Re: Thickening of tissue and pain in right breast

Hi I have routine mamogramme s and have done since I was 40 due to the fact that my sister had breast cancer in her 40,s. I'm 46. I had my check just over a week ago and was called back as they have found a thickening on the right side. I have dense tissue, I'm told and have gone through the menapause since my last mamogramme in 2012.
Im worried ( understatement) I go tomorrow for an ultrasound.

Dear Fidget and Maire

It isn't that you can't have mammogram at your age, it is just that breast tissue in younger women is more dense than when you are 50+ and wouldn't necessarily show anything. The scan does show whatever might be causing breast problems. Good luck for Thursday Fidget. Waiting for tests and results is the worst time in this situation, so I'm sending big hugs and hoping for a good outcome for you.

Take care

I had mammograms in my 30's so don't understand why you can't have them.

Thank you Maggie1964 and Lilac51 for your wishes. I'm trying not to google and stress myself even more. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and praying all the reports come clear.

Re: Thickening of tissue and pain in right breast

When I had my first routine mammogram at the age of 50 I was called back because some thickening of tissue had shown up, then I had an ultrasound for more detailed results so I wouldn't worry about not having a mammogram. It turned out there was nothing to worry about at that time; I was diagnosed with invasive lobular cancer 10 years later. I do hope everything is OK for you on Thursday but I think you've definitely done the right thing is asking for further tests. The worry of waiting for tests/results feels worse, I've found, than actually going through any treatment. xx

I'm quite shocked to hear that your age was against you for not having mammogram... Surely this would apply to all ladies who were not 50 the age of the screening process. I would insist on the test as we are now very aware there is no age limit for BC these days....
Wishing you all the best

Thickening of tissue and pain in right breast

I have had tickening of tissue in my right breast for over 3 weeks. I am having on and off pain in right breast as well. I have no nipple retraction or discharge, no redness, no itching. I have consulted two different GP who have conducted CBE and confirmed that I have no lumps, no swelling in lymph nodes and no asylumtrical breasts. However they couldnt explain the change in size and pain. Owing to my family history, I asked them to refer me for a Breast Screening (Ultrasound - Cant do Mammogram as I'm 34). My appointment is next Thursday and I am really worried to an extend that I cant concentrate at all. Could it be Inflammatory Breast Cancer?
