Citybond would be worth a try - we're only going to Crete for a week but they covered us for 2 weeks in Barbados for £90 last year when I was still having regular checkups and my hubby had active prostate cancer. He is now having chemo and will have had 4 treatments out of 10 when we go to Crete - also has high bp and a history of DVT. The cost was £140 for both of us for 'premium' level of cover and the medical surcharge for him was only £70, which we thought was very reasonable. MIA said they would insure us if we didn't go to Greece or Turkey!
That's strange about Mia as they insured me last year for the States, with bone mets. Maybe it's the fact you are having Xeloda? Or maybe they have reviewed their policies? Worth giving the company that Isobel has mentioned in that case.

Or try Insurancewith 08456 582 999. I am going to the States in July (volcanoes and strikes permitting!) and am covered. It cost £276. A lot of omney, but gives peace of mind.

Hi Fiona
I'm quite disappointed to hear about Mia refusing to insure those of us with mets beyond Europe. You might like to try "Insurance Choice" -- a couple of years ago, they were prepared to insure me for a few weeks in Florida, including my liver & bone mets and being on Xeloda (and Bondronat, and Aromasin) for £270, which included my partner as well. I think some of the others here have tried them since, and not had such a low quote, but do see what they can offer you.

Hi All
I just tried to get travel insurance from mia online, I am on Xeloda tablets. I was told if you have secondaries they will only cover travel in Europe.
Last time I tried to ring round the best price (the only one actually) I was quoted for 10 days in Canada was £3000 about 3 times the cost of the trip!
It does annoy me but they have us over a barrel on this, for me as it is I will just travel uninsured and take my chances. I have cover for everything except the BC.
Fiona
Thanks all for your tips - will start the lengthy process of ringing around !
Hi
I have always used Miaonline, although was only on herceptin at the time, but they are excellent and very nice people. You have to ring them, as though says online, last time i looked still using phones.
Good luck and hope they are accommodating for you
Love

As CharlieRay says the article in last weeks Telegraph did have some other suggestions which may be worth trying - it was about a couple of ladies who've had primary bc and also had worked in the insurance industry. They do listen to each case and make a decision. Maybe worth a shot? I have used Miaonline last year to go to USA. I have bone mets but it had been 8 months since end of chemo although still on hormone tablets and (at the time) IV bisphosphonates - not sure how they react/quote with ongoing chemo. I had a very reasonable quote (I think about £100-200 max for 2 weeks) although they do not cover cancellations, just the medical and travel stuff whilst you are on holiday.

Hi -- yes, please do ring MiaOnline (google them for the number), as they have been pretty consistent in insuring those of us with BC mets at reasonable rates that cover everything, including our BC.
Other insurance firms & brokers might be listed as being good for people with pre-existng health problems, but I've found these (lists on "Which?" website, CancerBacup website, here on BCC, etc.) rather inconsistent, with many on the lists refusing to insure us at all if we have mets or are on "active treatment".
Good luck with this, and hope you have a great holiday in Canada!

The link above is to a Daily Telegraph article about this issue with some suggestions.
Hi,
Try Miaonline (it's recommended by others on here but you do have to ring them). I've got secondaries and am on treatment although not chemo. They will require a note to be made on your medical records to say you are fit to travel and 'endure' the trip. The place and dates of the trip have to be listed.
I've just done it for Mallorca for £57 for 20 days and am covered for everything. Didn't want to risk anything like cancellation in case of a broken leg where they would blame bone mets even if it was nothing to do with that if you see what I mean.
Hope you get cover and have a wonderful holiday !
I was diagnosed with secondaries in lung, liver & bones in August last year plus had to undergo major neck surgery to remove a tumour that had collapsed one of my vertebrae. We had booked flights and accommodation for a trip to Canada for September which we then had to cancel but the airline and accomodation were really great and said I could postpone for 6 months, which we did on the off chance that we could still go.
The trip was rescheduled for May and I will still be on chemo at that time (although I tend to fair very well regarding side effects and still manage to work 4 days a week) . My oncologist is happy for me to go and will schedule my treatment around it, but I'm not prepared to travel so far without insurance.
Does anyone have experience of getting travel insurance with secondaries plus being on chemo?
Any advice really welcome !
