My mastectomy was on 24th. Doing ok but the drain is a bit troublesome ,even though it's tucked in its orange bag
l am also constipated, so water at hand, will ask the district nurse when she comes for advice.
l have my appointment for April 6th. The surgeon is on holiday ( annoying but man needs a break too ) so it will be with the nurse. She says she should have some results by then.
Best Wishes to all fellow ladies recovering from last weeks operations.
Good luck for our next stage whatever it brings x
Hi I had mastectomy last Friday. Doing ok but also feel sick a lot of the time. Was given anti sickness tablets but have tried a few and don't work very well. Also constipated due to drugs given in surgery so making me feel rubbish. Trying to drink lots of water and green tea. The sunshine today is nice. Hugs to all suffering. xx
Fingers crossed things are easing for you, I have been reading your posts. it's amazing when you can get out when you have been stuck in for a few days, I had my first fresh air yesterday, felt a bit drunk on it !!! Had a mastectomy last Tuesday, been to the breast unit today for my drain out, that was really driving me mad. They said it looks ok, and I feel pretty good at the minute, just knackered from lack of sleep, but will hopefully sleep better tonight. Back next week for results and see what's ahead.
hopefully you will go in the same direction and feel a bit more human as the days go on xxx
Not called gp at the moment. Tried Kwells, the travel sickness pill n seems to be helping.
yesterday n today feeling giddy/dizzy again.
gonna try going for a short walk tomorrow to get some fresh air in my body.. Hi ho..
Hope everyone out there is " keeping their chin up "
so many of us around, cant believe how many until i start to read the posts. Big hugs to all. 💖
How you doing , Minimad? Get anything for sickness yat?
Eating ginger biscuits butnow even the smell of them makes me feel yuk..
husband going to the chemist, see if they could maybe suggest something.
if not, gonna call out of hours gp for advice. No temp. n area looks settled.
was gonna watch ski jumping on tv but cant, everything moving too fast n making dizziness worse 😱
Cant focus very well toread either so just sitting here thinking aboutit all.
This isnt like me, i dont do sitting around.... Moan over 😄
Poor you, Minimad. I agree, a phone call for help. Not worth the extra hassle when you've had major surgery. My friend swears by mint tea, so I have some in as I don't do well at all on anaesthetic. Also I've heard that a slice of fresh ginger in hot water can help with nausea. Hope you feel better soon.
Oh Mini mad I'm so sorry to hear this -as you have had this before when having an op, I guess it is your reaction to anaesthesia, and i can't advise. Might be worth phoning the out-of-hours gp - you might need some anti-nausea meds, or something else, in case it is an allergic reaction to the anaesthetic. I'm not a medic so my lay-woman's advice in the earlier post related to my own post-op experience, but it sounds like you need a bit of professional advice. They can ask you stuff like whether you have a temperature (just thinking about possible infection) and that sort of thing. Don't suffer any longer without taking some advice, as three days is a bit too long to be getting over an anaesthetic in my "woman in the street" opinion. XX
Hey Optimissy64'
3 days after surgery n still feeling rubbish after anaesthetic 😱😱
Dizzy, woozy n nauseaous.....feel yuck.....had this before after another op . Hoped it wouldnt happen this time.
drinking lots of water. Any other ideas please ??
Forgot to ask, how's the drain?
Poor you, Minimad. Not a nice experience but that is over with. I'm two days ahead of you, but I wasn't given anything like cushions from my hospital. What a good idea. I bought a nursing cushion for bed, and up until last night it worked well. I must have got too flat and tried to roll over. Ouch!
Good on you Mini mad - another part over as you say. I too had paracetamol and ibuprofen - seemed to do the trick very nicely. Like you I also go to sleep on my left side so for a few weeks after my lumpectomy and node removal I had to learn to sleep on the other side - surprisingly odd, isn't it - like putting a different leg first into your jeans. Back to normal though 3 months on.
I had a little heart cushion too - made such a difference under my armpit while watching TV - don't know if it was helping physically or just made me feel emotionally better, but they are a lovely idea.
My armpit was numb for ages - still a tinyu bit numb even now - most odd sensation when rying to wash underarm! So don't panic if you can't feel yours, it takes a while
Onwards and upwards now -don't forget to drink lots of water (it'll help flush the anaesthetic out and the blue dye if you had it) and do the exercises they tell you about - easy ones for week 1, then slightely more stretchy ones afterwards. They will have given you a Breast Cancer Care leaflet about this I imagine? Really important to get mobility back into your shoulder and armpit so you can "assume the position" (not sure if you are old enough to remember Hill Street Blues?) if you have radiotherapy.
Very best wishes for your recovery. X
Yesterday i went into hospital for my surgery - malignant lump removal, suspicious area and 3 sentinel lyph nodes. Had 3 wires inserted after loads of painful mammograms. Then onto xray for radioactive injection ..ouch.. Finally back to ward, nightgown on , paperwork checked n off to anaesthesia room.
after 15 minutes of TRYING to get canula in...again big ouch.... Gave up on that vein n tried again with success on another. By now bp was 200/96...
after op surgeon came to see me n said it went very well.
now gotta wait until 30th for final results to be sure margins were clear , also lymph nodes.
have to say today has been mixed. Still woozy from anaesthetic also nausea comes n goes. Been eating ginger biscuits n water which seems to help.
With regards to pain control, i' taking mainly ibuprofen with paracetamol. Just need to find the right combination. Getting comfy in bed is proving difficult as i usually sleep on my left side. Hospital gave me a heart shaped cusion toput underneath in my armpit which is proving useful n comfortable. Using other cushions to support my arm in bed/while sitting in armchair.
gone on a bit...sorry...just needed to write this all down in here, def helps me.
good luck out there is anybody is going in for surgery. In some way we've all been there.. 💖
