Tamoxifen or arimidex????

Hi,

I am completely confused re my hormone therapy. I have been started on tamoxifen following chemo, mastectomy & radiotherapy. I have not had a period for approx 4 years therefore asume i am post menopausal. I was told by my oncologist that i could change to arimidex if i wanted to if my bone density scan was ok.

I am now in a dilema as to which one to choose as i cannot get a clear answer when looking at literature as to which would be the best.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Hi Bella,

So have you had a bone density scan and how was it? If you have osteoporosis you had better stick with Tamoxifen. You could ask for a further opinion after you get the results of a scan. Tamoxifen is very effective and you can certainly have it after the menopause - I did, but I had Arimidex too, then went back to Tamoxifen and on to Exemestane. I don’t have osteoporosis.
