Treatment starting August 2014

Re: Treatment starting August 2014

Hi Bevster and Mogs33, I am similar diagnosis to the both of you small tumour removed and not spread to lymph nodes, her2+ I have had my 3 Fec and tomorrow have my 1st heceptin and tax ( 3 tax and Herceptin for 1 year ) radiotherapy and hormone therapy, fortunatly I have not had too many side effects, fingers crossed it stays that way, I tend to feel quite low and weepy a few days after chemo and do feel very tired, I have been drinking lots of water 2/3 litres each day and feel this has helped, the metallic taste in the mouth is horrid but goes after a week. Believe me it's no way as bad as you think it's going to be and as everyone will tell you just try and take one day at a time, we have a long journey ahead of us but will get there. This forum is amazing and the support you will get will be invaluable. Hugs to all you ladies Cassa

Re: Treatment starting August 2014

Hi Bevster,
It seems our journeys will be very similar apart from I don't need tamoxifen.
My cancer was also removed with no spread but because it was her2+ which is the aggressive protein based cancer I need to have 6 chemo, 3 fec followed by 3 docetaxel then radiotherapy and herceptin for 12 months.
I remember feeling the same as you ... They gave me the good news but because it is surrounded with all daunting and lengthy treatment it doesn't feel like good news. But it is and we are some of the lucky ones.
I had my first chemo 14 days ago (I'm in the July group ) and apart from the first few days Of feeling sick I have been fine and so will you.
The time goes so fast , the staff are amazing and the care I have had has been great.
This forum is also a great place to get info, have a laugh, have a cry and help each other along our journeys.
Keep strong and together we will all get through this ...
Take care
Morag

Re: Treatment starting August 2014

Hi poemsgalore......thankyou.

Can I ask yourself & Yankee - Did either of you opt for the cold cap during your chemotherapy? If so did it help reduce hair loss?

Would appreiate your feedback.

Thanks.

Re: Treatment starting August 2014

Hi Bevster, hi Yankee,

I am another February Valentine, just popped in to offer support to the newest group. As Yankee says, we Vals are even closer than ever as we have been through so much together. Those bonds will never break, most of us are finding our new selves and still supporting one another and laughing together. So wishing you all well for your new experience. Sending hugs.

Re: Treatment starting August 2014

Hi Yankee.

Thank you for your message & kind words. Sorry to hear your friend is going through this too. Hopefully you will be able to provide her with insight & support having been unfortunate to have gone through this yourself too.

How are you now? Hope all is well. I will have a read of the Valentine's forum which I'm sure will help me with my scenario.

I'm pleased to have taken the step to register here & hope, like you say, I can get the support I need whilst also, in time, offering my support to others.

Thank you. Much luv. B xx

Re: Treatment starting August 2014

Dear Bevstar -- I'm from a long ago forum -- the February 2013 Valentines -- but have started to read the up-to-date threads again, as I have a dear friend who is going through it all at the moment!  So glad that you have chosen to come to the right place to get the support you need.  I don't think that I ever would have gotten through the whole process without the help of those I met here!  We are still all in touch, and talk with one another almost every day.  Sorry that you need to be here, but welcome to a very supportive community!  As glum as it all seems at the moment, belive me, you will get through it!  With lots of sisterly love, Yankee

Treatment starting August 2014

Hi - have only registered on here today & hoping to ease some fears re my forthcoming treatment.

I am due to have my 2nd appointment with my Oncologist on Friday after learning last week that, following my lumpectomy, I need to have chemotherapy & herceptin along with radiotherapy & tamoxifen.

Although my lumpectomy results have shown that my cancer has gone (caught very early & hadn't spread), I am fearful of what's yet to come & that my journey remains long & uncertain.

I feel I am on an emotional rollercoaster & thought I would hit euphoria when I learned my cancer had been removed but I didn't.

Would appreciate any support/advice to help me understand things better with regards to my feelings &, of course, the treatment I face.

Thankyou.

B xx
