or chemo if more appear.   Meanwhile, started Zoladex, to help bolster the Tamoxifen, as by some miracle my body's managing to make quite a lot of oestrogen still!

Meanwhile, I'm working hard, holidaying lots and generally enjoying a short period of pretending that I'm 'normal'.  I recognise that I'm very lucky to have relatively minor metastaces at the moment, but it's only 18 months since my original diagnosis, so early days.

Valia, I'm frustrated for you to have progression after the iv chemo I know you didn't want.  From what I can tell, it's very random which chemo works for which person, so I hope your onc has found something else to try.

Enjoy meeting this Friday, I can't join you, but you will be in my thoughts.

Lurked at Tiffins and saw Michelle so we had a good old chin wag while I did disgusting things like drink coca cola icecream floaats and eat choclate cake and I wondeer why my weight is going up...

OK so next week still stnds I am currently expecting  2 others hopefully this will be a better daate for more of you.  Will you let me know than I know whether it is worth asking Sharon to hold a big table for us.

Finally I have one email address that does not work  - francis - would you confirm by PM'ing me whether this is correct and I just typed in the wrong thing have I read i off wrong.

Take care all of you hope all is going well with your various bits and bobs.  I have horrid lymphodema at the monet and I am going to the hospice tomorrow for massage andto get fited with a pressure sleeve.  Darned nusience don't know why it has popped up now but people have to put up with worse things.

Cheers for now Jacqui

Hi there ladies

I looks like a busy Friday andsometimes these weeks happen.  I am away in Gurnsey the following week so will come up with another date for the end of July beginning of August.  I was wondering if anyone else would like tkae reonsibility for that week and confirm a venue

I will cancel the table but I will still hang out in Tiffins between 13.0and 14.00 just in case - it will not the the first time there has just been 2 of us so do not worry your lives must go on.  I can re-book the table for the 18/7/14 if you decide you want to follow through with Nicky's suggestion.

Good luck with your scans Beanbob and hope things are moving forward with your treatment Nicky.

Hope l is going forward for you Valia and Kirsty you are OK

Re: Support group for secondary BC hampshire/Winchester?

Hi Ladies

I have just emailed off the address list collected at the last session to everyone who gave me their address.  If it does not turn up in your inbox please PM me with your address and I will try again - probably misread it.

For those wondering what I am talking about we thouht it would be nice to share peraonal email addresses if we wished.  Sometimes people want to meet for a an extra coffee between posted meet-ups or just have an urgent thought they want to share with someone.  This is not a compulsory scheme just join in if you want to.  If you do PM me your address and I will get it out to the others and send you the list.

Sorry you cannot make the 4/7/14  Nicky - pleased it is for a nice social reason rather that a grotty hospital appointment.

Hope to see as many as possible 13.00 onwards Tiffins Tearooms - New Alresford 4/7/14

Take care and enjoy the sunny days.

Re: Support group for secondary BC hampshire/Winchester?

Hi there I am pleased that everyone had a good time at the last meet-up despite missing both Liz and Vicky and it was lovely seeing new faces.

The general feeling was that the last session worked so a well a repeat is in order so Sharon will save oour tables for us again - she felt we gave the place a nice lively atmosphere.

So the next meetup will be  FRIDAY 3/7/2014  at 13.00 venue as before

TIFFINS TEAROOMS, WEST STREET, NEW ALRESFORD.

I have not forgotten about the email list and will send that out ASAP.  Benn a bit busy having just had my evening with Carlos last Friday.   Think I am just recovering.  I can honestly say it takes longer and is far more stressful getting to Kensington London than Utrecht Holland.  However it was worth it  - his frappes my dears are a wonder to behold!.  No doubt I will tell you all about it on the 3/7.

Sorry about your setback Nicky - you seem to be taking it very stoically.  It is good that it was picked up so early nd now you have the herceptin.

Hope everyone else is keeping as well possible and look forward to seeing as many as possible soon.

Re: Support group for secondary BC hampshire/Winchester?

Hi

It was lovely to all meet up the other Friday, to remember missing friends and to welcome new ones Smiley Happy  Another lovely location arranged by Jacqui, thank you.

Well, after my CT scan I do have an area in the liver that needs investigating further with an MRI scan, its too small to determine from the CT.  I am staying on Capecitabine for another cycle by which time we should know what is going on.  Although this is a slight set back I have been surprised how long Capecitabine has worked for and kept me stable - over 16 months now especially as I have not been able to have Herceptin added to the mix until now.  I think I will be starting onto an IV chemo regime some time in July, which is what I should have had last Feb, so although this isnt what I want to happen (who does?) at least I should now be on the 'right' combination of treatment.  Everything else including other areas already in the liver and my bones are all stable so it seems like the CT came at exactly the right time to catch any changes early on.

Hope to meet up with everyone some time end of June/early July once we have the next date set.

ps - sorry, I forgot to say that I hope everyone else is doing OK.

Hi Michelle

It will be lovely to see you the get together is on a table saved but do note location it is:

TIFFINS TEAROOM - WEST STREET (where most of the shops are as you drive in from the Winchester direction)

NEW ALRESFORD. (6miles out of Winchester A31/A272) in the Alton/Petersfield direction

It is at the bottom of the hill on the left as you enter town - it is a very small place so tearoom is easy to find.

PLEASE DO NOT GO TO ALTON - YOU WILL BE 10MILES AWAY IN THE WRONG PLACE.

Look forward to seeing you and others - love Jacqui

Hi everyone,

Yet again I am unable to come over from Isle of Wight for your meet-up on Friday - I have an important meeting with my Headteacher (work in a school) which I can't miss. Also waiting on appointment for radiotherapy in next few weeks as I had a tumour removed last week which was 'floating' above my sternum - it has been sent for analysis as they reckon I might have changed from HER2- to +.

Please let me know when the next meeting will be, can't promise I'll be there but you never know!

Hope everyone's treatment is going well at the moment.

Re: Support group for secondary BC hampshire/Winchester?

Hello everyone,
I decided to log on last night/this morning to read the news of Vicky's passing. To say I was shocked is an understatement. She posted her last blog only three weeks ago and sounded as though she was finally getting somewhere with her treatment. If it wasn't for Vicky I would not have found this support group and used her unending knowledge when I first joined Inspire and BCC group.
It has shocked me so much to think that she obviously deteriorated so quickly and has made me realise what this disease is capable of.
I was also saddened to hear of Liz's passing, our group has lost two great ladies who fought this illness with all their strength. I have just returned from Portsmouth Cathedral midday mass where I lit candles for Liz, Vicky, everyone in our group. I am in such a state of shock and a little frightened about what the future holds. You are all in my thoughts and prayers and I look forward to seeing you all in June. Take care and keep in touch

Re: Support group for secondary BC hampshire/Winchester?

Hi there Helen,

Please feel free to join us - here are the details of our next gathering.  This is an informal group of folk there is no hospital link and we tend to move the venue around to try and give people turns at being near the meet-up.

As yu can see we have had a few set-backs lately but generally we are a bright and cheerful bunch with a range of secondaries.  I am sure you will find one of us will be in a similar situation you and be able to give you a hand if you need it - or the other way round.

Friday 6 June at 13.00 - at Tiffins Tea Rooms West Street - New Alresford.

Thought the earlier time would allow the option of lunch or just cake and coffee (even both) as people wish.  Tiffins has just been refurbished and Sharon the owner will reserve a table for us.  It is at the bottom of the hill.  The best place to park is the car park based at Perrins School  - Jacklyn's Lane (£1.50 for a whole day). Street parking has a 1 hour time restriction  New Alresford is just 6 miles out of Winchester on the Alton Road - very easy to find and is a pretty place wth some nice shops if you want to potter for a bit.  Also it will avoid getting tied up in Winchester rush hour traffic.

Re: Vicki - thanks for posting Nicky - Yes it is very sudden and unexpected - just a bit well ...shocked at the moment especially so soon after Liz.  a friend of mine up North died last weeek - is it the time of year?

Hope to see people at the meet-up.

Love Jacquix
