I've been on tamoxifen for over a year now. My periods have stayed regular the whole time (age 45 now). The actual period is heavier but shorter than before. I actually don't mind the periods continuing as it means the uterine lining is regularly shed and therefore you are basically not at risk for uterine cancer (rare side affect of tamoxifen).
My Oncologist (one of New Zealand's top breast cancer experts) said tamoxifen affected periods differently. Some women stop, others get irregular, and others no change. As already mentioned, tamoxifen helps prevent oestrogen binding to the breast tissue -it is not meant to shut down the ovaries. My Oncologist said it was designed to work in the presence of functioning ovaries.
My cancer was 100% ER+ and PR+ positive.
