Tamoxifen and endometrial thickening

Re: Tamoxifen and endometrial thickening

Hi,
Bizarrely the first period on tamo arrived early, then the next one a bit late. V odd period, lower abdomen felt v swollen and would bleed for a few hours, then nothing (at all) for a few hours, then bleed again. Also had a rather unpleasant lump of jelly like blood appear.
Is this the type of impact on periods others have found re tamoxifen? And if so what tends to happen re length and frequency of periods going forwards?
Interested in hearing others experiences re what i might expect next
Thanks
Seabreeze

Re: Tamoxifen and endometrial thickening

to be honest if they offered me one I would jump at it - would rather not be running with the increased risk of womb cancer given I am looking at another 9.5 years of Tamoxifen!

Re: Tamoxifen and endometrial thickening

Hi kess , well we are all different I'm sure but I have to say that in 3 months my lining has thickened by 7 mm since my last scan 14 months ago so its now 19mm which is substantially thicker than normal , I've had my scan checked and been told that these changes are in keeping with tamoxifen and not to be alarmed but obviously my question would be how much thicker must it get before there's a need to review . I've contacted my breast care nurse Who is going to discuss with my oncologist .my concern is that if I do have a lot of symptoms my option may be to have a hysterectomy? So just get it checked to be sure cos some of us are more sensitive to tamoxifen than others . Xx

Re: Tamoxifen and endometrial thickening

I have been on Tamoxifen since August and I have been having similar pains to those you describe for the last couple of months. I wasnt sure if was normal or not so was going to wait until my next check up in February, but perhaps I should go and get it checked earlier....

Hi sisterjayne

As well as the support and knowledge you will receive here you might find it helpful to talk things through with a member of staff on the BCC helpline.  Here you can share your thoughts and concerns with someone who will offer you a listening ear as well as emotional support and practical information.  The number to call is 0808 800 6000 and lines are open again on Monday 29 December from 9 to 5pm..

Tamoxifen and endometrial thickening

Hi I had my last period about 18 months ago and was diagnosed with bc in may this year .i started tamoxifen about 3 months ago and I've been having cycles of dragging ,like period pains but no bleeding then they seem to ease ,almost like I'm having periods still without the bleeding .i went to have an ultra sound this week and the radiographer said I had thickening of my endometrium , being a nurse I went straight on the Internet and researched what this can mean and wish I hadn't!! It is associated with tamoxifen and I thought that after 3 months there wouldn't be changes ? Am I wrong? Or is this a problem that may have been there already ? I've got 5 years on the tamoxifen and I really don't want to put myself at risk of endometrial cancer , anyone experienced any of this ?
